My specs:
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
2 Gb RAM
Sapphire HD 4650 1GB DDR2
Windows XP SP3

I used to have a GeForce 6800 GT. The game ran ok, but the framerate wasn't great. I installed the HD 4650 and all its video drivers, and now Mass Effect won't even go to the BioWare/EA loading screens. I hit play, it gives the little Mass Effect picture, and it goes to a blank screen, with an hourglass cursor. After a minute or so, it simply gives up. No error message.

I've reinstalled and repatched Mass Effect, but no luck. The config utility recognizes all my hardware. I'm pretty stuck. Any help would be very appreciated, since I LOVE this game!

Did you try "Delete Local Shader Cache Files" in the Repair Tab of the Mass Effect Configuration Utility?

The OP must've decided that this was a chat room type of place, with no one else in it, and left when there was no immediate answer.  He didn't post in any forum on the social site within the next twelve hours . . I think he will prove out to have been a one shot hit & run.
