I just recieved a  -5  disapproval from Morrigan because I offered to help the town of Redcliffe defend against the attacks from the castle.  She doesn't think that we should be wasting our time when we have a much bigger mission.  If this were just some small town of no importance, that might make sense, but in my mind, this is furthering our primary mission.  We have to get to the Arl, who is in the castle where the attacks are coming from.  At the very least, in helping to defend the town, we would get a better idea of what is going on with the castle, and possibly gain some allies in the town, in case we need them.  Since we need the Arl's help, it certainly does not hurt to have helped his people and his brother.  It may not be a factor in game, but it shouldn't be ignored.   -5 is a huge hit to take for something that really  is furthering our own cause. Especially when doing something she likes usually only gets you 1 or 2 points.

I always think that it takes away from the game when you lose faction/alignment/approval arbitrarily, so I thought I'd mention it.  It just doesn't seem like a proper place to lose points.

Remember, Morrigan wanted you to go straight to Denerim and take out Loghain...

Anything else will probably irk her.

There should have been two choices: the "good" choice of defending the village and then assaulting the castle, or the heartless choice of abandoning the village by going directly to the castle. If those were the choices, then Morrigan's disapproval would make sense. However, since it seems you can't enter the castle without saving the village, approval/disapproval makes no sense at all.

Couldn't you just let Redcliffe get wiped out?

Absolutely not, it and the family of the Arl are crucial to the plot line.

Besides, there are parts and weapons in here you get nowhere else. And the story is well worth the playthru.

Trust me on that.......

it's really not a big deal, i actually have morrigan at +100 right now and i did redcliffe and many other quests she disapproves of. If you know you are going to be accepting a quest she won't like just take her out of the party for a moment, and if not, there are plenty of necklaces and pendants to give to her that more than make up for it. data:image/png;base64,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%3D

Keep Morrigan in the party, her sarcastic reactions are priceless. Talking to her with the right choices and plenty of gifts and you'll butter her up no problem.

Do not go into Redclif with Sten or Morrigan in your party you will always loose approval with them Sten being the worst at a whopping -10. If you need to fill that last party member slot take the dog. lol As long as you give him a bone to chew on he couldn't give a rats arse what you do. ;D

I got a net +1 for doing Redcliffe.

Turn down Redcliffe. +4

Take them back up on it. -5

Ransack the Smith's house. +2 (or was it from something else?)

You don't need Redcliffe to get to the Arl, though. There's a reason lots of people hate Redcliffe, it is a very hard fight. She's downright sensible for not wanting to get involved in it, if a bit heartless.

...I pretty much abandoned Redcliffe. It didn't fit my character to try to save it in the first place. Both she and Sten were happy about it, and I was happy I didn't have to go into the battle and save stupid villagers I didn't care about. ^__^

I still saved the Arl though. So it can be done.

Umm..yea, you can abandon Redcliff if you so choose, you get a cutscene..all the villagers die..Boo hoo..everyone cries about it, the end..walk in save the Arl, and everyone is happy.

Heartless.......all of you. The battle was rather easy on normal, hard on the other hand......

But its easy enough to beat on normal.

But if you have Sten there is a way to get like a +15 approval from him during the prep for the battle.

Yeah Morrigan is practical, the village is of no importance to you strategically.

It is by no accident that morrigan is the easiest npc to woo.

Plus I think she has the most gifts you find. Jewelry are spewed all over the game.

Never ever try reasoning with a b-i-t-c-h.

Unless you plan on romancing Morrigan there is really no need to worry about the -5 dissapproval you get in Redcliffe or anywhere else she turns her nose in the air at your decisions. There are lots of gifts in the game and you can keep her ready to fling her spells on your behalf easy enough by giving her a gift in camp to get back the 5 points keeping her more or less neutral for the entire game. Besides as far as I can see Morrigan is a B-i-t-c-h with a capitol B and Leliana is a sexy french maiden...who would you rather? lol my choice was made almost then instant I met both of them :)
