That pretty much sums it up.
"You're HELPING people?! But we wanted allies! Helping them will certainly not further our own ends of gaining these allies! No one helps people they like!"

I saved the village, but I kinda wish I hadn't bothered. At the time it seemed like the easiest way to get to the castle (and it may have been).

Anyway, it's absolutely possible to save Redcliffe and many other folk without earning ire from Morrigan. I did. You probably chose the dialogue choice closest to, "Sure we'll save your village! Got any windows that need washing while we're here?!"

I don't think she's a b-i-t-c-h, a bit callous at times, but she was raised in the wilds and views the world differently. The way she talked about communicating with nature was really moving. I've always been a sucker for fiercely independent girls as well. I have to say I prefer Morrigan any day. She's far more interesting. I agree that she's a bit of a lost cause as far as her humanity goes though.
Being either a b-i-t-c-h or a poor soul having bad childhood are more or less synonyms. However, I fully agree that she's interesting as a character. The same goes for Sten, he's really compelling. One one hand, he's a bit harshly towards hepling the weak as they should fight by themselves but, on the other hand, he appreaciates honour and dislikes cheating or abusing the weak (e.g. Redcliffe: paying for the sword to Kaytlin).

Morrigan isn't necessarily an idiot, keep in mind that she was raised in a very specific way and isn't even entirely human. I just picture her as a child that has to learn many things, and is sometimes disgruntled when being taught something... and just as a child you can get her morale back up with a gift, she seems particularly easy to impress with jewelry so it's not a problem. It's like "But mommy I don't wanna fight, I want to see the ocean, and the mountains, and Loghain's blood and his heart ripped out..." - "Shh Morrigan, we have to help these kind villagers first and you can have heart for dinner later" - "Aww I hate you Mommy... ooh shiny, I love oyu Mommy" ;-)
Good point, nicely put.

You can't tell that I'm helping them to gain allies, equipment, and loot?

She was raised by an ancient abomination and spent her childhood talking to trees! Just how much understanding of human society do you expect from her?

She's actually very transparent, extremely naive, and completely incompetent when it comes to manipulating people.

Well I'm not going to argue about the definition of the B word. She does have a softer side at any rate. I imagine that she would have been a nice girl if raised differently, you know in a normal home, like not raised by a demon possessed lunatic? <_<

Made me laugh.
Oh, I love that conversation! Where Alistair is asking your opinions of other party members.
PC: "You two really don't like either other, do you?"
Alistair: "Well, besides the fact that she's a complete and utter B****,. uh, no. I can't say I do like her."
The delivery was priceless on that. It was bordering on being catty, and the way Alistair emphasised the word ****, it was like he deliberately saying it loud enough for her to hear.
But yes, Morrigans disapproval in Redcliffe was irritating to say the least. I'm trying to progress, to obtain the army needed to follow her suggestion of confronting Loghain directly and she disapproves. Go figure. Just leave her out of redcliffe until the village battle, and you'll be fine.
Sten on the other hand, you can actually gain approval if you have decent coersion and cunning. In the conversation with Teagan, when he objects, you get the option of persuiding him that this is the best chance of getting to see the arl, and you get +2 approval from him. And you can gain alot more approval in redcliffe by going around and recruiting/intimidating Dwyn, Berwick, and Lloyd to fight in defense of the village.
But Morrigan? Leave her back in camp to cook your dinner and fetch your beers.

Can you bring in other group members just for the choice and bring Morrigan back after to do the quest and not suffer the penalty?
Yes. IIRC, you can switch characters at will in Redcliffe. Even if you can't, as long as you don't go anywhere but camp, you can save the village.

Morrigan: Chaotic Stupid? Bad Writing?
http://social.biowar...47/index/325541
I started this thread when I was irritated with Morrigan for similar reasons. There's a lot of material from both sides (Morrigan-is-a-Stupid-B**** vs. Morrigan Fanboys), and a healthy amount of amusing flames.
Edit: What? No love for hyperlinks via HTML tags? This forum sucks! I'll be damned if I use your link-insertion button! :-P
