I started making my evil char which i decided to be a mage with violent as the voice and wanna make him as a Blood Mage. Last time i tried a Pure Caster it ended in disaster. Can someone give me some ideas for Spells? I assume I don't need to ask for attributes as i think most just pump nothing but Magic for all 23 levels of Origins.

fire to fireball

ice to cone of cold

lightning to shock

V walking bomb

heal

get force field, crushing prison is neat, but meh if your a pure mage you will have so much dps it doesn't matter.

blood mage spells

arcane warrior 1 point so you can use plate pieces since mage cloth gear is terrible.

glyph line to repulsion is nice as well.

general tactic

V walking Bomb one, gather them up, Cone of Cold back away, Fire Blast, Shock, BOOM. Collect Loot. If your tank is getting to close Force Field him, or if you don't want to move forcefield yourself before the boom.

would the vulnerability hex add anything? Is it worth casting V hex or why not just 1 more cast of damage in other words?

Vulnerability Hex  (and Affliction Hex) are great supplemental spells to learn  IF you plan on building up  a DPS mage.  Those spells make your Fireball,  Cone of Cold, Shock etc. do more damage.

As to the advice given above,  I recommend continuing the cold line to Blizzard, And the electricity line to Tempest.  Storm of the Century is Amazing and you need those two spells for it.  Also,  I  recommend the Mana Alteration line  for Spell Might and Mana Clash.

I max out the cold, fire and glyph line. I only get the first in the electric line, since so few baddies, even Bosses, are able to resist it. I also max out the hex line. You can't 'see' the damage done by these, but they are powerful. The V bombs are also good. The firey weapons are more powerful than the cold weapons spell. If you have 2 mages in your team and have one cast fiery weapons, the other cold, then you'll have a double whammy. Mana Clash will kill mages outright, but not really needed until endgame, and you don't really need it then if you Force Field and fireball them, and use Arcane Shield. You can cast Force Field on the enemy, including some Bosses, to neutralise them. Sleep and Horror are absolutely essential.

The Mage is the most powerful member of your team. Don't forget the heal. That's the first spell I start off with. Then I go for Cone of Cold and the stuns. If they can't fight back, they can't dish out damage. You're seemingly weak at first, but your power grows over time. All points into Magic and use a Bard with Song of Courage to boost those stats. The first 2 Blood Magic spells are very useful. They're basically a very powerful AOE spell encompassing a large area, very useful when being swamped by Baddies. They're both 'stunned' and suffer damage at the same time, even better than Crushing Prison.

All the fire line

Cold to cone of cold

Healing to regeneration

All the glyphs

Hexes up to misdirection

Mindblast and forcefield

Rock armor

Blood Mage talents to at least blood wound

Arcane warrior to at least shimmering shield (just to provide easy resistances & protection and extra gear choices, don't bother using a sword with combat magic)

That's all you need really, can't go wrong with them. Some people would insist mana clash should be on that list, although it's boringly imbalanced and the three prerequisites are very mediocre and you don't really need it that much.

If you have the time/inclination this is a pretty decent guide on all the spells.

Personally I'm a fan of Virulent Walking Bomb in combination with some crowd control like Paralysis Explosion or Mass Paralysis, also Vulnerability Hex and Affliction Hex stack to great effect, especially when used with Spell Combinations like Entropic Death, Nightmare and Storm of the Century.

To be honest you only need three spells to crush almost the entire game. Blood Wound, Cone of Cold and Mana Clash. Or five spells and take Glyph of Replusion and Glyph of Paralysis for the Paralysis Explosion Combo. Once that combo is triggered everyone in it is as good as dead. Just send in your melee team to chop some heads.
