I wish this was slightly more powerful...like more dex or a cunning bonus. The pieces are scattered all over, and it takes more patience to get all the pieces compared to most other armour sets...It's not too bad to put on Leliana when she is spec'd as an archer, but I just wish it was more useful so it would be more gratifying when you get all the pieces, especially because I think it looks cool.

If you're playing on PC you could give the Winter Forge Mod a try. I built a pretty good set of custom armour that used it's appearance.

Yep, the trickiest set to assemble, imo, and it just cries out to be *the* armor for an arcane warrior - ancient elven armor for an ancient elven specialization. I find the boots and gloves are decent enough mid-game pieces for warrior #2 in my party, if I have one, but the set is very mediocore.

It would just make sense that this was made to be a killer set, but alas.

Thanks for the tip Jayce, I'm playing on a PS3, might cross over to PC at some point, once I can get XP to work on my iMac...currently having a driver issue (keyboard or mouse won't work so I can't install the Mac drivers....ugh!)

You might be interested in this: http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1134

It uses a different helm, sadly, but I tend to use the no helmet mod anyway.

This armor is really great in the last showdown for a mage or a rogue. It has a very high spirit damage resistance, and when you couple it with Lifegiver and another good ring, your character is almost completely immune to the AD's blue breath. Wearing that armor you only need to watch out for his minions during the finale. It made the last battle into a cake walk.

It's decent for that, granted, but Sandal shows up in Fort Drakon with 3 greater spirit balms for sale - just the ticket for me. And there is the helm from the darkspawn general.

Look at the following set:

Weapon: Spellweaver
Shield: Fade Wall
Head: Ancient Elven Helm
Hands: Ancient Elven Gloves
Body: Ancient Elven Armor
Feet: Ancient Elven Boots
Belt: Andruil's Blessing
Amulet: The Spellward
Ring 1: Key to the City
Ring 2: Ring of Study

With Rock Armor and Shimmering Shield active, the Armor tops out at 42.45 Armor (requires 49 Spellpower). The Legion of the Dead armor (which seems to be the absolute best) has 31.89 Armor. In exchange, you only have 80.83% Fatigue. You also get 48% Spell Resistance without using any Runes.

If you use the right Sustainables, the set actually becomes pretty solid. Hell, if you throw in Arcane Shield, a Level 18 Mage (74 Spellpower) gets a grand total of 68.4 Defense without touching their Dexterity stat.

Well, any armor with the right accessories and Shimmering Shield is going to be good.Posted Image

But there is nothing impressive about the set itself and by the time you complete it you also have drake scales for a much better set up.

I think the ancient elven armor set is the nicest looking in the game and I almost always use it for my elven archers. I do agree that some of the stats could be better considering you don't get the whole set until about halfway through the game.

Yep, I love that helmet.  But the armor works great for Wynne if you make her an Arcane Warrior or for Leliana.

Well, I didn't actually say it was the best armor for an Arcane Warrior. My post was simply intended to show that an Arcane Warrior can get some decent use out of it, despite it's low stats. If that's what they can do with a mediocre armor like the Ancient Elven Armor set, then they can do even better with just about any other set.

Oh, and the Drakeskin armors aren't any good. Only the Dragon armor is worth it.

This is basically how I've been using it up to now, but I'm working on an Arcane Warrior this playthrough, so I may switch things up a bit.

That certainly screams Elf Arcane Warrior, I wish you could be a Dahlish mage at times like this.

I was actually creating the set specifically for an Arcane Warrior. I randomly got the idea that it might be so mediocre because it was meant to be used by an Arcane Warrior. I crunched the numbers, and posted the results.

Have they changed the textures on this recently? On every previous playthrough for me this set was a mixture of dull grey and verdigris green. Now it's a mixture of green and bronze. The Helm in particular looks strikingly different.

DOH! Nevermind. I completely forgot I installed Tipifyer's tint mod along with the boot hotfix!
