The Mass Effect 2 Demo is now available for download. It weighs in at just under 2GB and is available in 5 languages on both the Xbox 360 and PC. For more details and the "Story So Far" video check out the Mass Effect 2 website.

The game team has provided answers to some of the more common questions including how to transfer your demo saves to the full game. I've included those below:

Xbox 360:
Q: How big is the Mass Effect 2 Demo?
A: The Mass Effect 2 Demo is approximately 2 GB in size.

Q: How do you save your progress in the Mass Effect 2 Demo?
A: Access the game’s pause menu by pressing the [Start] button and select the [Save] option.

Q: How can I continue the game I started in the Mass Effect 2 Demo in the full version of Mass Effect 2?
A: If you purchase a copy of Mass Effect 2 after playing the Mass Effect 2 Demo you can continue your progress from the demo by selecting [Resume] the first time you play the full version of the game.

If the first time you start the retail version of Mass Effect 2 you start a new game (instead of continuing your progress from the demo), you will be unable to import your demo save unless you delete all your saves on the full game.

PC:

  • DirectX 9.0c October 2006
Recommended
  • Windows XP, Vista, or 7
  • 2.6+ GHz Intel or 2.4+ GHz AMD
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 2.5 GB minimum file space
  • ATI X1800 XL series, NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX, or better recommended
  • 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers.
  • DirectX 9.0c October 2006
Q: How do you save your progress in the Mass Effect 2 Demo?
A: Access the game’s pause menu by pressing the [Esc] key and select the [Save] option.

Q: How can I continue the game I started in the Mass Effect 2 Demo in the full version of Mass Effect 2?
A:
  • Locate your Mass Effect 2 Demo career folder in the save file directory (default is \My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2 Demo\)
  • Copy the career folder to the save file directory for the full version of Mass Effect 2 (default is \My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\)
  • Within the career folder you just copied to the full version of Mass Effect 2, delete the "autosave.pcsave" and "chaptersave.pcsave" files (if these files do not exist, just proceed to the next step.)
  • In the same career folder as the previous step, rename "demosave.pcsave" to "autosave.pcsave"
  • Start the full version of Mass Effect 2 and select [Resume] from the main menu.
  • These directions are also available in the readme file that is included with the Mass Effect 2 Demo.

Demo has the intro level and the Subject Zero mission. I don't believe ME1 character import is in the demo.

And yes Overlord is coming tomorrow.

Thanks and reminds me of a NOVA episode. By the way, the download link isn't in Quicktime format (for me anyway), it shows up as a flv or flash movie. Is that just me or was there a mess up?

You're right, the link was wrong, just fixed it.
