The Mass Effect 2 demo is here for those who wanted a peek into the game. We are also having a huge sale where you can get ME2 for $39.95 Xbox and $31.95 PC. Every sale earns me a Kit Kat bar so please tell your friends ;)

Q:

If the first time you start the retail

your progress from the demo), you will be unable to import your demo
save unless you delete all your saves on the full game.

There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding here of the product lifecycle of RPG games in general, and Mass Effect specifically. Mass Effect had a really long tail, that is, it continued selling (albeit in reduced numbers) for a long, long time after release. Anything Bioware can do to enhance post-release support will only encourage more people to keep buying.

The plan for Mass Effect 2 has always been to continue development on the game right up until Mass Effect 3 is released. They planned for DLC to be released many months after the game.

Releasing the demo now makes perfect sense to me. Pre-release demos are almost always built on pre-release quality code, which does not make the game look good. Giving the game a little time to bake so they could shake out the worst of the unforseen issues means that the demo is going to be very solid.

With this demo, the game is being marketed to people who never played Mass Effect 1. A brief summary video kicks off the demo, so people get the idea that you don't have to have played the first game to enjoy the second one.

I think it's a great demo. It has a lot of variety, includes the full character creator, and lets you continue the game from the end of the tutorial level. Really well put together.

You just nailed it 100% !
