The Mass Effect 2 demo is here for those who wanted a peek into the game. We are also having a huge sale where you can get ME2 for $39.95 Xbox and $31.95 PC. Every sale earns me a Kit Kat bar so please tell your friends ;)

Xbox 360:
Q: How big is the Mass Effect 2 Demo?
A: The Mass
Effect 2 Demo is approximately 2 GB in size.

Q: How do you save
your progress in the Mass Effect 2 Demo?
A: Access the game’s pause
menu by pressing the [Start] button and select the [Save] option.

Q:
How can I continue the game I started in the Mass Effect 2 Demo in the
full version of Mass Effect 2?
A: If you purchase a copy of Mass
Effect 2 after playing the Mass Effect 2 Demo you can continue your
progress from the demo by selecting [Resume] the first time you play the
full version of the game.

If the first time you start the retail
version of Mass Effect 2 you start a new game (instead of continuing
your progress from the demo), you will be unable to import your demo
save unless you delete all your saves on the full game.

Hehe, smart demo design, by letting them continue their demo story if they buy the full version :)

So - like, why now? Didn't want ME 1 and especially RPG fans to experience the - ahem - changes before purchasing when the game was new, or are the sales numbers behind estimates and the demo is an attempt to interest more players?

Why is this demo coming out now? I have no problem with it, but the game came out five months ago. Isn't it a little late for a demo?

Ok, I'll just say what I'm sure a lot of fellow consumers are thinking... who the heck makes these decisions at Bioware?

The game has been out for half a year and this is what we have:

1) A redesigned site -- practically worthless this far after launch.
2) A demo -- practically worthless after launch.
3) A mission pack that takes roughly an hour to complete -- Firewalker
4) Kasumi mission -- while interesting and highly polished, also very short.
5) Zaeed mission -- like Kasumi, interesting but short.
6) A couple of relatively worthless weapon and character skin add-ons that honestly should have been included in original game.
7) Mass Effect t-shirts in the Bioware store -- I'd be VERY surprised if the sales here are greater than the cost of production.

I mean, really? Look, I'll give credit where it's due... Kasumi was fun and one of my favorite missions. But whatever Bioware/EA executive is making these decisions needs to be fired. Anyone who can think objectively can see what a poor business model this is. As a matter of fact, the majority of people I know IRL who own this game don't even know these add-ons have been occurring.

Ok fanboys and girls, flame away. I refuse to be a sheep.

^ you know they arent allowed to touch the game (that means add any new content) 12 weeks (or something like that) before the game launches. So most of the small DLC was already made, but they couldnt add it to the disc. Also, Im still replaying Mass Effect 2 (and ME1) so the fact that new conternt is still being released just makes each new playthrough a bit more interesting and diverse.

I'm almost wanting to download it just to get a feel for it before my copy comes in the mail.

Also I know that it is a while after the release, but a demo is always good. Especially a PC demo, it helps you figure out how well your system can handle the game and since you can't sell PC versions the way you can with console versions that makes PC demos even more worthwhile.

I'm currently downloading the demo just for the hell of it even though I already own the game! I have the game on my xbox so it would be interesting to see how it plays on my computer.

Hey I don't mind. I think it takes advantage of people saying it's great, plus all of the reviews so that if someone is wavering over whether to buy the game or not, they can play the demo and finally decide.

I downloaded the demo yoday and started playing. I noticed the sensitivity was WAY too high so I quit and changed it in the file in the config folder. Since then I haven't been able to play. Everytime I press Play on the initial pop-up screen it tries to load and does nothing. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Once I get home I think I'll try to play the demo on my laptop, see if it can play the game. That is if I'm not too busy playing Overlord, assuming it's released within the next seven hours.

Didn't sell as many copies as expected, ay?

Still haven't outsold the vastly superior ME1. ay?

Youll never get them to admit it, but that was exactly my thoughts on the issue.

Granted it might be just my own experiences, but I have NEVER in all my years of gaming seen or heard about such an idiotic thing as releasing a demo months upon months after the games release.

I can only guess its an attempt to get a little more interest in the game going because for a mass market attempt to appeal to the Gears of War and Modern Warfare crowd, theyve shown a distinct lack of interest.

Bioware really do look like sellouts these days.

Both Sins and Demigod from Stardock had their demo released months after the game came out... and personally I approve of a demo being released since buying games ( at least in Australia ) is an investment. you don't buy a car without test driving it or buy a house without inspecting it so why people are ok to trust 20 + reviews saying "the game is awesome" without trying it themselves is beyond me. then again I'm unique so =p

I'm trying to understand why this demo was launched when the full version is already out.
