Anyways, this is only for Live Gold members. What's the deal with that? Nowadays demos and trailers are also some sort of premium content

I dunno what the demo does but the full game on PC only requires a one time activation. some people do experience a bug in the game after installing DLCs which asks them to go online and authenticate every time they save an exit back to the desktop but that's rare iirc ( at least looking at the tech forum, not sure if the new patch fixes it or if there's a workaround etc since i don't keep up with it)

Both Sins and Demigod from Stardock had their demo released months after the game came out... and personally I approve of a demo being released since buying games ( at least in Australia ) is an investment. you don't buy a car without test driving it or buy a house without inspecting it so why people are ok to trust 20 + reviews saying "the game is awesome" without trying it themselves is beyond me. then again I'm unique so =p
You said it yourself my friend over at Australia its an invesment...over here not so much

it really depends on who you talk to imo just cause you can afford to throw around $50 to $60 US / $80 to $120 Aus or w/e equal currency you're from doesn't mean others can.

Are you sure it's not just the usual one week later for silver membership, like it is for every other demo? Or at least it was when I was a silver subscriber.kalle90 wrote...
Well on Playstation 1 I always played demos after the game was released. And I bought many of them as full games.

I am glad i did, but having a demo would have made the decision to buy a whole lot easier.

You HAVE to play Mass Effect 1 first, you wont regret it. I promise, for twenty dollars (which comes with bring down the sky as well) is a must have, especially if you are buying Mass Effect 2 as well.
I haven't even known about Mass Effect at all until a few monthes ago, and I'm still playing Mass Effect Non-Stop.
EDIT:Oh yeah, there is no point in skipping Mass Effect 1. Plus, it feels better...

Even without playing the first, you can enjoy the second. However, as said above, Mass Effect 1 is a must have, I'm almost sure that you would not be dissapointed if you play the first.

It probably is but I'm just wondering about this policy. A demo coming this late and still offered only to Gold members for now. If Bioware is looking for one last sales boost that doesn't make much sense. Microsoft is probably the one calling the shots though
And to the last guy's question: This is one series where playing the first game first is actually a great choice. Most of the backstory is explained in it and you can continue your ME1 save in ME2. The games are very different though so liking ME2 doesn't mean you like ME1 and vice versa

The plan for Mass Effect 2 has always been to continue development on the game right up until Mass Effect 3 is released. They planned for DLC to be released many months after the game.
Releasing the demo now makes perfect sense to me. Pre-release demos are almost always built on pre-release quality code, which does not make the game look good. Giving the game a little time to bake so they could shake out the worst of the unforseen issues means that the demo is going to be very solid.
With this demo, the game is being marketed to people who never played Mass Effect 1. A brief summary video kicks off the demo, so people get the idea that you don't have to have played the first game to enjoy the second one.
I think it's a great demo. It has a lot of variety, includes the full character creator, and lets you continue the game from the end of the tutorial level. Really well put together.

I think it doesn't have to do with it. Konami released a MGS4 demo sometime after launch, almost 1 year later I think, and the game sold aprox. 4 million copies. It's more to get "unhyped" players.Dinkamus_Littlelog wrote...

Didn't sell as many copies as expected, ay?
Youll never get them to admit it, but that was exactly my thoughts on the issue.
Granted it might be just my own experiences, but I have NEVER in all my years of gaming seen or heard about such an idiotic thing as releasing a demo months upon months after the games release.
I can only guess its an attempt to get a little more interest in the game going because for a mass market attempt to appeal to the Gears of War and Modern Warfare crowd, theyve shown a distinct lack of interest.
Bioware really do look like sellouts these days.

This demo is also nice for those who weren't sure it could run well on their PC, those who cannot afford launch day prices and etc. So why not get some free publicity and release a demo during E3? I do not see any downside in doing so!

The Mass Effect 2 demo is here for those who wanted a peek into the game.
PC:
Q: What are the minimum / recommended
system requirements to run the Mass Effect 2 Demo?
A: The Mass Effect 2 Demo has the same system requirements as the full version of
the game.
Minimum:
- Windows XP, Vista, 7
- 2.4 GHz
Intel or 2.0 GHz AMD- 1 GB RAM (XP), 2 GB RAM (Vista)
- 2.5 GB minimum file space
RIGHT HERE:
Those are the badly screwed up requirements that EA used for ME-1, with the X1600 and X1300 swapped around (The X1300 XT is the same exact graphics card as the X1600 Pro!)NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or better (7300, 7600 GS, and 8500 are below minimum system requirements) ATI X1300 XT or better (X1300, X1300 Pro, X1600 Pro and HD2400 are below minimum
system requirements)Shader Model 3.0 required 100%
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers.DirectX 9.0c October 2006
The Recommended and Vista suggestions were equally screwed up.

There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding here of the product lifecycle of RPG games in general, and Mass Effect specifically. Mass Effect had a really long tail, that is, it continued selling (albeit in reduced numbers) for a long, long time after release. Anything Bioware can do to enhance post-release support will only encourage more people to keep buying.

Not a bad idea! I'm a total fan of getting games after release date. They're cheaper that way, lmao. Plus yo go in knowing how the game will feel, for the most part.

^ you know they arent allowed to touch the game (that means add any new content) 12 weeks (or something like that) before the game launches. So most of the small DLC was already made, but they couldnt add it to the disc. Also, Im still replaying Mass Effect 2 (and ME1) so the fact that new conternt is still being released just makes each new playthrough a bit more interesting and diverse.
good god i couldnt even imaginge replaying ME1 and 2 angain bioware has too much of my soul allready.
I spent 300+ hours totall on DA:O and over 200+ hours on ME1 alone.
BUt on the topic of this demo is there one available for ME1?? cuz if say someone buys ME! cuz of the ME2 demo they might **** their pants at how diffrent they are.

Well since they dropped the price on ME2 to 39.99 I would say get it along with the Platinum Hits version of ME1 (19.99). Yes you can play ME2 on its own but playing ME1 first and bringing your Shepard into ME2 gives a more satisfying gaming experience.
