I'm not sure what to make of SWTOR. I'm looking forward to story based mmo but seeing that all the classes being sorted into the typical "tank" healer" dps" stereotypes is off-putting. this is why I quit Wow, because of simple streamlined tactics like those. I really hope it's not a trinity based game, that would ruin it for me.
Prepare to be disappointed then.

40minutes in begins the segment on TOR; 53:00 shows a demo of a group battle from a Consular's perspective. All she does is healbot.

damn you are right, it really looks that way. i hate the "stand there and smash your 2-3 buttons" approche..i hope it will work differently when the game is done.

I was dead wrong.
Everything I've seen looks like trash. Like the same old junk that gets pumped out in every generic MMORPG to date. I am on the verge of vowing to never ever again play a Star Wars games that does not have Lightsabers. Is it too much to ask that a Star Wars game has Lightsabers in it? Please? If I wanted to beat people with a glowing baton I'd get a wooden pole and paint it with glow-in-the-dark neon.
How many months did people bug the devs on the SWTOR forums to make the lightsabers actually cut things? How many hundreds and hundreds of people offered mechanic ideas, suggestions, down-on-my-knees begging pleads?
And while I realize that footage was still beta, the animation was atrocious. I thought they were playing a KOTOR mod, it looked so similar. Have you all made no advances since that game? None? I saw visuals and model animations in other new games that made my eyes bleed from the sheer glory of it. And this is the best you can offer after how many years of development?
Seriously BioWare, you dropped the ball. I am so so very disappointed.

A few things I am excited for or interested in are Zelda, Golden Eye, and Fable 3. Everything I hear about Fable 3 I like, except I have to assume it's all a lie till release date, I would like Lionhead to go back to it's RTS roots though.
Zelda looks fun, I like the compromise between Cell-shaded and Grainy graphics. I want to see a Majora's Mask remake.
GoldenEye im excited for, if I can ever get my Wii online working I should have lots of fun, provided activision doesn't botch it up.

Goldeneye was good when it came out but the game has not aged well. Honestly though I always thought Goldeneye was a bit overrated, even when it first got released. I just figured the n64 fanboys went crazy over it since 90 percent of the games for the n64 were crap. If the Goldeneye remake is going to be good, it has to have improved gameplay.
Goldeneye is so highly praised because it was the first shooter to hit a console and not suck. The original Halo advanced the console-side of the genre dramatically as well, leading us to the point we are now... with the majority of shooters being played on consoles.

That is a pretty bold claim, let me think about that for a second..
hmmm...lets see Turok the Dinosaur Hunter was pretty crappy from what I remember. It had way too much fog and annoying respawning enemies so scratch that one.
Doom 64 was alright but derivative.
Hell, you may be right. Still I never found Goldeneye to be that great. Like almost every n64 game, the graphics were too choppy and blurry to the point where it became an obstacle in the split screen mode.
It certainly was an evolution for console FPS games but I don't think it has held up well compared to modern day FPS games. The Goldeneye remake will have to have drastically improved gameplay to be good I think.

IMO Goldeneye was the only console shooter that got the controls right. Since then I've played them on PC and never looked back. Can't stand the double joystick approach. It's limiting.
Eh? The only way to play Goldeneye and not suck was to use those C-buttons as a pseudo-2nd analog stick. I used to play Goldeneye in tournaments years ago... The 2nd analog stick was much welcomed. I started on PC for shooters back with Dark Forces and Duke Nukem 3D. To be honest, PC shooters haven't changed much. They just got more graphically intense.

WASD is a much more manageable approach to directional movement, and the mouse is a better piece of equipment for aiming than joystick. Goldeneye had good control because the C-buttons functioned just like WASD.
I disagree with WASD. A Joystick or a Gamepad allows for more fluid and quicker movement while the mouse allows for more fluid and quicker aiming.
Because of this aiming is gimped on an N64 as it has no replacement for the Mouse that makes any sense in combination.

I must step in to voice my "Hahaha" at the fantastically epic "Eat your hat" moment for Mr. Newell. Should teach everyone never to make "never" comments. Except me, lol
But he was right.
And the "aspect" he was commenting on about the Playstation 3 being more of an open console was also right, chances are Sony had to bend over backwords to let Valve use steam.

That said, huge win for Sony to get Portal 2 on the PS3, would have been a gaping hole in the library without it. Oh, and ****ING TWISTED METAL. OH MY GOD.
Nintendo still wins though, easily, new hardware that I'm going to pre-order, four new games that I am all but certain I will purchase (Zelda, Kirby, Goldeneye, DK). And overall just amazing feelings about the show once it was done. Nintendo pulls the upset and wins e3 this year (Making it go: '08 - MS, '09 - Sony, and '10 - Nintendo. So the three companies are competing and making us, the consumers, the true winners)

He said the PS3 version would be superior because he was getting paid a lot of money to do so. The game will come out and the difference between platforms will be negligible.
Do you have a source for this assessment? Or just your gur feeling on a game you have never seen and ignoring the fact that he highlighted it is because of Steamworks that he considers the ps3 version superior?

Yes great the game will be in all platforms now. And wow Gaffe sure knows how to lie!

I am off to watch Nintendo now. I am not interested in the Wii (I want nice graphics) and I don't game portable much but hoping to see some good stuff regardless! And +100 for stating the truth: consumers are the winners of console wars!

Wanting "nice graphics" rather than "great games" is rather silly in my personal opinion. I put more hours into Super Smash Bros. Brawl than any game in my Xbox or PC library. (Except maybe Civ 4, but that has average graphics as well). Not to mention the hours I STILL get out of Super Mario Bros. 3 despite it's 8-bit graphics.
And I will be honest and say that my opinion on the Portal bit at the conference is a gut feeling, but honestly, I don't see it being much of a difference. The important thing here is that it's no longer an Xbox exclusive, which is as big a loss of MS as FFXIII was to Sony at the time. The important thing is that more people will get to play what is sure to be an excellent game now.
One more thing about Valve though, where the hell is Half Life 2 Ep. 3?
