So is that it for E3 or is there still more on the way?

One more day to go (Thursday). I wouldn't expect any more reveals, just more details. I did notice on Gamespot (I think) stuff about Wiedzmin 2 (Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!), New Vegas and Hunted - The three games I care about this year.

More press conferences?

Edit: I was hoping we would see one done by Square Enix.

Not sure if they're press conferences or what.

Square Enix seem to have done one, oddly, because the Virtual Booth (Here) shows all reveals being yesterday. Of course, I could be wrong.

Just got around to seeing G4's Feedback and it looks like they're caught up in Sony's hype machine as well. I'm not sure why this annoys me so much, but when I hear them spouting the same nonsense about Kinect costing $150 and Move only costing $50, I just have to turn the TV off, especially when they complain at length about the casual games being shown for Kinect and don't recognize that Sony really didn't show off much more than MS did. I think the Move and Sony in general probably had a bit stronger showing than MS this year, but if you can't even depend upon Feedback to report honestly on the facts, I don't know where you can go.

Well my opinion on E3.

Nintendo died for me. They showed off their crappy gimmicks as usual and I didn't see all of the conference so I only saw one game. Epic Mickey. Another horrific attempt to make disney look badass. Another game that will hopefully be forgotten.

PS3 had some cool games showing. Portal 2 is looking noice along with Asassin's Creed Brotherhood. The new Metal Gear however, won't be the same without Snake.

Xbox 360 is looking good. Don't care about the gimmicky slim/natal bollocks, the games are the important bit. And my my. Halo: Reach is shooting for a potential Game of the Year. I've been following its progress for a while and now it is really out doing its self. Have to love it.

Gears, 4 player co-op could be cool, though knowing gears, it'll probably be exactly the same to its precursors.

COD: BO (lol) from what i'm seeing is same old Treyarch crap. I'm not going for it at all.

I think that Nintendo had less gimmicks than anyone else. MS had Kinect and all of the casual games for that, Sony spent half the conference talking about 3D and the other half showing off mostly casual and non-core related experiences for Move, the only one that really appealed to its core audience was Nintendo.

Yeah, they revealed the 3DS, which could be looked at as a gimmick, though if it is a gimmick it's one of the better ones this year, but they also talked about the games coming out for it just as much as the technology. We also got Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Goldeneye, Kirby, Epic Mickey, more classic franchises than I could have hoped for that seem to be squarely focused on satisfying what core gamers expect from Nintendo.

For me, the only thing really worth while in the whole conference was the new Zelda. That game I intend to play. The rest are big ifs.

As for the new controllers and game play methods, well they look neat. But they are progress, not end products in themselves. It will only be after we see the games that are played with them that they can be said to be successes or failures.

And it looks like in that sense they are shaping to be failures, though perhaps failures in the lucrative, Nintendo sense of the word. I'm not sure the Wii's controls have enriched any game I've played since Wii Sports and RE4, for the most part the games that are good on the Wii would have been just as good with the classic controller. However, the gimmick is what brings the kids and the parents into gaming, so even if these technologies are something none of us ever buy, they'll still have a major impact on the success of the platform they are on.

I really enjoyed Twilight Princess with the Wiimote controls. I felt it was responsive and intuitive. According to all the demo crowd, this new Zelda will be that much better with the controls. I am very hopeful for this one, and quite honestly, Nintendo has proved me wrong from initially being a nay-sayer when the Wiimote was first introduced.

I didn't hate the wiimote for TP, but I think that was largely because a simple flick would suffice for slashes. Full swings might be fine for a demo, but it will be interesting to see how tolerable they are over the source of a 40-hour game.

Only interesting thing for Nintendo was Zelda...which sure won´t be like the original. Though there is lot of potenial.

Ac2 was already not so good...can´t wait for acb...more of the same..

Halo Reach...space combat? Great..anything else..been there before in the same game with the same lore. thanks.

gears same over again. screw co-op. fans have wanted this for a long time. lazy bastards.

The main reason I buy games is so I can play co-op with my friends. I mostly find it quite boring to play video games alone. For me games that improve upon co-op, both online and off, are the one I primarily want to look at. This is why Lost Planet 2 is crap IMO. They messed up co-op bad.

Ubisoft is dead to me. Principles guide my spending more than enjoyment. I won't buy something if I don't think I'll like it, but I absolutely will not buy something if I don't agree with the seller's philosophies on selling, even if I think I'd love it.

Sales numbers are not the same as profitability

In fact i'm pretty sure the highest selling PS3 game, Metal Gear Solid 4, was only about quarter of the sales of Halo 3 and even less when you  compare wii titles.

This is irrelevant when you are talking about profitability, that is not directly related to sales. Little Big Planet, for example, is an incredibly profitable game regardless of having "only" 3m sales. There were only 28 salaries to pay and the marketing was not overly expensive.

This is not a fact, it's a preference and a generalization.

Sony allowing third party what? Make clear comments please. Gabe Newell ate his words on that stage, on what is being referred to as an apology to sony. I don't understand why you are so intent in trying to twist this: the man himself says Sony proved to him they are the most open platform, when he had said they were not.

I garentee you the reason for this is due to Microsofts attitude. If there is one thing we have learned, it's that Valve are great, and even though the Playstation 3 may be more difficult to get  a quility closer to the pc or Xbox360, he should probably get a round of applause for going on stage and trying.

Maybe if you read my entire posts instead of trying to argue about what he meant, intended and did you would see I think he deserves kudos for doing this the way he did.

I don't care if he was right or not. What happened was funny, and if you don't see it then that's your concern not mine.

Yeah, I can see what you're saying. My example of Lost Planet 2 is particularly on par with your point. Some of the major complaints in the many reviews I read were the lack of improvements in the things identified in the first that sucked. Basically, Capcom basically ignored them and rehashed those issues.

The same could be said of Gears 3. If it's just a "new" version of 2 without any signficant improvements, changes, or other advancements, that would definitely not be a worthwhile purchase. That's the same problem people have with MW2. And I'd agree with them. The game's certainly not bad but it's also hard to look at it and see how it's necessarily BETTER than its predecessor. More of the same old crap can be very bad.

Name one gimmick that Nintendo showed off, especially compared to the bullcrap with Microsoft trying to shill their stupid full-body motion thing and Sony's blatant Wii rip-off.

I can't be bothered qouting all this in a big chop up so I will answer factually in a number list.

1. The point was, they would have probaly made more on the xbox360 and
wii.

2. Littlebigplanet would most cetantly have made more money
on the wii.

3. Deadspace, Bioshock, Oblivion, Fallout 3 e.t.c...
all inferior and/or in need of patching. I beleive in the case of
Command and Conquere, it had to be delayed.

4. No, it's a fact.

5.
Steam is third party. Gabe hasn't eaten anything beyond deciding to
develope for it,  he was  talking about a completly diffrent aspect.

6.
it was funny because no one expected it, not because he decided to do
it. It's a typical Valve superiority in action. They have essentially helped bring a  pc
mentality to consoles by having steam on it.

You do not have the data to back up this assumption. You are also forgetting that LBP wouldn't be possible on the Wii

This is it. they are selling the same stuff over and over again. They do this since years. However in the last 10 years we do have seen innovation but it was only "hey i have more choices during conversations (with zero to no impact) for rpgs..new tools for fps, a bit more combos for action/adventure games"

Sure the game isn´t bad...MW was not bad..MW2 was not bad...but it´s the same. It´s actualy naturaly that game devs now (they are SO slow) move over to consoles and give them a bit of attantion. They have sated the pc market...every genre is there, dozens of games. Now they go for the consoles. There is a potential market of not pc gamers and even better, not persistent gamers.

Sure there are gamers who will say "what.....ps3 sucks i want my ps2 games back" etc. but they are even more a minority compared to the pc gamers. But even a "non believer" (to be nice...) would see the difference between the sales of ps2 and ps3 or xbox, it doesn´t matter really. New people...all new people you can sell games too..who cares if it´s a remake or the same old thing. It will sale. They don´t know better.^^

The PC game market is sated. And they are even dumbing it more down to get "non" gamers into genres that were once the reason why this wannabe devs even had a job. Hearing one of these wannabe programmers talk about the game and the engine makes me usualy sick about my job as a software developer. But then i remind myself that these people infront the camera don´t(!) make your game. It´s the little person, who gets ****y paid for what he works that makes your game.

Anyway, it´s a whole new market full off  people with no clue...it will get sated one day too. And what then? The companies...from my "little" (lol) view can´t even handel a budged for a game. They are constantly making loses. The only reason these companies aren´t going to hell (and there are only the big ones left) is because of the wallstreet and idiots buying their half assets games.

There are no interesting titles for the pc. because we had them all...it´s all done..inovation? where? was never there.

Now it will come to the consoles...i have one..and there is no real title there...it´s all done before. And to even top that Sony and MS have lied straight at our faces what these new "gen" of consoles will be all able to do...it took years and and several editions to even come close to what sony alone promised the first time they revealed the ps3.

The point is: gaming will go nowhere..as long as idiots are buying everything..no matter if console or pc. Consoles will be there...and the pc will be there..and both are going nowhere, they will stay. (in terms of tech..because of the consoles)  And it doesn´t matter that 1-2 game studios like Ubisoft make more console games..they have said this since years..and i wish those idiots would stay away from pc gaming.

EA and the others are the same idiots...they were talking about piracy and all that **** without any evidence to enforce DMR´s and thirt party software. Never have the thought that their games are pure ****. (oh please look at c&c4). customer sup? nah..don´t need them, better release a pice of crap software like DA.A.

Patching a broken software is obviously a gentle man act according to the QA member SW. nowdays. Makes you wonder if he didnt his job right when there are so many complains? I can remember a time where companies where quick with that, because they needed their fanbas. And WE were the ones spreading the word and with that making them what they are. (no i don´t say i made bw)  Working for EA sure has it´s peeks.

The customer is always wrong when it comes to games.  And it is a sheer wonder..that despite their so called loses..these companies still can go on. In a normal software environment they would get their asses fired.

Only interesting thing seems to be the wii..a bit arcade gaming at home, nice for friends. (yes nintendo is the devil)
