I know I want the elves to help me in the battle.
It seems I can either have Zathrian lift the curse - where he dies.
Or I can kill the werewolves, with him helping me attack, then kill him (for what he has done).
I am guessing the second option will give me better loot and EXP ... and is not really too far of a stretch for a "good" character.
Is this best loot / EXP route?
Any companion approval hits for deciding to kill Zathrian after we kill werewolves?
Thanks!
Nature of the Beast - best outcome for EXP and Loot? (spoilers)

Well, you can kill ALL the werewolves you alone without using Zatrian, so he don't steal XP
You can bring Zentharian and kill him but the Lady steal some kills
You can bring Zentthrian and help him but he steal kills
But going by the good end (Ending the curse) i think it's which give more XP

As usual, there's a wikia entry for that.

Depending on your levels of Coercion and points in Cunning, you can:
- Convince the Werewolves to rampage through the Dalish camp and kill everything (gets rid of any infinite elfroot glitches or "make lots of healing poultice" plans)
- Convince Zathrian to honorably lift the curse (after fighting him) - this is what I usually do
- Bring Zathrian to the werewolves, and don't officially help either side. You still end up in a battle, so you can choose who to help (and how much).
-- After the battle, you can still choose to fight Zathrian.

rampaging the dalish camp should offer the best loot and exp.
You get the special loot from everyone in camp.
More people to kill with rampaging the dalish.
Since no matter what you do you have to kill the majority of the werewolves.

Well, I am playing the game twice with two different characters but I find it hard to make different choices - in the first play of "Nature of The Beast" I got Zatharian to lift the curse - which makes sense as my char is an elf himself. In the second playthrough I want to side with the elves but Kill Zatharian for his betrayal and kill the werewolves as well - I am just wondering what companions to choose in order not to suffer a negative approval change - I guess Sten, Morrigan, Dog who else?

Convince Zathrian to come back with you to the ruins and kill the werewolves. Then accompany Zathrian back to camp. That way, you get XP from slaying Witherfang and the werewolves, plus Zathrian will give you a good axe afterwards. And you get Witherfang's heart as a talisman. It's win-win all around. (Except for the werewolves.)
Shale also works.
