This is the only set of games that has ever been like this, every other game I've played from them before did indeed have bugs but they were fixed. Especially if they included such bugs as not being able to install an expansion pack. THEN there is the fact that the extra content I got for purchasing it instead of an e-download is only useable in an unpatched version of the game? I haven't bothered to get any other DA:O DLC and I sure as hell won't be buying the next game.

I had the same problem but I uecasm posted this information which helped me get awakening working....hope it helps:

Open up your Dragon Age game folder.

Open addins, then dao_prc_ep_1 under there.

Right-click Edit the manifest.xml file.

Select from the <AddInItem line all the way down to and including the </AddInItem> line (this is almost the entire contents of the file).

Copy it to the clipboard.

Open your My Documents folder.

Open up BioWare, Dragon Age, Settings.

Right-click Edit the AddIns.xml file.

Go right to the bottom of this file, and immediately before the final </AddInList> tag (ie. right after the last </AddInItem> tag, paste the text you copied earlier.

Save and close everything, then run the game. Awakening should appear properly now.

Silver Moone,  you are master mind!

I am triyng to edit this f..ing xml, but without the success. Thanks you very much, I do not know how long it would take to me a trying to fing a right combination of keys.
When (If) you will travel to Ukraine - I'll give you a lot of beer or any else :-), do not forget to communicate with me by email in this case :-)

I had the same problem like Kynaeus - I have DA:O and DA:O Awakening, both are legal copy, dvd-box retail, russian version.
DA:O working fine, patching with 1.03 and 1.04 without any bugs, but I am can't install DA:O Awakening.
I decompressing archives to game's folder, but it was diffcult to me trying to create correct xml file.

Sorry for my bad-bad english...

I've had this problem too.

Solution that worked for me (btw I run win7 32bit)

1) Make sure to backup your savegames.

2) Uninstall Origins

3) Reinstall Origins using the express install (this might not be essential, but I did it just in case. Because it's working, I don't feel like trying it out again). I ignored the error message that popped up before installing. It mentioned something about .Net framework not being installed which was rubbish.

DO NOT up grade to version 1.4. Only install the 1.3 patch. This patch specifically mentions that it was created to ensure compatibility with awakening, and I presume some if not all parts of it have not been included in 1.4. 1.4 is not available on the bioware website. You might have to search for it. The version you get with awakening might work as well, I tried it before I did all this and then forgot it was on the disc so I didn't try again.

You might have to run the program in compatibility mode, I'm not sure. I did it and again, it worked so I tried nothing else.

Once 1.3 is installed, Install Awakening which should work now.

After this, check the game and the expansion work.

If they do, you can install patch 1.4 and then everything runs (at least on my PC)

Only one problem with that-you can't run Leliana's Song or Witch Hunt unless you have the Patch 1.04...:)
