Maybe you should read his "eloquent" first paragraph, also refered to as a "lead paragraph", the most important paragraph in a written compostion.

No, he was simply saying that was the reason you will see more F/F relationships. It's all supply versus demand, nothing more, and the reality that bioware cannot include everything for everyone.

That's exactly what I meant, you just used different words. I was insulted by the idea that heterosexual males should take priority just because they make up a very large portion of people that buy games.

I fail to see why the whole gaming industry should be designed to please the needs of the heterosexual male gamer just because this has been the most profitable focus in the past. Gamers these days come from a multitude of backgrounds. Female gamers are steadily increasing in number. If you want to be a competitive game company, it would be stupid to discount the heterosexual males. But these days, it is equally stupid to only cater to heterosexual males and discount all the rest of a game's potential audience. Shouldn't every company strive to make their games as inclusive as possible in an attempt to draw in new customers, rather than just doing the same old stuff over and over again?

Bioware have always been fantastic when it comes to providing choice, and they are one of the few companies that take the time to actually make their games open to a wide variety of gamers. This is, I suspect, one of the biggest reasons for their large fanbase. And this is probably also why people plead for same sex romances in this way. Because they know that if any company is likely to listen, it is this one. I haven't seen anyone demand anything. This is all about a wish to be given the same opportunities as everyone else, and I see nothing wrong with that.

He was referring to Dragon Age 2, not the Mass Effect series, which is the subject of both this thread and the forum it lies within. Nonetheless:

What does this mean for DA2? Well, we haven't talked about any romances yet. So you'll have to see-- we're not making any promises, in particular because of the limitations I keep bringing up. If we don't include same-sex content, however, it's not because we assume too many people will think it's "icky" or because we fear a backlash, economic or otherwise.

I believe his last sentence is rather important.

well alot of straigh males do the f/f content, like me, i cant bring myself to romance a dood, so all my female charaters are lesbians.

i try to avoid these threads but sometimes i feel people feel bioware is obligated to put their prefered romance in a game (straight or gay). to me romance wasnt a big deal in ME and ME2. the romance was 1/2 lines and done, so i was more into shooting **** up then romancing.

Since you quoted me, I'll assume that your post was directed at me as well. When or how did I say that I felt that Bioware are obliged to put my preferred romance in the game? I only voiced my personal opinion, which is that since they have f/f romances, it seems only natural to give the m/m people some love as well. These games are so incredible that it makes me a bit sad that a portion of gamers will never be able to enjoy all aspects of them. I am not homosexual myself. Nor am I a man. (Though an m/m romance might just be the thing that could help me stand a male shep playthrough. That horrible, dead voice...) That does not stop me from seeing the value of making m/m and f/f (in addition to Liara) romances available. I have never said that I demand this, only that it is something that I would love to see in the game.

And if your actual argument is that f/f the only thing that's useful since it is something that straight men would find fun, then I must say that I actually find that suggestion a little insulting, as a female gamer.

i wasnt trying to insult you, sorry if it came out that way.  alot of males do f/f content, maybe even more then females.  i think the number one male fantasy is 2 girls getting it on, so when it comes to f/f content you can get away with more.

Oh, don't worry about it. I apologise if I took it more seriously than I needed to. Not more grumpiness from me!

I haven't followed this thread in a long time but I think it's amazing that New Vegas has had a high sales number and there is tons of gay in that game.  Sorry if this is OT but there is actually a perk at the beginning of your game that will allow you to have "special" dialog options with the same sex.  There are also two gay companions in the game too.

So for people to argue that ME would lose sales if there was gay romance is quite asinine.  It was an asinine belief before New Vegas was released, though.  I have to applaud Obsidian and Bethesda for being so open minded.

Don't forget about Sarah Weintraub, she will sleep with the character if they pass a speech check of 75 and bring her 30 vault suits.

I didn't mean to derail this topic into Fallout discussion but I wanted to show that the world didn't end because of gay being in a video game and that video game actually ranked in a whole lot of cash.

Bioware, take notes.

Fallout presents it in a way that is neither cringe worthy, nor rage inducing; and not limited to a token minority either. Its a good representation compared to anything bioware has ever done on the subject. yes?

Yeah, one of my femSheps decided to go for her and I was really excited when Tali said all that dialog.  It actually seemed that Bioware included a real f/f option. When she stopped talking to me after jokingly calling me a bosh'tet, I was confused.  I guess I, too, should have read the forums to see who was all available.

btw, just clarifying the "real f/f option" thing: to me, asari don't count as truly f/f b/c they are unisex and Kelli doesn't count because she isn't considered an LI in the game (no paramour achievement).  However, I am glad both asari and Kelly were included as options...

Ten bucks the VGA announcement is a Kelly DLC. Who's with me?

Seriously though, I'm not sure what it is-could be a new IP. If its a new IP, I'd say there's a good chance of s/s romance popping up in it, which could help the chances for a Mass Effect s/s romance. If its some sort of spin-off, I wouldn't rule out the chances of an enlargening fan-base helping the cause

Bethesda added the perk that can make your character gay or lesbian as well, that adds new dialog options with the aformentioned characters, Bioware can do this on ME3

Bethesda is  bold enough to put openly gay characters in an RPG and I thank them for this because it made the game much more interesting and open ,they made the game Bioware could have made if they hadn't relented on the same sex romance option  both in ME and ME2.  But with a president existing now, I don't see any reason for Bioware to hold anyhthing back.

Meh, to me, if it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck then it is a duck, a blue skinned, tentacle headed duck, but a duck nonetheless, Asari look completely feminine, facial structure, breasts, hips, ass, legs and even their voices are "picture perfect" female, sure "in-universe" you can call them unisex but lets call a spade a spade here, they are a race of sexy blue alien chicks.

As for the New Vegas argument, well it isn't much of an argument at all, I don't see how NV's sales or the fact that it had a few s/s flirt lines factor into this issue, I doubt BW didn't include s/s relationships due to fear of a sales drop and NV's popularity and sales certainly weren't boosted by the sole fact that you could say a few homosexual lines here and there :bandit:

I agree, i don't think BW actively avoided the subject in fear of sales. But i think they cut the content, believing it had hardly any impact on sale.

And having highly successful games featuring s/s flirting and romance as a natural part of gameplay options, than maybe devs a more likely to realize that it's not something you WANT to cut.

I thought it was annoying. I would've liked Veronica as my FNV girlfriend. I don't mind lesbian characters but at least put someone in for us men too. Cass isn't interested(ing) at all too. By the way there's also a gay guy at Camp Forlorn Hope in the medical tent, the doctor, and a lesbian Ranger in McCarran that got raped so she's traumatized and will hit on all women.
