whats the issue?
The inclusion of same sex romances in the Mass Effect games. <3
The OP pretty much covers it...

After thinking about my m/m romance playthrough, because I had to mod the game somewhat, I wonder if carryover will be an issue into ME3. Ugh, they should just fix this, huh?

How does one go about becoming stickied? I think this being viewed as a 'hot button' topic may not aid our cause...
Presumably one bribes a moderator?
But good point, being buried in pages of threads isn't a decent fate for a topic with so much win. It would facilitate good discussion (and obviously more debate) if this thread were seen by the legions of adoring, dewy-eyed Bioware fans who lovingly frequent these forums.

I somehow doubt that if you modded the ME-1 files so that you could romance Kaidan as MaleShep, he'd be the one to be showing up in various places in ME-2 with a heartbroken speech, but I can't say for sure.
So yeah, I bet there'll be some migration issues.

He does, actually. I was shocked when I saw it on my M/M playthrough. You also get his picture in your cabin.
I don't think that I'll be able to take this save to ME3 though. It only worked in the first game because everyone thought you were female, but in ME2 everyone sees you as male (except Kaidan). So yeah.
(P.S. Throwing my support into this thread

LI Scanning? I could see one very controversial (and popular) mini game there.
Coming back to the topic of the Asari - while I by no means have a problem with a race of what are essentially lesbians (you're not really going to argue that are you?) if the intent had actually been to make them monosexed (as opposed to gendered, as there do seem to be "masculine" gendered Asari) and not have everyone agree they were really women, why not have them appear androgynous? This would have made the Asari something close to a race either gender could romance and call something close to same sex romance. (closer, at least, than it would have been for a man romancing an Asari) While not an ideal answer, I would still have loved to see a truly genderless monosexed race as a romance option and see what people made of that. (I can just imagine the 1000 page threads arguing which gender the character actually ways) With the right voice actor the only way one might have known would be to check the credits.

Interesting concept and a very good point. For my mind, the 'alien-ness' of the asari is undermined by their appearance as basically funky blue female humans with tentacles and magic powers. A realistically androgynous alien (but human form?) species would be far more interesting to the player, and would make somewhat more sense than the asari as they stand currently.
Keeping in mind that Bioware completely owns the Mass Effect IP, the inclusion of s/s romances then becomes a failure of will rather than a failure of methods. It would be almost trivially easy to create a 'bisexual' (if the concept even exists for them) alien species, or introduce gay or lesbian human or alien crewmembers - Bioware had an opportunity with over twelve new crewmembers in ME2. Indeed, the possibility of femShep romancing Liara in the first Mass Effect shows that some s/s romances have been declared okay. The lack of same-sex romances, then, certainly isn't a problem of not having suitable characters.

The more variety in character traits that affect the story and relationships the better - it makes me want to replay and try totally different characters!

They did this in DA, I don't see why they couldn't do the same in ME. For me, it's that it's an RPG - I like to feel like I can create whatever kind of character I want and lots of options, whether it's in relationships, actions, character development...is the point of an RPG.

Unfortunately there's some people who don't see it this way

If anything BioWares decision to cut almost any trace of s/s content from the game, remove or reduce most of the elements that represent a RPG and try to create a new fanbase while disregarding the old, have hurt the sales. Now they try to sell their DLC in order to earn more money. That doesn't change the fact, that they could earn more, if they would undo the damage they have done. The decision not to adress the issue is what? Pride or arrogance? It's not like we expect to get what we want for free. We know it will cost us money and you want to earn it, so what is stopping you BioWare?
As for the Asari: A race of lesbians? Have you seen a single couple of two Asari during ME2? Or even one Asari and a female partner? Every single one of them had male partners. The only pair I've spotted was Nef and Morinth while Nef, a loner and outcast, asked herself if she is a freak because she is in love with a woman first and alien second. Asari have been turned into a marketing joke. An Orion slave girl that Captain Kirk would like to f**k. And every single one of them is waiting for her big and MANLY hero to scratch her itch, because sex with another female is obviously evil. And they don't want to burn in ******-hell. And that is the species that is supposed to be the influencial and mysterious in Citadel space. I don't know if that is funny or sad.

As much as I want s/s contnent for ME2 I do releasise that making it happen has the potential to become a marketing desaster. For an example why, look at the current discussions that a french fast food comercial causes in the US. So the best way to do it in my mind is to do the needed work alongside a companion centered DLC (so that there is little to no extra cost)and release it as sepereate free or very cheap (<200 points) DLC. Charging more would pretty much negate any positive feedback.Syledir wrote...

There are several Asari in the two games who had/have relationships with other Asari in the games like the bartender, the merchant, Benezia ... . The Asari are not picky when they want someone to scratch their itch. But they are fanservice, an all female race that usually starts adulthood by beeing a stripper, turns into a milf and ends her lifetime as wrinkle free, wise woman wearing rather revealing clothes and not having any sagging body parts. Not to mention that the lifetime ambition of atleast half the Asari that Shepard talks with seems to be banging Shepard regardless of Shepard´s sex.As for the Asari: A race of lesbians?
