Making Shepard gay/bisexual would ruin the game for most of us who are straight...

Speak for yourself. I know I'm not the only straight ME fan who thinks that's just so much nonsense, and unless you've personally gathered poll data from the majority of straight fans, you're just making things up.

This.

dexi, it's great you decided to allow us non-intrusive gay romance options, that's all we're asking for :)

bioware got a lot of complaints about intrusive jacobs romance already (there's not enough mind bleach in the universe... how could my les shep speak to him that way? blergh)
i don't think bioware would make the same mistake again. nobody wants forced flirting, no matter same sex or not.

and you do have a point - while seeing protagonist run around in pink underwear is fun in dead rising 2, i don't think anybody wants devs to waste time and resources on such options for me3, it would be pointless and out of character. nobody's asking for a gay pride parade on a citadel.

opinions on gays irl are irrelevant to this thread and should stay out of it.

peace and love

The pages of this thread has reached the length of the average novel. Not much has been met in agreement. And that's all I have to say about that.

it seems to me that a lot has been met in agreement. vast majority is for inclusion of gay romance, and many of the people who disagree end up allowing gay option as long as it's not intrusive (like dexi).

I admittedly haven't read all 151 pages, but only have read bits and pieces, so I suppose my perception isn't 100% clear on what has and hasn't been met with any form of unanimous agreement.

There should be a option when you start the game

Straight- girl/guy girl/girl

Gay- guy/guy

That way it avoids seeing stuff i would rather avoid seeing, "Jacob why the hell are you trying to chat me up?"

I am a straight female and I will try out every available romance in a game: m/f, f/f, or m/m mostly because I like to see the different sides of the character I'm romancing. So I'm all for including man-love in Mass Effect *waves flag*

Girl-on-girl action is "gay" as well, my friend ^_^

As much as I am open minded about this, I doubt Bioware would make same sex relationships possible this late in the trilogy.

No, actually, now that I gave it a better thought...

I don't mind... Even make gay squad members that WILL hit on you ( if only, you get the chance to refuse and even better if in a funny way ).

I don't care... really.

I personally have a bad experience with gays hitting on the wrong person ( ahem ), that's why I saw red in front of my eyes and posted that... In retrospective, it's a good thing I posted what I did because those who support this cause brought good arguments, thus gaining pluses.

on one hand, I'm personally not opposed to gay romance in any way, on the contrary. what would bother me personally is ret-coning the characters, changing them in order to satisfy the need for political correctness? I'm aware that both Kaidan and Ashley recorded some extra lines, but in the final game they were straight and I'd rather it stayed that way.

consider this. is it possible that your character is not attracted to any of your romance options? absolutely. you don't have to pursue a single one its not "The Bachelor" where you have to pick someone at the end. emotions are interesting that way. One of the ways finding love as a gay person can be a challenge sometimes is because your sexual orientation is not the apparent one (and while it annoys me, I also understand why a lot of gay people try to visually and behaviorally distinguish themselves from others - how do you tell otherwise and don't hit on someone who has zero chance of reciprocating? Gaydar is such a fickle thing). sometimes you watch people around you find love while you are on the outside looking in, lonely. a lot of times you get to do that as a straight person too and there could be an occasion where you, the straight person are lonely while your homosexual friend is deliriously happy with a new lover. Not everyone can get everything all the time.

would I be open to a new character coming in, that's gay. absolutely yes, in fact I think it could be pretty cool if my female Shep would be attracted only to realize that he has no chance of reciprocating that attraction, will make it a bit more realistic then current "Everyone loves Shepard" dynamic. I personally just wouldn't want old characters to turn out something I didn't think they were. Even if I cannot see it (because its DLC only) I still know it and the picture in my head changes too much.

I thought of this too, but that would limit ones ability to go with the moment. No changing your mind on what your options are. That's why I changed it to a toggle

Shepard can already be gay or bisexual.

How?

*points at FemShep/Liara and Femshep/Morinth Femshep/Samara nad Femshep/Kelly*

That's how.

Though my canon Shepard is asexual anyways so the arguments that Shep's default heterosexual bother me in more than one way. :?

Heh, that does put an interesting turn on the homophobic train of thought.

Person A: "No, Shep's a badass soldier, not a fruit!"

Person B: "No relationships at all, Shep's a hardened soldier, not a horny teenager"

Wow, this thread is still going on.

You people do realize that having a male Shepard who is 100% straight is a creative decision already made by BioWare and there will never be M/M romance for Shepard in Mass Effect 3.

Shepard isn't 100% straight. By god am I sick of people saying that.

Where is Shepard ever forced to admit a sexual attraction to females?

Where?

Where does Shepard admit to not being sexually attracted to males?

Edit: That abomination known as a comic can burn in hell. It didn't get half of the things it was talking about correct.

As long as they don't make every character bisexual then sure, why not?

My only issue with having homosexual characters is when it feels tacked on. If they choose certain characters that are heterosexual, some that are homosexual and some that are bisexual then that's fine because it's realistic, making all of them bisexual like some people want would be a very bad idea.

The same goes for making previously heterosexual characters change, unless this is patched in the previous games.

I never really liked the explanations given here.  Casey's answer was reasonable if a bit puzzling in some aspects(ie, treating it like a PG-13 movie even though it's rated M and has a ton of stuff that would easily land it an R) but otherwise he was mostly talking about constraints, which I can understand, even if I don't like it.

Ray's answer was very odd to say the least, bordering on concerning since he seems to imply that despite whatever we say here, Shep is predetermined as straight.  Though he did seem optimistic for future endeavors so I'm hopeful on that front.

The gist of what I got was...

Casey: didn't quite understand the question.

Ray: we chose not to put time into it so we could put time into other choices.
