in our modern culture, we have some very weird stereotyped perceptions of who's gay or straight. doesn't make it true. the latest one I've heard was - anyone who spends significant amount of time in a gym, trying to get into good shape and who's not in a profession that requires it? GAY. riiiiight. poor straight guys, they are not allowed to be well groomed, they are not allowed to care about anything but the most macho pursuits, they are not allowed to be selective when it comes to sex and relationships, they are not allowed to be private about said relationships. its no wonder we have such a high divorce rate, that's assume that guys actually propose in a first place (which they do less and less)



could Kaidan have been bisexual? its a very very slight possibility, one they scrapped before they even got to recording VA for his character (or Ashley's for that matter). I'm more likely to see a possibility of Shepard being an exception to normal preference, but the catalyst for that to work would have to be very strong and very believable, otherwise it just doesn't work. Kaidan and Ashley were written neutral enough to minimize the amount of lines that would have to record.

Add in the fact that Kaidan only will have sex with someone special and it...it gets weird that he never mentions anyone.

Though yes I find it bizarre that Kaidan never mentions any relationships other than that one crush. Everyone else mentions reationships except the virgins. (Tali, Liara) and others you found out via proxy (Miranda) so...yeah it was odd.

Does Ash mention anyone? 

Jack - Murdock (or however you spelled it), that dude and girl

Jacob -  Miranda

Miranda - Jacob, uses iPartner

Thane - Irkhal (however you spell her name)

Garrus - That female turian

Samara - has kids

Tali says she never had any relationships, you don't know much about Miranda until Jacob mentions something in passing, or through DLC (but I wouldn't call THOSE relationships) what relationships did Liara mention?

edited - they recorder Shepard's VA only.

Kaidan and Ashley have the same VA modded character or not.

I especialy love:  "I've never met a woman who...."

It sickens me that they would include any form of "gay" relations. Ya, it's a reality in this world, but not accepted in mine...period. My Shepard is as straight as an arrow. In DA: Origins, once that elf assassin hit on me, I told him to leave my party. It's not that I don't like the people, just their choice of sexual lifestyle.



Meh, what can I say? I'm not politically correct and make no apology.

I ruled out virgins for that very reason.

Unless Kaidan's a virgin...is he? 

You learn about Miranda right after Jacob's loyalty mission. Very few will miss that. And you don't hear him talk about sexual exploits either (though that would be somewhat out of character for Kaidan).

And the fact that Kaidan hasn't fallen in love in 32 years isn't romantic to me. Its weird. With Alistair it's adorable because he's young very young. Kaidan...not so much. Also Alistair is a bit sheltered...while Kaidan isn't. Alistair's surronded by mostly males while Kaidan..wasn't surronded by males.

That was a pretty bad oversight now that I think of it. Did they think people would rage if he had an X? I know they were trying to get away from Carth Syndrome but...eh.

Simple. Say no. Not that easy in real life, but easy in the game. I had to deal with getting hit on by Tali, which just is like getting hit on by my sister if she were a genocidal maniac (to me anyways), but oh well, I dealt with it, let people play their game the way they play it.

Here was one example: Obviously MaleShep has dialogue specific to a gay romance. There are other scenes on youtube - I got the same dialogue with a simple SetGender.



If they took time to have MaleShep say "Kaidan, blah blah blah romance text" obviously they originally intended Kaidan to be a bisexual option.



It doesn't matter than they only had Kaidan use one gender-neutral script; it's the cheapest option to a bisexual LI.

aaaw, don't give up on Kaidan, Ryzaki! he only talks about Rahna because of the incident with her and a certain teacher - that's more about that incident then anything else. most characters in ME don't talk about their private lives and if they do mention something its usually relevant to bigger story in some way (I know of Jacob's mention, and it seemed to me that he said it to assure Shepard that his former relationship with Miranda will not make a difference on their teamwork). we don't know if Kaidan was ever in love, we only know that Shep is special. I'm pretty sure he liked someone at some point, I mean his friends set him up with a doctor and he eventually goes out on a date - pretty sure it wasn't his first date ever)



I know that some guys just don't like to talk about past relationships, it took me forever to widdle out some of the details out of my own husband and I still don't know everything.

Sure but its mentioned. Garrus' relationship wasn't releveant but he still found time to mention it. I mean...doesn't Ash show interest in Kaidan if neither she nor him are being romanced? ...Its just...something about it is off. And there's a difference between dating someone because your friends think you're in a funk and an actual relationship.

Yeah but your husband wasn't a video game character that automatically poured their heart out to the PC.

Something is just off. Well it seems you won. I no longer desire Kaidan to become a bi LI.

I always thought of the Kaidan romance as being driven by a protective instinct, and that quite frankly he didn't care about Shepard romantically, but that because Shep reminds him of Rhana, he gets that kick because he couldn't do it right with her. Thats just my take anyways. Never saw it about male/female or nothing like that. Wouldn't be a first for Bioware characters either.

oh noes. that's not how I wanted it to end (though you can have Joker, just be gentle with him ) I think Ash admits that she finds Kaidan cute (which is similar to what Kaidan says about Liara really), but I'm not sure she expresses actual interest. plus she's a lot more outspoken about her opinions then Kaidan is. I don't think he was pouring his heart out until the culmination of the romance, before that they were flirting, but cautiously. /shrugs and I don't know, I feel like friends wouldn't try to set him up with a potential relationship unless he had some in a past, I think.

Pretty sure Garrus only mentions his "letting off steam" because they are talking about releasing tension before the battle and how Turians differ from humans, its just his more "memorable" experience.

Cannot avoid Thane's mention seeing how it ties in directly into his loyalty mission.

SB is missing quite a few dossiers actually and now that I think of it, all the missing dossiers are on characters who may or may not be dead depending on your choices in ME1.

@Earthbornshep - I think people put too much stock into those so-called signs or honestly more like lack of thereoff and into modern gender stereotypes perpetuated by magazines like Cosmopolitan and Maxim.

and yet another edit - there's one thing that Kaidan says that can pssobily taken as comparing Shep to Rhana and its "beautifu, but not stuck up about it - like you"  and it honestly doesn't come across as projecting, when you take everything else into account (especialy his preference for adventurous women, when Rhana was nothing of a sort - gentle, kind, blablabla)

No I've seen friends try to set people up with anyone *especially* if they haven't had prior relationships.

But yeah...you won. Yeah he calls Liara cute but doesn't he also say "if that's your interest." and he only says this to a femshep does he not? Despite the fact that a dude shep can romance Liara. It's weird. And the nonmention of past relationshipsjust seems odd when nearly everyone but the virgins mentions *someone* from fairly recently.

And even the missing a limb makes him seem weirder I thought Liar was stalkerish with her "I couldn't let you go." but apparently Kaidan feels that even a Shepard that mostly ignored him is a part of him? Dude what? It's creepy and somewhat weird and...I feel dirty.

the whole missing a limb was IMO Bioware being cheap when recording voice overs. he says the same thing to femshep that didn't romance him :/ Both Ash and Kaidan have very minimal VA's in ME2 and it really doesn't help the situation one bit.

Really I missed this. I did romance Liara once (a rare once with a renedouche) and I didn't get this.

Then again it was renedouche. Kaidan probably thought if he said anything he was going to get punched in the mouth.

Time for a new ME1 playthrough I suppose. Again.

it IS creepy, but its not Kaidan's fault :/ I guess they wanted a dialog that would work with romance situation, probably assuming that Kaidan will only be saved by femshep's who romanced him. he also has something like that in ME1 (joker is waiting for you o na bridge, what the heck? did you have to reuse that particular soundbite????) its the Kashley syndrome and about as bad or worse then Kaidan wearing Ashley's armor (what the heck, bioware???)

Really I missed this. I did romance Liara once (a rare once with a renedouche) and I didn't get this.

Its more of a joke than anything. You know where after you pick her up on Therum, you can ask Kaidan about his thoughts on Liara, he calls her "easy on the eyes, if you like the bookish type"
You can then ask
Shep: Any intentions there?
Kaid: No, just art appreciation

or
Shep: "Oh I do" which translates into "Remember, I saw her first"
Kaid: Only by a few seconds.
Was just a good friendly laugh, had no affect on the relationship with Liara at all.

I haven't tried the other option, I suppose it could be seen either way, although I remember him describing Liara to Male shep with a lot more warmth then he did to femshep (but all but one femshep that I have romance Kaidan's, so expressing interest in another women TO a woman you're trying to flirt with seems inadvisable, hence the non-comittal answer)
