Its more of a joke than anything. You know where after you pick her up on Therum, you can ask Kaidan about his thoughts on Liara, he calls her "easy on the eyes, if you like the bookish type"
You can then ask
Shep: Any intentions there?
Kaid: No, just art appreciation

or
Shep: "Oh I do" which translates into "Remember, I saw her first"
Kaid: Only by a few seconds.
Was just a good friendly laugh, had no affect on the relationship with Liara at all.

Ah. That's...not bad but not exactly what I was hoping for either.

Ah well. I'll take Joker and Ben and we'll be in the tent.

Though I should've expected something when he turned down a threesome with FemShep and Liara.

it IS creepy, but its not Kaidan's fault :/ I guess they wanted a dialog that would work with romance situation, probably assuming that Kaidan will only be saved by femshep's who romanced him. he also has something like that in ME1 (joker is waiting for you o na bridge, what the heck? did you have to reuse that particular soundbite????) its the Kashley syndrome and about as bad or worse then Kaidan wearing Ashley's armor (what the heck, bioware???)

Except the losing a limb only triggers when you're not in a romance with him female or male.

And I don't recall Ashley mentioning limbs.

no, it triggered for my femshep every time O_O .  I managed to some how miss his declaration of love first time I did that mission, but losing a limb I get every single time.

and Ashley calls Shepard God :/

edited to add - what is it with you people and treesomes????

newsflash, not every guy has a treesome as their sexual fantasy and neither does every woman.  jeez.  of all the reasons I've heard for Kaidan being gay that has got to be the most stupid and the most offensive one.

Then your femshep's romance must've triggered oddly. I'm watching a vid of the romance version right now. There is no missing limbs part. Just "I loved you, how could you put me through that!"

The missing limb is supposed to be for non-romances. Which makes it weirder.

Yeah that was odd.

Bah, we men are pigs. I know a guy who waited until he was 31 to have sex, because he wanted his first time to be a threesome. Passed over his obvious-to-everybody-but-him soulmate for it too. And he's proud of that :/
Anyways, what got me is that he turned it down wuthout even any hesitation. I mean, tbh, I (who has the sex drive of a salarian) would have to go "Hmm", even just for a second. I guess we're hoping he;s not that big of a mary-sue.

Now I'm going to bed. I've closed the coffin hood just to be safe.

I think it depends on which conversation options you chose, really.

heard that one, one time too often, stopped being funny after I heard it for the 10th time.

why is it that not wanting a treesome makes someone a mary sue?  to me it seemd that he cares about Shepard, he's monogamous and its not just about sex for him, so treesome is just...totaly out of the realm of "oh hell no - I guess I misread you and how you feel about me, so I'd rather get out of that one right now" and either way Shepard is the biggest Mary Sue in the entire franchise, followed closely by Jack.

I don't think so. I've gotten that with renegades, paragons and renegons/pargades. I don't do his *unmodded* romance too often (and that reminds me I now have about 3 Sheps to replay and make single) and when I did I never got the missing limb convo.

heard that one, one time too often, stopped being funny after I heard it for the 10th time.

To each his own.

*hopes Big Ben is a squaddie an LI and actually had a past relationship but doesn't mope about it*

Jack? A Mary Sue?

*facepalms*

Shep's a Sue yeah but Jack? What kind of backwards logic makes you think she's a sue?

A survior =/= a sue

There's only *one* Mary Sue in the ME games and that's Commander Shepard.

And Kaidan's not a sue due to the fact that he's pretty much background noise.

Jack is ridiculously overdone. she doesn't completely fit the parameters (as there are people who dislike her and she has more then one flaw, even though those flaws are either sympathy inducing or endearing, so that matches), but she comes pretty close.

I'm hoping actually that they add past relationship back stories for all characters that currently don't talk about them (and that includes Garrus - blowing off steam is casual sex, not a relationship), just to stop the speculations and suppositions.

Edited to add - they tried so hard to keep Kaidan free of Carth syndrom that they ended up giving it to Thane O_O

That...doesn't make a sue. And alot of Jack's flaws do *not* make her endearing. They make her human. She isn't any where near a sue. She's simply a sympathetic character.

That's like saying Kaidan's a sue because his flaws aren't exaggerated and designed to make people hate him.

Eh. /shrugs

Frankly I'd be more okay with allowing Shepard of either gender to actually be rejected. That would be nice. :)

*resumes with her Renegade Shepard x Conrad fic* At least I can throw in some Renedouche mockery of Kaidan for his "relationships". And the temptation to change the ship has utterly vanished.

The last four pages of this thread... haven't made much sense.

I fear it's stuck in a spiral of debate about whether Kaidan is bisexual. It's obvious there are entrenched positions, but it may be easier if we leave the nitpicking up to the Bioware writing team.

One thing I did want to mention was that with DA2 coming out in around a month it will be interesting to see the new dialogue/icon system in action. I'm hoping ME3 uses a similar system, not just for the sake of romances but for making the options in general far less ambiguous.

and actually this is something else you and I agree on - I'd like for Shepard to be rejected once in a while, the utter iresistability of Shep is nuts :/ and on that note, I'm out of this thread, before I inadvertently ruin any of my favorite characters for more people

Nothing makes snese when I'm involved I'm afraid.

Yeah that might be best.

...A month exactly for me. ...Too long! Too long! :crying: Though yes seeing it in action in DA2 will be epic.

Though I doubt ME3 would bother with the emotional icons. They haven't so far...maybe we'll be lucky though.

Ah it's not that bad. And yes Shep being rejected once in a while (or a lot of whiles) would be nice. Yeah thanks for that by the way. I'll never look at Kaidan the same way again. <_< *wonders if she should trade him for Ash*

I personally don't care if people think he's not bisexual or don't want him to be in their playthroughs. I just hope they continue my M/M romance or continue to write it gender neutral as they chose to do in ME2 in ME3. ((I maintain if they wanted Kaidan's romance dialogue gender specific they very very very easily could have done so, but chose not to fairly consistently outside of one line in ME-1.))

I also hope they bring MaleShep's voiced dialogue saying, "Kaidan, I don't think I've had the pleasure of you serving under me" in ME3, since they axed it in ME-1 (lol).

Regardless, I think they wrote Kaidan to appeal on a romantic level to some women & gay men, as who in their 30's is going to find an attractive, polite, relatively put together man who is single, nearly a virgin if not a virgin, and just waiting for you to come along?

Still finding it strange if he's totally straight that he has no other woman to talk about in 15 years. Ashley is 6 years or so his junior and had a boyfriend.

I was pretty sure it was there already but.

"There was much rejoicing!" :wizard:

Now for it to be revealed to be Fenris and my squeeing will commence.

As for ME3. I find out Joker is the M/M option and my squeeing will probably kill the Reapers.

;)

Joker seems to be very much comic relief, I can't see him being a romance option (except that he loves the Normandy/EDI).

It's good news for DA2, David Gaider has precedent for writing some great romances - s/s ones included.

I'm still hoping in vain that Kaidan will come back and be open to romance from either character. Perhaps that two years separation from M!Shep will break through that bromance barrier! XD

I'm with you on that :D

As far as I am concerned, and as has been discussed numerous times in this thread and elsewhere, just because someone says they fell in love with a girl when they were young does not mean the same as saying 'I fell in love with Rahna and I don't like men'. I'm not saying that because he didn't say he doesn't like men that that was some implicit acknowledgement of being bi, just that what it wasn't was an explicit statement of only being straight. There is a difference. We all know that if BW want to write something, or someone, in a different way for the purposes of their storytelling and plot, they will find a way (DA2 being a case in point much discussed at the moment re: Anders, for example; I could also mention the sudden inclusion of Garrus and Tali as romance options in ME2). So if (and I'm the first to admit it's a bloody big if) the writers decided to bring ANY previous character in as a love interest for either gender, they will find a way to do so that doesn't break any lore, doesn't break the game, and can be viewed as a realistic part of character development.

But as I said, it's a bloody big if, and I'm 99% sure it will never happen (but I would squeal with unparallelled joy if Kaidan and Ash returned as bi love interests, just so BW know :P).

The most important thing I always want to get across in this thread, as always, is that there is a serious inequality at present in the way femShep can be involved in a f/f relationship (several, in fact, if you loosely define 'relationship), but no such m/m options exist, in any way, shape or form, for manShep. THAT is the biggest problem I have with all of this, and my love of Kaidan is merely secondary.

First, let me say: No! Jeweled donn't leave - you made some really good points and ADDED to the conversation/debate.

Second.... I agree with your point about 3-somes. Even though I admit to having it as a fantasy, I can also see the point about 1. respecting the people you are with and not hurting their feelings or 2. wanting to be alone with one person and having things feel wierd after (especially if you say... have a three-some with 2 girls you have previously dated - or the ultimate no-no a three-some with your wife and an xgf (or the corresponding male equivalent)).

I refer you to the ending of Chasing Amy for further insights and analisys.  (Curiously enough I was invited ot that movie by my gf and her best friend so uh I thought maybe they wanted to tell me something...woo!)

I don't get why people have a hard time wrapping their minds around the whole bisexual orientation. My current boyfriend is bi but he has been with girls before, doesn't mean he wasn't interested in men during those times or that he's still not attracted to women even though he's with me now. It's a really simple concept...why do people have such issues with it?
