Is that such a big leap? They're in ME1 and 2, they have a lot of history starting out as a squad who all have one goal in mind, stopping Saren. They've been through the most amazing events anyone could imagine, the fact that they develop feelings for each other is not surprising at all.
The fact that they're straight offends you. Why? Must they be bi or gay? You yourself said they don't have to declare it that would be silly and I agree. The point we disagree on with you guys the most is inconsistency. Dialogue and romantic scenes clearly lay out sexual preferences for the squad, there are bi and gay players that agree with this view! Femshep definitely has some lez tendencies or bi whatever you prefer but even those are limited too. Maleshep is James Bond in ME there is no question of that.
Does anyone get pissed off that James Bonds never has same sex romances in a movie? How come he never swings the other way? Because it's quite clear he's not gay. You guys remember kelly in ME2? That you remind you of anyone from James Bond? ME3 won't be any different because it would really alter the sexual landscape which has already been laid out, and lend belief to the fact that some squad members and Shep were in the closet. Utterly ridiculous, they can stop Sovereign and the Collectors but not come out until ME3 with their other sexual desires? I'm sorry but it's just not in the least bit believable.
You've misinterpretted what I've said. Characters being straight doesn't offend me in the slightest. I just take issue with people assuming they're straight because they haven't stated otherwise. Is it so much of a leap for Ashley to be bisexual, for example, and for her to form an attraction for FemShep after the events of the Mass Effect games? There's not much difference there. Most races are attracted to other members of their races. That's how we're built so we can reproduce. Asari are an exception to this rule, apparently, since they have broad appeal. So let's leave them out of it for now. So it seems just as likely that Tali will suddenly announce her love for Shepard as Kaiden would.
James Bond doesn't work as a parallel. He's a consistent character from a book. Books lead you by the hand throughout the story. You don't make choices, you don't create anything, it's all laid out for you. In a game, particularly one like Mass Effect, your decisions shape the world around you. More importantly, your decisions shape your character; from gender to appearance to personality.
