Personally I couldn't care less if a team member was gay or bi. Though what bugged me in DA2 was how everyone (excluding that baby Sebastian) who could be romanced was bi. It felt like the game was getting all in your face saying it's okay to be gay and if you hate this then you are a homophobic. Should former teammates become gay NO. Could new team mates be gay or bi sure. Should all new teamates be bi NO. Could one of each gender be bi sure. Bioware made it work in Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age Origins.

Garrus becoming gay is different than introducing a new M/M love interest.  I'm not seeing the parrels.

True, but that's getting into an entirely different category of problems: introducing new characters to a trilogy instead of further developing established characters.

Besides, I'd feel rather slated if Bioware opted to fix the S/S problem by simply creating a new s/s character to appease us. "Oh, cool, James "I don't care if I mack w/ dudes" Sanders......where were you in the first two games, exactly?"

If you actually think new characters aren't going to be introduced
into the third game you're going to be surprised.

As for
introducing a new same sex option will it fix what happened in ME1-2
nope,  but I think it will go a ways easing the problem.

James is there for new players in the ME3 series. He's supposed to be the new guy.

And for where he was. In the Alliance military doing his thing. Where do you think he was?

It isn't.

But ironically enough that is a pro for the s/s side more than a con. Opening an LI to bisexuality means there's less LIs in general to deal with. Making an old LI (like Ash or Kaidan) romanceable to a new Shepard in ME3 (of either gender) means that

A. Less characters to deal with
B. Not having to write up these new characters and such and giving them a history with Shepard
C. Having a history with Shepard and the romance can flow from all three games

Of course there are holes in that as well. But thanks for the insight you'e given me something to think about.
Not adding new Lis isn't the same as making a past LI bisexual. B)

That's fair. Hey, if it's well written, I'll take Ash/Kaidan realizing their true sexuality in game 3. That's probably the only way I'd really like a S/S romance, as like you said, the foundations are there, just not the realizations.

I guess I'm just afraid Bioware'll find a way to screw up that writing. Not like they've screwed up the writing for any of their games before or anything

I think therein lies the best argument against the inclusion of s/s romances in ME3...and it actually has nothing to do w/ the fact that the romances are s/s.

The fact of the matter is this: introducing any romance that occurs within the third game of a trilogy has to be done in a way that doesn't feel rushed or contrived--for ME3, I think that's impossible. I'd be surprised if Bioware gave us ANY option to romance anyone other than our first two game choices.

I don't think it's impossible if done with existing characters.  Sure, they get together in the final game but there is the dynamic of having a long history together.  I find it romantic.  I'm not against new characters that can be romanced but that's where you and I agree on it feeling a bit rushed.

...Damnit. I just ordered a pizza online because of that. I've been staring at the order screen for like an hour now contemplating if I don't mind getting fat.

On James Sanders, I know it makes sense to include him- I'm just being a whiny diehard :( who wants Bioware to stop splitting screentime and give awesome characters their due. No more of this "Garrus only gets 2-3 convos per Normandy!!!" crap.

Gotta love modding! :D

Rynluna-- Yeah, funnily enough Ryzaki JUST convinced me on that notion. As a side discussion, which crew members do you guys think would be the best options for past squadmates becoming bisexual? I'm a curious little outsider.

This thread needs more calibrations!!

Seriously though, re-question: which past squaddies do you think work best for becoming bisexul? Is there like a consensus?

*points at siggy* Kaidan and Ashley for one.

From ME2 most likely Garrus and Tali.

I think Kaidan would be a better option than Garrus but I'd take what I could get. But if its Garrus I don't see it happening unless Shepard approached first. I could see Tali blurting it out, Kaidan and Ashley both (duringthe explanation on why they chewed Shepard's head off during Horizon.) maybe throwing their feelings (romantic or otherwise) into the conversation. (Or Shepard could approach first frankly that would be preferred. I like making the first move).

The others I can sort of see but not as well as those four. Out of everyone on the Normandy they are the ones who have been with Shepard the longest. (Well them and Joker).

I always thought that Chakwas's drunk "Or hell, maybe it's you!!" comment was a "Just testing the waters, see what kinda response I get" sorta sentence. ;)

Privilege? Surely you mean right!

I probably could let it slip by without much thought if those double standards weren't there. Sure, some people might say that it's an alien race and we shouldn't force human ideals on them. But this isn't just about canon. Art, media and entertainment reflects society and that has unsettling implications. I'd go into that further but I suspect I'd end up ranting and going quite a bit off-topic.

So, in order to keep this about the game and on topic... I wonder what kind of reaction the player base would have had if an all-male alien race was introduced instead. It could have been a clever parallel to the alien space babe, actually. And what if they'd been exclusively interested in males?
