@jlb524 Regardless of whether it's full of fail or not, it's in the game, and as far as I know, it's staying. What can I say?

@Stealthy Giraffe. Please refer to my argument about the friends and friend zone thing. It's a few pages back.

Never said they couldn't or shouldn't make them when they want to in their games. I'm suggesting they are not going to make Shepard gay because they already haven't despite making games with gay LIs. They don't have to make every one of their games like that.

As for sales impact one game that is a sequel doesn't constitute hard facts. It sold strongly based on DA:O And awakening fans. It seems there is quite a lot of negativity around that game for many reasons. I might never buy it while loving DA:O my new #1 RPG. It could affect future sales of all BW titles.
.

look at the hyocrite. Me mentioning that if we don't buy games had you saying "what difference would it make" but YOU don't buy one game and it could affect the future sales. My god you must burp rainbows and butterfly, cry golden tears and your dead skins cells turn into currency.Posted Image /snarkiness.

How does someone not buying a game because it doesn't have gay LI = people not buying future titles because they do include it? They could always introduce gay LIs to regain your sale while they still lost anyone upset with them being included. Since 90% of the potential audience is hetero it is a forgone conclusion they would lose more sales than not putting it in at all.

BTW I might not buy it because the conbat is terrible among other things. The bi LIs don't bother me except for overaggressive hitting on and penalizing players for not initiating m/m romances.

BW is the one that has to worry about lost sales though if they ever folded I would lament it as they are my favorite dev.

oh did you poll every single person who buys or rents or borrows Mass effect to find out their sexuality? If not then how could you even say that 90% of Biowares audience is straight? EVEN if you were right, I'm straight and I play S/S romances all the time. My canon femshep is bisexual and I have a PT for every romance with her, yeah She's even seen the inside of Tali's helmet and Tali had no problems pouncing on her.Posted Image

It's only in the ME2 game at this moment.  I'm saying that it could easily be removed from ME3, so the question is, do you think that this is a good idea?

This is all hypothetical...if a BW dev came to you for advice on the Tali romance in ME3 and asked you if it should be removed in that game due to it's cheapness and relationship ruining nature, what do you say?

That's the thing though isn't it, things can be removed from games. Like bisexual romance options. I wonder if you'd be just as irked if the Talimance was suddenly removed. Not that people got to play the Ashley/Kaiden s/s romance so you're a little better off having at least experienced the fan service.

Oh-ho-kay, better metaphor.
What if there was a LOT planned for the Tali romance in ME-3? What if they had this huge, important mission that would end with a romance completion, and it was just cut off a month before ME-3's release?
And you'd have to mod the game to access the Tali romance?
It's like, right there in the finished product, and it's hinted at, but when you try to push Tali further in a conversation she just repeats herself?
No mission for you.

Boo-hoo, huh?

@jlb524 Well, from what I recall, we are supposed to be able to finish our romances in ME3, so I think that implies that one of the popular ones won't be removed, as that would turn off a lot fans and make Bioware lose money. So no, I don't think it's a good idea.

I think that answers both of your questions.

@centauri2002 Would I be irked? I'd be a liar if I said I wouldn't be. But I would also be irked because Bioware wasted my time implementing the romance that I like the most and taking it out. But I wouldn't be too irked as I can always make a fanfiction (which is also what I'm doing as well.

Ah yes, fan fiction, definitely a route worth taking to eek out one's frustration with undesired plot elements. :)

I think we're probably stepping a little away from the point with these comparisons between bisexual love interests and the Garrus and Tali romances though. I think, put simply, I would say that BioWare have shown that they'll accommodate the fans by adding a romance to a character so why can't they do it again?

You do understand that the Talimance, fail or no fail, set a precedent, right? That regardless of a characters existing circumstances, if the character is popular enough, pretty much "anything goes"? Tali is a quarian, can't share food with a human, is one of a race of aliens with a very low population and therefore every quarian has a responsibility to have children if at all possible, and yet Tali throws all of that out the window just for some antibiotic-smeared sexytimes with a human? That to me is way more farfetched than Miranda saying to FemShep "I didn't know you felt that way Shepard, and it hadn't crossed my mind before, but now that I think about it, why not? Yeah, let's give it a shot." Because you see, in the latter scenario, both parties are the same species.

It cracks me up that people claim that two humans of the same sex hooking up is unrealistic unless both parties wear I Am Bisexual T-shirts in ME1 and ME2, but a human shagging a quarian or a turian is totally understandable, realistic, and normal. They're ALIENS. For all we know, they smell like mildew. And I'm thinking that the likelihood of compatible naughty bits is rather low.

I'd wonder why there are numerous posts repeating the same answer to very
different questions throughout someone's post history, but I digress.

But but but parallels!
Parallels everywhere!

And to be honest, in this information-limbo we're in, I'd rather talk about Tali and Garrus for 50+ pages than return to Asari-ville. Oh, gawd.

You hit the nail on the head there. It's laughable and just a little depressing that people are horrified by same sex romance between humans but don't shy away from inter-species relations.

@Cootie I think we are past that, though, as I have made other points.

Adding an service and retcons (if you believe it is) in ME2 =/= adding more fanservice and retcons (if you believe it is) in ME3

You're right, let's not start that all over again. :P

@Ramirez: I never said I believed revealing a character's interest in Shepard was a retcon (it's obviously going to be fan service at this stage though), as long as it's written well. Besides, it smacks of double standards and hypocrisy if you allow it for one group of the community but not for another, especially since it was planned in the first place. That, and it doesn't detract from the story nor the characters.

Actually, one could argue that removing s/s romance options from ME-1 and -2 is a kind of fanservice, since it caters to the opposition, hm?
Especially since they performed a retcon all over Kaidan's hair and Ashley's vaccuum-tight suit, resulting in ruining their characters for me, because it made them shallow and uninteresting.

I doubt they'd lose that much money by cutting the Tali romance.   Even if they did lose a bit, it would be offset by the money saved from not having to implement that resource in the first place.

Anyway, the question was less concerned with money (which I feel is a non-issue as ME3 will still sell well even if the Talimance is cut) and more concerned with artistic integrity.  But if you just want to talk about money now, it seems that adding in s/s romances doesn't hurt sales, so why not do it?
