The reason why I'm not paying attention to the Talimance is because it already happened so there is no point going over that.

Then stop saying we all shouldn't be able to have our Shepards romance existing characters because it makes you look like a hypocrite and not very smart.

I think a horrible consequence in ME3 is that if you romanced Tali then she dies from exposure to human germs and is dead before the game starts ;)

@jlb524 Yet if ME3 went my way, there would be new characters who are gay/bi. I think it's a fair compromise.

@centauri2002 Not to be rude, but I have to explain this again? This is partially why I'm not responding to some posts, as I'm too busy going over what I've already said.

Then it's just as I suspected. You are just ignoring things you don't want to address, even if they are perfectly relevant to the discussion. In that respect, RamWo, you are disrespecting me. So next time you want to write up a Politeness Citation, you can cry me a freakin' river.

I think there's some concern that there just won't be any new LIs in ME3 (given that there are 9 already), which means that unless they make someone like Ashley or Kaidan open to s/s romance, no s/s loving can be had.  Doing something like this would be a lot easier on the devs for sure...in theory, they could do a lot more with existing romances if they don't have to make new ones with new characters, so this might be the best route from that perspective.

I have to agree with you on that point. Ashley never really struck me as someone who'd keep her sexuality or her attraction a secret.
The only issue is of course Kaidan's hair being unromancable by male Shepards on the PS3, however. o.O

I'm a PC-person, so I don't know if that DLC-thing allowed you to save Kaidan or somesuch.

@centauri2002 If I recall, Tali comes on to Shepard, not the other way around.

Not to mention new characters would take resources away from older ones.

Oh come on...I've already maxed the friendship/rivalry scale with you.  You are already at 100% which means I won't gain or lose anymore with you now.

I'm not talking about Tali. I'm talking about same sex romances. BioWare are unlikely to put one in Mass Effect where it isn't intitiated solely by the player. Not after the complaints about Anders in DA2, I suspect.

You still have to do my loyalty missions and gift quests though. Don't think you're completely off the hook. :D

Male Shepard can save Kaidan via the intro comic on the PS3. And he can even choose not to romance Liara OR Ash.

A new character would indeed probably be the 'best' option for those who support a s/s LI (besides Liara) but who don't want that characterization added to existing NPCs, yes. However, that's far from the ideal situation, IMO, solely because of the relationship continuity (whether LI or not) that carries through the previous games. I opted to invest in a trilogy, and I'd like the kind of payoff that rewards that investment. The best solution would have been if they hadn't cut the content to start with, but as I lack a TARDIS and the leverage to get the devs to reject the cuts, that option's really out the window.

If BioWare went the route of a new character, they'd have to outdo themselves with some damned fine writing and characterization before the romance flag is tripped. The work on the LIs in ME2 doesn't convince me that they would do that (though Mordin is an argument in their favour). With ME2 as the baseline for expectations, I just think a new LI represents an investment they aren't willing to commit to; especially true for a solely gay/lesbian squaddie, but even for a bi one.

Bioware isn't all that bad at making characters, I'm sure they can come up with something.

Oooh! Awesome!
That's kind of been my reason for being all "Eeeeeeeh" towards Kaidan being the s/s LI. But hey! With that out of the way, bring in the rainbow-flags!

That way it'd be even harder for the ones who find this content so utterly disgusting and offensive (you know who you are) to actually, you know, find it.

From what I gather, the three ME1 LIs will have a larger role in ME3 than the ME2 ones (considering they can all die). I will go out on a limb and say that I bet you will be able to start a new romance with Ashley/Kaidan/Liara in ME3 even if you turned them down in ME1/did not play ME1. I don't see a problem with making this 'new' Ashley or Kaidan romance open for both genders. To be honest, the new path could be similar for both genders of Shepard (Ash or Kaidan finally admit that they've had the hots for Shepard since way back when).

My main criteria for any same sex romance character is that at least one option be a HUMAN character. And preferably attractive, interesting, and relevant to the story. Kaidan and Miranda already have those traits built in, with the added bonus of continuity from the earlier games. But if BioWare could pull off the same feat with new characters, then that would be nifty too.

Well, they're all Spectres now. That's got to mean a lot in terms of writing your own ticket, in all aspects of life. Certainly no fraternization problems, anyway.^_^

I think they should make a bisexual female who is a cross between Samus Aran and Sniper Wolf

Personally I'd rather see Jack than Miranda, although given her 'I don't play with girls' line (despite previously saying she had), I doubt she'd be available. Shame. Though, by this point, I think I'd accept almost any human s/s option there is.

And I can't think of any companion where it would suddenly ruin them or be unbelievable for them to admit they fancy a same sex Shepard.

I know what you mean, and it really is a matter of preference for the most part, I just thought Kaidan and Miranda made the most sense because they are the most reserved with Shepard, whereas Ashley, Jack and Jacob are more "cards on the table" types. For Jack to be a believable same-sex LI, ME3 would have to explain her "girl's club" attitude in ME2.

"Tali already happened so I'm not going over that" is not a sufficent answer to "what's so special about tali that she can be retconned and not other existing characters?" that is in fact a terrible answer. Tali's no some goddess who has special priveliges that other characters lack. She's just as mortal as they are. Saying "oh they're already retconned so other's can be the same" is a selfish view point and discriminates because it doesn't suit you, making it ignorant along with selfish.
