@Cootie Now that I think about it, if it could be done where I can remain friends, and not have to worry about being forced into a relationship, yes, I think I'd be fine with that.

But the thing is, Bioware isn't really good at that.

Again, I think this is due to the Action Hero From Hollywood writing they're trying to do with Mass Effect. The cool-factor, so to speak, which in my brain makes it so-ho awful.
ANYWAY!
I'd like to point out that the team working on the Dragon Age sequel managed this very well. Only in one scenario did I feel "forced into a confrontation," and in that case I was shocked, but I dealt with it accordingly and I felt very pleased afterwards.
I wanted to hug Anders' character development for being ossum, in my opinion, considering the medium.

My point is that DA2 handled friend zones very well. Bioware's not incompetent in that regard. It's just the ME-team that tends to try way too hard in the Action Hero area.

And the retcon = more retcon doesn't make any sense.

No, what doesn't make sense is to say one retcon is fine while another isn't especially when they are practically the same thing.

No one here is necessarily arguing for more retcons.  Tali (and Garrus) were brought into this in order to counter one of your points (that changing characters for romance is bad).  You are trying to twist the current debate into something else:

Us:  Since Tali and Garrus were retconned, they should definitely retcon a previous straight LI into being bisexual.
You:  No, not necessarily.

But this isn't accurate.  Not one of us has stated that as a premise for one of our arguments, but instead as a counter to one of your arguments.

You began with this point:  If they change a previously un-romanceable character so Shepard can romance them, that would be cheap/unrealistic/ruin immersion/etc.

Then a bunch of people countered with:  Well, they did it with Tali/Garrus and a lot of people, including you, seemed to still like it....what's the big deal?

You have yet to counter that.

No one is being forced into a relationship, and I've been able to turn down advances without issue.

As a person who roleplays lesbian Shepards, I've had to deal with my Shepard sounding like a cougar in heat with Jacob and other flirty dialog from male crew members.  You don't see me whining about the game being ruined because of all this happening.  I guess I'm just secure in my sexuality and know that I'm not going to go straight from these instances in the game.

It seems like that because I rejected Tali, she's going to cry :(
And I do feel that the relationship is damaged.

This.

I don't like the interaction between Jacob and Shepard because of that but I can still enjoy the game. It doesn't change my Shepard either. She's still a lesbian. I just ignore it when I have to talk to him now. Or just avoid conversation with him in general.

I would never ask for his romance to be removed from the game because it felt strange to me.

Anyone who's been rejected will feel flustered, but I don't see any crying, just dissapointment, especially since I take the PARAGON route by worrying about her safety. My sheps are gentle men :)
I've done that plenty of times, turning Tali down, and every time I've completed the dialogue tree with her being a close friend, sans the romance.

I did say that it "seems" like she is going to cry (from my perspective at least).

Also, I was providing an example of a "forced" choice.

So, just because I don't have a sig containing a certain character, you think I don't care about them? Wow. That is so shallow, even by this forum's standards.

Plenty of room for Garrus if you want to get rid of one of your Tali tributes, pal. And why should we think twice about you at all? Clearly all you care about is Tali and making sure no one else gets what you already got with Tali. Not exactly incentive to evaluate you on a deep level. Here's how the equation looks to me:

Person LURVES Tali
+
Person 100% happy with Tali being bangable in ME2.
+
Person 100% opposed to the exact same situation happening with other characters.
=
Person kind of a douche/hypocrite

Now don't get me wrong, I don't think anything on the order of the Talimance in ME3 is a good idea at all. In my opinion, any chance of Tali being a remotely appealing character in ME2 was forever lost by the Taint of the Talimance. So if anything, the Tali example, while setting a precedent for inclusion is actually a good argument against inclusion due to it's pandering nature and ridiculous fanserviceishness.

Perspective is always up for interpretation, and as far as I can tell, she was flustered, not crying; and neither was the choice "forced', it's a choice. I can turn down Tali's request in either a compassionate or uncaring way, or accept. The relationship is unmarred nevertheless. I can still be close friends with her.

Wait...you can make Tali cry AND kill her? Maybe ME2 is a better game than I thought...

I wasn't sure if there was same-sex LI's in ME2 or not, I know you can flirt with Yoeman Kelly as either male or female but I wasn't sure about any of the team mates. I don't really care if its in there or not, but it would be nice to have the option for those that want it.

Someone should really close this thread.

The pro-same sex romance party is too rabid.

BioWare should just add one gay romance option for each gender and be done with it. It's not what these people want, but what is? They're irrational; unreasonable.

The most you can do is throw them a bone just for the sake of conscience.

You again....unless if you didn't read the openning page, having a gay option is what we're asking for. I don't know where you've gotten that other...stuff from.

You seem like you're talking to someone in particular but I'm not sure who. Or are you just thinking out loud, so to speak?

I think most people here would be happy with one of each sexuality, actually. I'm happy with the game as it is. But, then, it already caters for me.

Hmmm, you're throwing around words like "rabid", "irrational" and "unreasonable" as if you know what they mean, and yet the context shows that you kind of don't. What is rational or reasonable about someone who tries to keep someone else from having options in the game, even if they're options that same person can avoid? What's rational about schtupping Tali at every opportunity, but saying that someone else shouldn't be allowed to have some hot girl-on-girl action with Miranda? Hmmmmmmm? In any case:

Even making the ridiculous - and wrong - concession that they're not female doesn't change the fact that they are shaped like hot blue chicks, and as such are likely to be pursued by people who are interested in same.

We're very reasonable actually. When presented with unreasonable counterpoints, we counter them with reasonable ones. it's up to the opposition to follow suit and they have yet to do so out of selfishnes and possible trolling intentions. This thread has remained on topic despite derailing attempts and we hope to keep it that way so that we may provide Bioware with the feedback and requests hey created this board for.Posted Image
