Is KOTOR really that good of a game?

It's enjoyable,  it's no Mass Effect but it's amusing.

Yes. :D

For the time, it was amazing. Still my favourite Bioware game.

I never saw star wars, but everyone goes on about it here so I wonder.

Outsidde of basic concepts it doesn't have anything to do with the movies.

Aww, well I've still got an old machine (that barely manages with ME2 to my chagrin) so I shouldn't have any problems, hopefully. I'm going to go track down that mod. >.>

Heh, i got through about half of it on my old Vista laptop before it crashed permanantly. Now both my machines are 7. GYAH! Kinda wish they'd work to fix it

KotOR is one of my favourite games, for sure. I was never into Star Wars before, even after seeing the movies, but that game sucked me into the universe. :)

It's just a shame Juhani wasn't better developed and allowed to be a proper LI. Even though I didn't find her the least bit attractive. >.>

Just saw the interview with Casey Hudson from the Game Informer website, including some discussion of romances throughout the series:

Not much new, unfortunately. A lot about fans enjoying the romances (not all fans... :/) and a few interesting tidbits about characters from the first game who the players had links to (presumably Kaidan and Ashley) reacting and responding in ME3. No subtle hints ;)

Somewhat ironically, he also stated that Bioware "find comfort in doing something that's ambitious."

Still an interesting interview, it's a fascinating insight into the design process and the team's own perceptions of the series.

Yeah. Im not quite sure. I think one of the devs described them as monogendered, and the codex says female, and since there is only ever two genders that I know of, they're screwed either way! Posted Image

You can be monogendered and female at the same time.  They are not mutually exclusive.  A monogendered species just means a species that only has 1 gender.  And seeing as males cannot reproduce (by definition), that just leaves female.  And monogendered is not to be confused with asexual.   They are different things.

*thought she was pretty attractive*

But, yes, a shame that a great deal of her romance dialogue was cut out of the game.

Bastila in KotOR as a female Revan. Gawd that was frustrating. I actually put up with playing a male character to do it!

There's a mod for that now. And it's fantastic. Bastila is all kinds of awesome.

Sadly it's just a quick mod that makes Bastila ignore the gender flag. She still refers to the female Revan as if she were male during the romance dialogue.

Would be interesting to see if it would be possible to produce a new and unique F!Revan/Bastila romance with some creative editing of the dialogue audio files.

I think the easiest fix for this was removing or renaming the opening FMVs:
biologo.bik
leclogo.bik
legal.bik

Keep in mind, though, that there's always a chance of the game freezing/crashing after an FMV has been played. Especially annoying if you travel back and forth between planets a lot. Save often. '-'

Finally... there's this enemy in the game. I can't recall what the creature is called. You encounter a few of them on Kashyyyk and Korriban. They're the creatures Jedi had been sent out to exterminate in the past. The gas cloud they generate when they die makes the game crash in Windows 7, so you have to have the camera positioned so that it doesn't show the creature's death animation when it dies. -_-

Admittedly I only had eyes for Bastila in that game. ;)

That said, I found her attitude at the beginning rather off-putting but I definitely grew to like her. That seems to be a pattern for me and BioWare romances. Bastila's straight-laced, almost arrogant attitude; Princess Sun Lian's arrogance; Liara's innocence - I didn't start off loving any of them but through their character development and exploration they quickly became some of my favourite characters. ^_^

At this point, I don't really mind as it's better than what I had available to me on the Xbox. But, yes, it would be fantastic if someone could come up with a mod that could somehow sort out that gender flag issue. ^^

I wonder how much it would cost to hire Jennifer Hale for one hour.  Heck just set her up with a $10 mic and a PC and it'd be better than nothing without costing a dime for studio fees. *sets out donation box* :wizard:

Yes, I know it would never happen, I can dream if I want to! :P

I believe it was Lucas Arts that wanted the Juhani romance completely cut, and BW had to fight in order to keep it in...though, it got cut back a lot :(

@Makenzie: I'd donate to that fund!

@jlb: Yes, I just read about that earlier today. I'm not sure why, but I didn't expect that from LucasArts. I'm disappointed in them. D: When I played through KotOR the first time, I didn't even get any dialogue from Juhani that suggested she was interested in my F!Revan, but I did the second time. Was a bit of a surprise. Pity it didn't go any further.

Just wanted to share Shepard's happiness right now and thank jlb524 for telling me how should I edit the save to be able to do this :)

I don't mind if they don't implement this officially. I do hope they do the VA and leave it there so modders can dig it up as they did in ME1&2, that would be enough for me.

More from Hudson in the Game Informer interview today about romances in ME2 and how Bioware responded to fan feedback from the first game. Apparently fans really responded well to Garrus and Tali, so they were made romancable characters with a larger role for ME2. We pretty much knew that already, but interesting to hear it again in such terms.

I guess some fan feedback is appreciated >_>

I wonder, in the modded versions of ME-1, do the LIs still call you a man if you're a FemShep, or a woman if you're a MeerShep?

Yep. People will say "yes sir" to Femshep and "yes ma'am" to Manshep. Apparently what you do is to alter a byte in a way that makes NPCs think you're of the opposite sex. In that pic I posted, Ashley thinks Shepard's a dude. Luckily, Shepard uses the appropiate voice because the lines are there, recorded but officially unused.

Am I right in thinking that this is 'fixed' if the ME1 save is carried over into ME2? The s/s romance flag and dialogue are still there (even in LotSB), but everyone goes back to calling you the right title?

Also, I may have missed where you said it 23 pages ago, but was this a modded Xbox save for ME1? I'd love to know how to do that if anyone could PM me or post links, etc here. So far all I've been able to find is how to mod ME2 save games to retroactively mark the ME1 romance flag.

I support this. As a straight guy who plays on the XBox and as FemShep only, I wish I could romance the others. Mark Meer's voice acting in both games kind of grates my nerves after a while to the point where it takes effort to get to the LIs. I wanna romance Jack lol.

Yeah, that is one thing I really liked about bringing modded games over to ME2.  Your LI is carried over and they call you by the right pronoun.  The only hitch is in the letter that Kaidan sends.  He still calls Sheploo a 'woman'.  The Liara lines work properly for femShep but not Sheploo.  Poor, poor sheploo.

I’m a straight guy that prefers playing as femshep too. I only really like Meer when I’m playing renegade. I like Liara and all, but I’d like to have another f/f LI that isn’t an asari. I have more malesheps then I do femsheps, but that’s only because I need to have male toons to romance Tali/Jack/Miranda. I won’t use the m/m romances, but they should have some in the game as well. Everyone should have an option.
