"BioWare had the budget to include a whopping NINE possible romance options, 6 hetero and 3 girl-girl. To say that guy-guy was left out due to budgetary constraint in this case is absolutely not true."

>_>

<_<

*cough-cough*

There is a point in there somewhere. Tum-ta-tum.
A very subtle one.

Does anyone else hate the continuity argument?

"If it wasn't in the first 2 games, why put it in here now? Bioware already proved that Shepard is straight by not including such options before." pretty muchs sums up that argument.

It's ridiculous.

Generally speaking that's usually the cover argument for their real problem.  I suppose somone, somewhere out there in one of the multiverses might actually be sincere.  But I doubt it.

Yes, and it's a really easy argument to destroy.

I don't think Ash would be down with eating tuna taco's.

Like I said in my previous post. I'm all for same sex LI's in ME3 but I don't want it handled in the same hamfisted way it was in Dragon age 2.

Either do it right or don't do it at all.

It only really felt hamfisted with Merrill. The rest made sense to some degree.

I only romanced Merrill with my psycho b¡tch pro-Templar blood mage Mahaelis Hawke (my avatar girl). When your Hawke is a nutjob, the Merrill romance is appropriately skeevy.

My other two mages romanced Anders, the girl (Siansonea Hawke) was a goody-goody and the guy (Henrick Hawke) was a smart-aleck, but they were both pro-mage, and that romance made a lot of sense, though obviously the end of Act 3 presented some challenges for both of them. My current character (Sheridan Hawke) is a male warrior (my first non-mage!) and even though he's a Boy Scout, he's going to go for Isabela. I plan for him to go from all-Diplomatic in Act 1 to a mix of Diplomatic and Humorous in Act 2 and Act 3. And I'm going to change his hair and facial hair in each Act as well.  I love that the game lets me choose to romance whichever character makes the most sense for that Hawke, and I don't have to plan my Hawke's gender in advance just to romance a specific character. Sometimes I know beforehand whether a character will go for a certain character, but sometimes I don't. The way they did it in DA2 may not have been perfect, but it was still pretty great. I don't think an all-bisexual cast of LIs would work in ME3, obviously, because there's too much history with these characters, but I do think that a couple of them could swing both ways without straining credibility.

Yeah, this argument is pretty silly.  I've played a M!Shep who romanced no one in either game because he's waiting for the right man to come along.  Posted Image  Hopefully ME3 will see him happy.

There are PAGES of PAGES of debates refuting this over and over again. Shep not being able to bone men doesn't make him straight, it just makes him unluckly. By this logic, there would be ALOT less GLBT people in the world.

**** continuity... the freedom of gameplay prevail much more. And actually having the right to bone a Men as a men is a part of the freedom of gameplay. it is not gross or something, You can avoid it if you don't want to listen to it nor see it...

What can you say about my game ? I'm a femshep who boned Liara, so I proved I'm a lesbian ! Why the hell can't I bone Tali ?

Oh, are you socialising with a lot of people, but you don't see yourself flirting with any of your friends of the opposite sex?

Message to everyone: The troll is reported and a PM send to Mr. Priestly with a request to remove them. Please to not discuss them any further in the thread so that it does not go off topic.

On topic:
the continuity argument is especially pointless, because FShep can tell Liara in ME1 that she is not into girls yet has no second thought on sleeping with Kelly.

That's... something I hadn't thought of.

Not my point. ManShep not being able to bone other guys in the game isn't an excuse to say that he isn't/can't be gay.

Edit: I just realised I might have misunderstood your post entirely. For the record, I agree with you. This post is just elaborating my thoughts/

This is a semantic argument, I think. Right up to the point where Shepard says "I'm only interested in [gender x]", s/he's a blank canvas.

So far - aside from that cut scene for mShep, and femShep's conversation with Liara (she has the same dialogue about only being interested in men) - this hasn't happened.

That isn't to say it couldn't happen, and if Bioware said tomorrow that Shepard was a galaxy-saving, all-American badass heterosexual white male with a beard, we'd just have to accept that. But I don't appreciate the intellectual shallowness of claiming one gender of character is pre-defined and one isn't.

To rephrase: up to and until we hear otherwise, arguing for m'm and f/f romances for Shepard is perfectly reasonable, given that the option is open to both characters to be interested in a same-sex relationship in the absence of choices or dialogue that say otherwise.

One other thing: Game Informer's most recent podcast makes me even more inclined to think that the concept art we saw for 'James Sanders' is actually Kai Leng. Were this the case, I wouldn't be so surprised if Sanders was just a red-shirt character in the same vein as Jenkins, or, for that matter, Nihlus. I could be wrong, though.
