You know, all of these people protesting the "all bi" option for fear that they'll be drowned by attention leads me to think it's not something they deal with in their daily lives. People flirt, especially when there's nothing to do but drink, kill, and f*ck. It's quite logical that people would welcome a different way to kill time in-between fights.

no. its more the fact they'd be radically changing established characters. but i guess people dont want to keep the integrity of characters when it suits their agenda. so garrus is bi now completely out of the blue? it completely goes against the mentor type relationship/friendship that garrus and male shepard have established over two full games.

So true, a student has never admired a teacher in a romantic or sexual sense. It's practically unheard of. Imagine having a character like Garrus who abandoned his whole life to follow this man across the galaxy, became heralded as a hero, and tried to accomplish the same on his own only to find himself in the company of the same teacher, giving him purpose once again. Nope, nothing romanticized about their meeting ever, you win.

yeah sure, lets ruin their friendship dynamic. thats awesome.

Isn't that the fun of an rpg? In one playthrough, they'll be friends, in another they'll be involved, or friends that had one sexual encounter. You can still be friends with him, while someone else's shepard rubs his 5 o'clock shadow against his exoskeleton.

Oh, dear.  Such steamy imagery.  Lets keep the provacative language to a minimum here.  ;)

Oh I could cause everyone's monitor's to fog with condensation if I so desired. Perhaps something with Shepard and Jacob, along with an ex-salarian spy who allowed his scientific curiosity get the better of him.

Would the ex-salarian be the narrator? That's actually a nice choice for a pov character. Makes it easier to write coherent action scenes and--Oh My Lord I'm contemplating writing Mass Effect fan fiction what have you done?!

Well, you said it yourself that it "depends on the person".

And yes, sometimes they do, but not always.

I might be in the minority, but I think a sexual undertone wold cheapen the relationship between Garrus and ManShep.

What happened with pure friendship?

How does it "Cheapen" it outside of simply adding a different layer of interaction between the two characters.  Sure,  sexual overtones might not mesh well with some peoples perception of friendship yet I find no reason why it ruins it particularly if said tension begins with Shepherd flirting with Garrus.

Well Mordin likes to... observe it helps his research if he's only allowed to examine the exchange without interrupting his subjects. He does it out of scientific curiosity

So it's settled then, yes? Jacob and Shepard cooling down after a workout and Mordin taking notes on the process.

You know, there's a lot of talk of human on any alien, but what about Grunt and Mordin? A well seasoned professor working to soothe an angry young mind. Showing him that his frustration stems from his ignorant nature, so it's up to the good doctor to educate him.

Well then perhaps Liara and Tali is more to you're taste. Using her psychic mind to entrance a quarian more deeply than any nerve stimulation program ever could.

Personally, I thought that Garrus being interested in romance at all - with Shepard or otherwise - felt out of character. He just didn't seem like that kind of person in the first game. I reckon that if you take Garrus along to see General Septimus in Chora's Den about the Consort, Garrus is all like: "You'd get like this over a GIRL? LOOOOOOOOSEEEEEEERRRRRR...!"

I think it fits Garrus's character more to just remain a good friend of Shepard's, male or female.

Well, I think the way they handled it in game made a lot of sense.  Garrus is very 'practical' about it imo.  Sure its awkward as all hell but it not like Garrus is falling all over you, composing love poems.  I don't want to get into spoilers though.  Sufice it to say I think it was handled about the only way it could be handled.

Compare it to, say, Tali's romance.  Or Jacob.  Much more, 'romantic,' and 'emotional.'  There is alot of infatuation there.  With Garrus it's more of an 'experiment.'  Its a kind of 'yeah, sure why not?'  Instead of 'I want you Shepard!'

Or.  You know.  'The priiiize.'

Ok so diving back in here after an absence. I think I'll chime in with some half baked opinions. Making every romance bi simply seems odd to me, to me sexuality is an important facet of their identity, making everyone the same cheapens things and robs some individuality from the npc's. I'd feel much the same if they made every Normandy crew member male, or caucasin.

That said I have no problems with gay or bi characters romancable in the ME series. Oh and another thing I like having characters that hit on you, having everyone again being all demure and waiting on Shepherd to make his/her move is unrealistically uniform. Some people are forthright and others are reserved I like to see a variety of both. To those who would have a problem with a same gendered character hitting on "your" Shepherd, grow up and join us in the 21st Century, it's nice and friendly here honest.

You'd think they would have a better idea for not involving homosexuality other than claming it was for the sake of their raiting. (While DA is aimed at the same people, yet it has everything in it.) Something along the lines of "to extend our humanity (which is very important in ME), we need to reproduce and create offsprings thus hetero relations are considered the most common, while homosexual are not frowned upon, they are still unusual to see." would make some sense.
