Oh really? But this is an RPG, you play the role of what you want to play. You play as a straight Shepard, go ahead, nothing will stop you. You won't even see the homosexuality if you don't want to, so why would you care? Those that do want a gay Shepard, can and should be able to pick that route.
Also, does this mean alien on human sex is more appealing than homosexuality? Really? 'Cuz they certaintly included that. Sorry but in the real world...If you think having sex with an alien is "okay" ...Then, something is wrong. (Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the thought of it in ME)

Right, and I suppose the violence, bloodshed, drug use, implied rape, graphically-depicted insanity and vows of mass genocide are perfectly acceptable for children, then?

You have the right to an opinion, and thanks for being honest and civil.
A few things though. I can't see how including homosexuality in a video game is any worse for children than giving them the option to...
- carry out torture
- murder an entire species, multiple times
- enjoy heterosexual relationships with a maximum of four or five different partners over two games
- enjoy inter-species sex with four different alien races
- enjoy a lesbian relationship as femShep with Liara or Kelly Chambers
- wage interstellar war against a race of sentient machines bent on the horrific destruction of all humanity. complete with scary cutscenes
One more thing: this group isn't 'forcing' anything, it's a polite suggestion. How Bioware chooses to implement - or not - anything they decide is their perogative.

Wouldn't it just open their eyes to acceptance a bit? Games should push the envelope as an interactive, visual medium, much like movies or novels.
They should also be enjoyable by as many different people as possible, not just one specific group.
HO LAWD! The children might sympathise with homosexuals! BADS.
That's totally worse than them being constantly exposed to Miranda's bum, mind.
Sorry, but that is what you lot sound like.

I've been thinking about homosexuality in the Mass Effect series. I'm interested to see what we find in the world of Mass Effect 3.
There have been many discussions over homosexuality in Mass Effect. From many man-hours of typing and arguing, we can distill several ideas.
There is resistance to making currently-existing characters gay.
There is concern that such a change could derail the characters. Some have said that making a character gay would be a sudden turn, a unwanted jibe. Some have said that Shepard himself (I am not discounting FemShep - most of this debate has focused on the sexuality of Male Shepard since he is the default). They have said that Shepard has been cast already, that no matter what, he would never seek a relationship with another man.
I believe these arguments have merit, and I believe they warrant consideration.
I've spent a long time thinking about making a character gay 'derailing the character'. Yet the sexuality of characters has changed - Garrus is open to a relationship with FemShep, and Tali's interest in Male Shepard has grown far more obvious than in ME1. This interest, this newfound realization they have had after their time with Shepard - this was not a function of their initial programming. There has been an obvious change here.
I have realized that the concern is not with the sexuality of the character, the concern is with the character themself.
There is a concern that the character is influenced by the sexuality. There are those who would ignore the actions, and only focus on the peripheral sexual interest. There are those that would claim that a homosexual Garrus would lose his ability to scope and drop, there are those that would have us believe that a gay crewmember aboard the Normandy would flounce around in a tutu, drinking appletinis and giggling like a putz.
There are those who say Shepard's identity has been engraved in stone - that Shepard, despite all the choices he shall make, could not ever choose to love a man. This is the Shepard that can arrive to the galaxy as savior or scoundrel - the Shepard that can bring salvation or destruction. This is the Shepard that can destroy an entire race, a Shepard that can overthrow the government of an entire galaxy. This is a Shepard that can inflict her will upon the universe as the dialogue wheel sees fit.
Except in bed.
Shepard does not have unlimited choice - Shepard is ultimately plagued with being a video game character. This is not a tabletop RPG - we do not exist in a world of unlimited choice. At some point, the dialogue wheel must be loaded with every option Shepard can choose from.
These options are colored by our own judgement. Shepard cannot murder a child, Shepard cannot let Sovereign win. Shepard cannot love another man.
These options we give Shepard - these are ultimately a product of our own social ideals. I do not let the ideals of 19th Century Western Europe government my life. I do not let the ideals of a generation long dead govern my life.
We will be long buried by the time Shepard walks. Yet we are so arrogant to decree that we may dictate the course of his life. We have not given him every option, we have let our judgement, our ideals, our nature cloud his.
We have committed the great sin of character derailment.
Mass Effect 3 may not have homosexual relationships - I am not sure which game will be the first.
But if it is not ME3, what will it be? Do not doubt - there will come a day when a game features a same-sex LI.
How will the humans of 2183 remember us - will they remember the ME series as the game that took a chance - that rolled the dice? Or will it simply fade into the white noise of our generation - will it not be remembered for taking a chance.
I am not writing to demand that BioWare make a current squadmate gay, I am not writing to demand that BioWare make Shepard gay.
I am writing to request that BioWare make ME3 sexuality-agnostic. There is no Canon Shepard, they say. Shepard may be male or female, paragon or renegade, white or black. Shepard may find love with human or alien - but only if his partner is female. Is it not absurd to conclude that while Shepard may find love with another species, that a male member of his own is too alien? Is it not absurd to conclude that no matter how open-minded Shepard may act, that she is never open to same-sex romance?
I do not believe that all characters should be gay.
I do not believe that Shepard's sexuality should be defined either way.
I believe only in a world of choice.

This. All This. It's not just that you can go anywhere on the sexual spectrum with Femshep while Manshep can't for some unexplained reason.

Your whole post was excellent, but I just had to repost this bit because of how much I agree with it. It is indeed absurd that Shepard can have a potential relationship with all sorts of aliens, but the same sex of the same race (especially for maleShep) is going too far? It is utter lunacy. And it's very true that Shepard's sexuality shouldn't be defined, because - like romance in general - it's part of optional content, so having a set sexuality doesn't add anything to the main story, it just satisfies those who are terrified of catching 'teh gay' just because it's available... even though it's just as available in real life, yet they haven't been 'turned'.
But yes, marvellous points there.

Kids SHOULD see same sex relationships in games and the media. They shouldn't see sex scenes, but that goes for heterosexual sex as well. Given how uncommon homosexuality is, I think gay kids grow up alone and with enough negative reinforcement as it is. If all children were brought up seeing it as ok threads like these wouldn't have to exist.
Peace
I absolutely approve of this post.

If a parent is letting young children play mature-rated games that have murder, genocide, Ardat-Yakshi (basically, sex-vampires), strippers, drugs and A FINAL BOSS MADE OUT OF LIQUIFIED PEOPLE (AND YOU WITNESS A PERSON BEING LIQUIFIED) that parent needs to be fired.
And what makes you think a homosexual relationship is a bad thing for a kid to see? The screen fades to black, and if it didn't, heterosexual sex isn't a better thing for kids to be watching either.
And if they did see it, that means the kid was probably pursuing the LI.

I am definitely not a homophone. I don't sound like anyone else.
M-For-Mature Game = Not For Children.
Concept of homosexuality = not harmful to children.
Therefore, the inclusion of homosexual content should not be excluded on this basis. Especially since, you know, it's already IN the first two games. Why are so many people dead set on keeping Manly Man Shepard from getting some Manly Man Manlove? I'm sorry, but "won't somebody think of the children?" ain't gonna fly.
I gotta tell you, DA2 has really set a new standard as far as I'm concerned. I love that my Good Girl Mage got to have a sweet, monogamous relationship with Anders, that my Cool Guy Mage got to have a sweet, monogamous relationship with Anders, that my Crazy Pro-Templar Blood Mage Girl was able to sleep with Isabela, then dump her for Merrill, whom she sees as a plaything, and that my Honest Guy Warrior got to sleep with Isabela, flirt with Anders, but ultimately tell him that he would really rather be with Isabela for real, when Anders wanted to "have something deeper". So many options, and so many different combinations. I love options and combinations!

You clearly don't realise how many youths there are who question themselves. Seeing such a thing depicted normally, like it's not something to be hidden or excluded on purpose, might help quite a lot in feeling okay with themselves.
There are 13-17 year old kids who go about on gay youth sites for help.
I was raised with a gay uncle, who has a husband whom he loves. No one pointed it out or deliberately talked to me about it like it was note worthy. It was normal so it shouldn't have to be mentioned on purpose.
I was about oooh, 11 or so, maybe younger when I saw him hugged from behind by said husband - who I took to calling "Auntie Danny" - and be given a sweet kiss. It dawned on my young mind that they were together like that. And nothing happened. I didn't burst into flames or run away crying in confusion and fear. I mentally shrugged after smiling about my uncle being happy and went back to playing with my bionicles.
It's the adult and parental reaction more than anything else that dictates just how "badly" a child will be effected by something.
Like the Janet Jackson "incident." It was just a boob. Yet parents freaked out and acted like it was a horrible scarring thing; so children react accordingly because they learn by example from their parents.
You see?

The kids who are playing Mass Effect (and are unable to buy the game themselves due to the M rating) are probably at that stage where these sexuality questions are coming up. What difference does it make that Shepard loves another man? If you want to get religious, is that not what God wanted? Suggesting that God would rather have one of his children unhappy because he found no happiness in the arms of a woman? Nevertheless, what I wouldn't want is for a homosexual love interest to be shoe horned like an after school special. In mainstream, I would rather the subject to be slided in gracefully and not like a hammer to the head.

Thanks :3 I kind of miss those toys. I also played with dinosaurs
My mother wanted to get me a doll because, in her sweet way teaching me "she needs to learn about caring for things." First doll I got I accidentally left in school over summer holiday; and didn't so much as blink. She gave up after that and just got me the toys I actually played with

Oh man did that make me laugh... someone else, I can't remember, made a comment about how most of the target audience will have only recently in their short lives stopped "sucking on one" - so the sight of a partially covered boob can't be all that "scarring" for them. Besides, wasn't she wearing like a skin-coloured cloth thing under her dress? So she was covered anyway.
