I can see how it can play into the background setting of ME a bit; like certain species who put greater emphasis culturally towards breeding like Salarians with the whole family mandated contracts, Krogans with the whole fertility thing or Quarians "single children families" rule; which could account for as you say,"hesitation" to some extent, I guess. if you really want to justify it. Then again, you probably can't have children cross species unless there's some weird test tube technology in the future involved.

But yes, people put too much emphasis on sex, and I want to state, is a really bad basis to build any relationship upon. Just saying'

I really like the separation of flirtation and romance dialog from the dialog as well; +2

The Flirt/Romance dialogue wheel option does sound good. And it avoids any issue with coloured dialogue that might seem out of place, too heavy handed, or be perceived as an automatic 'win' of sorts (like the Paragon/Renegade options sometimes do).

The only downside with the dialogue compromise options is that they require BioWare to put more resources into developing their dialogue trees, which I think a lot of people would favour anyway. Also, there's nothing saying that all flirtation/romance dialogue has to end up with a 'win'...I'd like to see more characters like Samara, who shut Shep down. (Though without the caveat, 'I'd do you if only I were 600 years younger.')

If the flirt dialogue options run parallel to inquisitive/friendly I'd be for it as that means more options more ways to play.

I've added both suggestions to the OP. I believe the extra flirt wheel is suggestion 7. Did I explain it properly, MarchWaltz? Anything else you'd like to add?

The separate wheel for romances is the same to me as the text color. Both are good ideas imo. It helps prevent accidental romance.

The Duncan avatars are breeding like rabbits :D

I also think the 'Flirt/Romance' wheel idea is fantastic - and probably relatively easy to implement, as well. +10 support (I think)

Having the flirt lines on a seperate wheel that you acces by picking [flirt] in normal conversations is a great idea, maybe they could even go back to the old BG2 style romances so that flirting in a wrong way could destroy the romance. Also having the romance seperate from the character development like DA or ME1 is definatly something they should do in ME3 again. In ME2 with some characters you actually miss most (or even all) character development if your Shepard is the wrong sex and/or unwilling to sleep with an LI and I hope that they dont make the same mistake in ME3.

Mmm I agree completely with everything you said.

I agree that a "Flirt..." dialogue subsection is a good idea. While it helps solve the "accidental romance" concerns some have expressed, it also has potential for opening up some breadth in how one plays a romance. I agree that some choices should put off a potential paramour, and I'd welcome watching some characters turn Shepard down.

I will say that I think the Flirt Dialogue Wheel option shouldn't stop other characters from flirting with Shepard, though. The actions of the NPCs shouldn't be contingent upon Shepard always making the first move. Of course Shepard can either Flirt/Romance or Not Interested to shut it down, but with some characters it probably should take a couple of those refusals for them to get the message. Basically I don't think there should be a one-size-fits-all approach to romance OR friendship dialogue.

Failure at romance is always a good thing;

Make peace with the geth, Tali dumps you. It will be glorious.

I've always been a supporter of more defined flirt dialog. And of characters making the first move. Like Liara or Zevran. Yay for active love interests.

If I got a (kiss her/him) option I would be overjoyed with extreme excitement! And then die because my head exploded. ;)

DA:O did it. I don't know why they couldn't implement it into another game. If my FemShep could randomly kiss Liara       () her life would be complete. B)

Let's just admit it. Who doesn't want Shepard's life to be complete?

Hugs would be nice too, and more meaningful in my opinion.

Most races, humans, asari, salarians, krogan,  drell; you can kiss cause they have lips. But quarians: do you kiss through the helmet? and turians: they have sharp teeth and no visible lips.
