Funny, during the last Same Sex Romance Discussion coloured dialogue was the prefered option, just like the Paragon or Renegade options. On the other hand the TOGGLE was mostly unwanted. I had the idea about a "Sexual preference box". During character creation you would have to decide which gender, skin colour, etc. Shepard has. Simply put "sexual preference" as an additonal option on the character creator. Options: Hetero; only NPCs of the opposite sex are romanceable. ******: only NPCs of the same sex are romanceable. Bi: Every NPC is romanceable. That way there wouldn't be any "accidents".

I like that idea as well.  Then my FemShep doesn't have to worry about romancing one of the males.  :wizard:

Heck, I'd take anything as long as they implement it :D

Woah! Just had a thought, if same sex romances are unlocked, when Shep is just trying to be a good friend/he or she uses paragon dialogue, will the now potential LI get the wrong idea.

Welcome to my world. The first time I played ME2 I ended up romancing every damn woman on the ship. It was not fun.

Have any of you guys read the Suggestion section? (3rd post)

I know color text was recommended but what about 3 where basically you choose a crush and if you choose no crush then no one of the same sex hits on you...for those of you a bit more skittish with the whole idea of a "bro" hitting on you.

I say lets give this topic some respect. The op clearly spent time in creating an intelligent, well thought out post. I have always pushed for more realistic and mature content in ME3. This includes same sex romance options. And I know Bioware is up to the task.

And thanks for all for positive comments on the OP, now if only we can keep it alive for longer than the other one. :pinched:

Oh look, it's this thread!  The OP is looking great, and it's all so... civil!  :o:D:wub:  Good work!

I remember being pretty certain (esp. after DA:O came out) that ME2 would go all the way with m/m and f/f romances, so it was pretty disappointing to learn that lesbian femSheps only have Kelly and that, worse yet, gay maleSheps have no one at all... in 1 or 2.

I honestly think (yay optimism!) that the non-Virmired ME1 human romanceable will reappear in ME3 as an option for both genders, but that would still leave girls with three same-sex options, and guys with only one--one which, furthermore, requires playing through the entire series, as the game defaults to your Shep saving the opposite sex companion.  So, no.  Not fair at all.  There definately needs to be more options in ME3, or at least an ME2 Romance DLC that carries over into 3.

One hint to keep this thread alive: learn to ignore trolls. Frankly, this wasn't done so well in the last one. I'm guilty of feeding trolls myself, so I speak from experience.

Semi random question since I was about to leave Liara for Samara. Was it ever said in the game how old Samara was in ME2 or how long her "duty" lasts.

How for this would any of you be for either the fem or male shep?  Also, in former topics of this kind I know I saw some requests for that soilder in the book to be introduced in the game.  Hinder?  Hendel?  Something like that.  Do any of you m/m shippers have random requests of types of ppl you'd like to see or not see?  I know we have some strong haters of a Zeveran type (I personally liked him but hey)

Samara? Hell why not? Samara's a MILF don't care if she's entered the Matriarch stage or not.

@ Sw33ts, I think that would be awesome to see Hendel in ME3! Maybe even as the m/m option. He's not completely, new, so he'd be a familiar face, well, to those who have read the book. but he would be new to the games, so they wouldn't have to worry about how to implement this option with a former squadmate.

Speaking as a purely heterosexual male, I personally think it makes sense that there should be a same sex option for Male Shepard. I mean why not? I think it's only fair....so, if it's not added in as DLC, then here's hoping it happens in ME 3.

And if it is added, there's nothing forcing someone to pursue the same sex romance options.

Sorry if I seem like I'm rambling. I may not play same sex romances, but I do support it for Mass Effect.

Something I have not seen said before (or maybe it has but I have not noticed) and then I go back to my lurking-position.

Gay-possibility is not only for those who are gays in real life. I'm a heterosexual woman and and all my characters are males, and I don't like to make expections to that rule. I don't care how weird this is and how much a freak it makes me, but I just feel more comfortable as a male in games, and I know I'm not the only one. And, I like to watch men, why I would want to watch a woman who does not please my eye for 30+ hours (in DAO countless hours)?

Here is just one example why: I played as a femShep one playthrough just so I can romance Thane (thought: well, killing is killing no matter genre, so I make this one woman for a good cause). I find Thane to be my favorite team mate in every way, in ship and in battle, and I drag him with me everywhere. So what does this woman I made do? She autoflirts with Jacob, right front of my eyes, witch by the way almost exploded. I could not talk to Jacob at all in that playthrough. This is just one example of why I don't like to play as a female: devs always manage to make females something I don't like, someting I don't feel comfortable with and something I just can't relate to. They always act the way I don't want them to act. I often find females look ridicilous too, though not in ME2 (I leave Miranda out from this, I don't have to play as a Miranda. I just don't talk to her more than I have to).

But when possible, my men are always gays. Obvious, I'm heterosexual and I like to watch men. I'm romantic too, and romances are great fun. But in this example, none of women are something I want my men to romance, but there are Garrus and Thane...and Kaidan of course. So...what I do? Use countless hours to find out ways to get my men to romance other men. I edit saves, I suffer the clay faces and female voice in important convos, just to get the few final encounters to be how I want them to be. I think my men deserve the best!

For me, if I want to romance Thane or Garrus, the answer is not to make a female Shepard. Romance takes only half on hour of the game, but I have to watch and listen the femShep the whole game. I don't want to. I want to watch and listen the maleShep. But I want to romance Thane too ( I did Garrus already, great fun).

But of course there is lesbians in game (and that crap about Asaris is just crap, they are made to look females just to please men), and they are not there to make lesbians happy. They are there to make men happy. So, if a man plays as a femShep, he does not have to romance other men but can still have females. It would be terrible to make men feel uncomfortable. I feel uncomfortable if I have to romance women, or if my femShep autoflirts with Jacob 'cos devs thought Jacob to be the ultimate thing for women (and failed, badly)

And why to make gay relationships so damn difficult? Every romance with every character could be written to match with any Shepard. Every romance could have two paths, gay and straight. Romance would be always be the same, convos the same, just few genre checks in convos if necessary, I don't even demand them. As far as I care, genre checks should be removed. No big hassle. And before someone says "but Jacob/Kaidan/whoever is straight", yes, he would be in your game. In my game he would be something else. In RL I know couples who have fallen love to eachother and genre had nothing to do with it.

This was my two cents, back to lurking.

You seem to enjoy the Dragon Age games well enough, so it can't be that much of a bother.

I support this 150%

Lack of same-sex romances in ME2 is why my FemShep remained loyal to Liara. I'm a guy, and while I do like to play RPG's as both male and female protagonists, I still make most of the decisions I'd make if I were in the same situation, and hitting on a guy... sorry, can't do it.

I'm really curious what caused the people in charge to make the decision to cut out the same sex romances. From what I read on page 1, they were meant to be included (at least some of them), even having the actors record some of the lines. This means that at one point someone came in and said "Ok guys, today's agenda, we're cutting out the same sex romances from the game". That's not cool IMO. If they're affraid of offending someone (though I doubt it ~looks at Dragon Age~), it would be a simple matter of having a checkbox at the character creation screen. "Same sex romances enabled"

Here's to hoping someone someday does something to fix this, be it via user created mod, DLC or even expansion pack.

And, and here's to definitely hoping they don't pull the same trick in ME3.

Explain something to me then (and I ain't trying to be rude or to mock or anything, I'm honestly just curious).

Does simply the fact that the possibility exist bother you, or does it bother you if witness some hint at a same-sex relationship (like Zev hitting on the Male Warden in DA)? If there was an option to turn same-sex relationships (or one of the other suggestions for avoiding these relationships) on or off before the game even started, would you still have issue with it?

Again I say, not mocking, just curious.

@TaHol

Yeah, I noticed the thing you mentioned about Jacob. Every single time my FemShep says "I'm just interested in talking for a bit" her voice tone says "I'm shamelessly flirting with you, ar you gonna hit on me or what?". Not cool.

Just thought I'd drop into this new thread to show my support.

As has been said - some way of telling the game what your Shepard's sexuality is would be great - that way the people who want the content can have it, and those that don't won't be "exposed" to it - which seems to be their biggest fear.

Keep on fighting, guys - ME3 will probably be the last chance we get to declare our Shepards' sexuality.
