Have any of you guys read the Suggestion section? (3rd post)

I know color text was recommended but what about 3 where basically you choose a crush and if you choose no crush then no one of the same sex hits on you...for those of you a bit more skittish with the whole idea of a "bro" hitting on you.

The way I see it with your suggestion of the "crush system", I hope I didn't get it the wrong way, is that you have to decide from the very beginning which character you want to romance. Let's say someone plays Mass Effect 2 for the first time and hasn't played Mass Effect 1 at all. He chooses Jack as a crush, but during the game he realizes that he likes Miranda a lot more. In that case he would have to start the game from the very beginning. Or he chooses Ashley. That's even worse because all he will get ar 3 minutes of dialogue and that's that.

On the other hand, if you could choose your crush during the game it could work, but that's pretty much the same as the "picture frame system" which sounds diffcult to implement in the game. That and it makes it impossible to change your mind or watch another scene like in Mass Effect 1 when Kaiden and Liara both believe that you are in love with one of them.

The suggestion with Mordin is unnecessary if BioWare makes same sex romance possible for Mass Effect 3. Why the extra work? And the suggestion with the 2 extra NPCs which both should be ****** or at least bisexuall sounds interesting but is so much more work compared to simply remove the gender check and reimplement bisuexuall squad members.

So no gender check and bisexuall squad members sounds like the best and cheapest solution, but because a few people feel uncomfortable with homosexuality coloured texts (indicating romance dialogue) and/or a "sexual preference check" during character creation makes it save enough for them to enjoy game without accidentally triggering a romance dialogue they didn't want. And it gives us the freedom to play the game like we want.

I don't support ****** relationships. So no, keep it out of my games.

I'll give you a chance to elaborate. Do you consider yourself part of a demographic which has more right than any other to enjoy BioWare's games?

Hmm, gays cannot play Mass Effect 2 or something?

With those limp wrists!? How are they supposed to work the controls?
(kidding, kidding, sorry but it was such a great opening ... you'll note my previous posts support the idea whole heartedly)

What about the 360 version? Could just set down the controller and dangle their fingers over the controls.

(You folks know I'm on your side, the mental image was just too good to not get in on this. I'll stop. Promise.)

Let's try to stick to a topic of discussion here. Uhm...

If you could choose one, which current character would you like to(Or wouldn't) be made available for homosexual romances?

Jack.

I was genuinely surprised and disappointed when my FShep got spurned.

Miri, I thought she was sexy and intelligent......My Shep keep going to her office just to look at her.

She didn't have much to say though, even as a friend......tis a pity!

Jack was alright, and certainly the one character I had most certainly expected to be bi - especially considering she says as much at one point - so when she later told me she wasn't into girl games I was utterly confused.

But I would much rather have Tali, as I mentioned in a previous post. She is just the sweetest thing and whether my Fem Shep ever gets to have a relationship with her or no, she'll always be my character's secret crush. (or not so secret if the chance ever does eventually present itself)

Yes, let's turn straight characters into gays just because fanbase wills it. After all it's not like their sexual orientation is a part of them, no, they are all bi deep down, they just don't know it yet.

She was a little too full of herself for me, I think ... though nice to look at and listen to.  Really I'd go for any of the ladies, in the order of Tali/Miranda/Jack. (if we included the characters over both games it would be Tali/Liara/Ash/Miranda/Jack)  The guys, I was not as impressed by.  Certainly I'd romance Thane - the man was just too cool and suave - and if Joker were available I'd get cuddly with him ... but none of the others really appealed to me.  Zaeed might make for a good, rough roll in the hey, but I'd rather do that as a female than a guy. (for that matter I think the only male on the ship I'd go for as a man would be Thane)

Garrus wasn't bad in this one, but he rubbed me the wrong way in the first game, so I could never get close to him.

I'd have no problems with this. Didn't bother me in DA:O, just told Zevran I wasn't interested.

So good luck guys. :)

I think it's more of the player who is gay....as a lesbian game player I would like the option to choose someone that would be more to my liking, just as any player would, why should I have less choice than you. If you don't like a certain romantic option.....DON"T CHOOSE IT!

So tell me, how would you like it if Bioware suddenly decided that Liara should be heterosexual, to avoid further bad press?

That is exactly what I am against. Chaging established characters into what they are not for no reason.

The thing is... very little has been definitively established about the sexual orientation of many of them.

Making Liara strictly hetero would take away options, not give more options.  I support more options for all players regardless of orientation.

But that's the thing, though. It's not quite established. Merely... ignored.
And besides, they're not really gay until you make it so. I mean, you don't HAVE to infatuate everyone. In one playthrough, this person's straight and in the other they're not. It'd pretty much be your choice.
We just want possibilities. You're free to ignore their existance.

It's much nicer to have too much rather than too little choice.

If you played ME2 as Fem Shep, there were absolutely NO love interests for her as a lesbian, it should have been available in the game. I do not want to change characters, but I want to be able to play the game and enjoy it as a role playing game of my Choosing, not one that has already been pre-determined by BW and the homophobes.

So sexual preference is a light switch and when you like someone you can just turn them over? No, it's a part of ones character as much as their likes and dislikes are. If every single character's traits depend on your playstyle then none of those characters are established and as a result you have a wishy-washy story that makes no sense.

Shepard: Hey Garrus I heard you're gay?

Garrus: You know it, wanna hook up?

Shepard: No thanks, I'm good.

Garrus: Oh ok, nevermind.

Shepard: Wait I changed my mind.

Garrus: Too late, I'm not gay anymore.

There were also no love interests for a gay male either. If you really want a game that isn't pre-determined by Bioware and if you can't enjoy a game without gay sex then maybe ME2 isn't for you.

Was that in any way responding to what I said about sexual preferences being ignored rather than determined?
It's just elaborating on your previous claim, but we already got your point and I responded to it.
We're trying to have a somewhat light-hearted but still serious discussion here, but if all you're going to do is repeat yourself, it's not helping your case. And I think it's considered spam to a lesser extent.

Perhaps you misunderstood a part of my post, though? Should I explain it to you a little bit more properly?

Errrr...we are trying to have our say and perhaps they will listen, I hate when someone uses the arguement "then maybe ME2 isn't for you"......I paid my money, I enjoy the game and I wish to have more enjoyment in the future if possible, I think it can be done, it was done in Dragon Age and I have not heard an uproar about it.....we are here darling, whether you like it or not!

First, the romances don't affect the main story...they are sidequests that add to player enjoyment and give the player a sense of customization and uniqueness for their Shepard.  The same can be said for military background/Shepard's personal history, the moral choices Shepard makes in game, etc.  Whether or not you puch the reporter doesn't effect the story but just gives the player another opportunity to define and customize their character and their gaming experience.  Having choices that affect side-quests or the Shepard you play (not the main story) is what makes RPGs fun.  People like customization and the sense that they are playing their story.  If they didn't, they'd read a book where eveything is spelled out for them by the author, or they'd play non-RPG games.

Second, while sexual orientation isn't a light switch, this isn't real life, or a more limiting type of gaming story.  Again, it's (supposedly) an RPG where the player can have control over how their character's story unfolds.  Allowing the gamer more options for player customization adds to the fun and replayability of these types of games.
