How long/difficult is Overlord?

Given the number of synthetics and how their armour, damage and general level of being a pain in the ass really ramps up with difficulty (especially starting at hardcore), it really depends on your difficulty setting.  As such, the length is just as dependent on difficulty.

i havent played it yet so can some one please give me a positive and honest rate & review of the DLC. please rate it (1,2,3,4,5,.0) out of 5, and how long is this game, also give me your thoughts of the graphics and the planet. (no spoilers)

How bad is the Hammerhead combat...how much of it is there? Is it so frustrating that it ruins the DLC?

The Hammerhead combat seems to be mostly optional, as you'll explore the hub and run into some turrets and mechs

5/5 by far the best dlc yet.  For me at least the atmosphere drew me in immediately.  The level design felt very good and had more open spaces.  i played though as a soldier on normal and it took about 2 hours.  I was nervous about the hammerhad (hated the firewalker pack) but it was used very well and actually enjoyed it.   Combined the best of ME1 and ME2 imo.

On a side note it could have used more character dialogue, but i understand why they didnt.

I enjoyed it.  Was a good bit of fun.  I must say that I wish you would put more Squad Interaction into DLC.  One of the reasons ME trumps so many other games is you really come to love the characters like a good book.  I miss having fun interaction during a mission with them.

My PC version crashes at the start of Prometheus station every time.

Can get no further.

Hammerhead is a cartoony afterthought vehicle, and has not improved any from it's original mission pack.  It really needs some help.

I'm rather upset that my DLC is DOA.  It started out well, but since I can  not go any further it was a waste of money.

I'd say 4/5, they branch out a little and try some new things, but the awkward muted scenes bring down the score

6/5 for the end though, I think thats my favorite non-suicide mission ending of a mission yet in ME2, it was amazing

It took me 2 1/2 hours as a lvl 30 vanguard on normal. Really liked it. Understand about the lack of squad comments, sad but, you're not gonna get that voice cast back for a $5 DLC. Slightly preferred Kasumi - only because of her and the party was different - more my kinda thing. But Overlord still 5/5 for me. Cannot wait to see this level of polish in bridging DLC. Bring on bridging DLC please.

It was worth the price imo. No real complaints, although I will say that the constant horrible screeching of the rogue VI grated on my nerves a bit (and it was so loud I kept having to turn my speakers down). Other than that, it would've been nice to get another weapon or armor piece for my troubles, but it was an enjoyable little diversion for a few hours.

PROS: Satisfyingly creepy.
Excellent level design.
Much better missions for the Hammerhead: Less "gamy" with better use of the vehicle's attributes.
Nice boss, and an ending that packs a nice dramatic punch. Very scary result if you fail, too.

CONS: Bug that crashes game if you try and take Legion on the Prometheus mission. (PC version only, I belive)
No squadmate banter.
Music is good and consistent with the rest of the soundtrack, but consists of a short track during the action that's repetitive.

Well worth the points, assuming they will fix the broken squad selection.

Seemed like they know and have heard that we were unhappy with the lack of RPG feeling in ME 2. Because the sandbox seemed to be a lot less linear and allowd you more free roam of the environment. As every one has said though of course the HH needs a lot of improvement still in my opinion. Only down sides I saw was once reached a certian part of the mission, the ending became pretty predictiable. However still i thought the ending to this DLC was much more of an emotional play through and moment than the ending of the actual main story line to ME 2, which is kind of sad. Seriously though BioWare.... please put this much effort into the rest of your DLC if there is to be anymore. Also Please put this much effort into ME 3. I have become a huge Mass Effect Universe fan, and I would hate to see a Halo 3 accident happen where it becomes a total disapointment.

Die.

sorry but it's true! star wars make no type of sense, the force sounds like a cult who want to use the power to kill which leads to the sith. yoda needs to go back to school. there is only 1 black guy. the story is just god awful, they are from the past and some what in the future. the princes leads an army with no type of militery training. luke kissed his sister. choobacka is naked, the only humans that exist are clones or jedis, darth vader is ok. but the rest of the story plot and writing is just terrible.

it does have a wide imagionation! but the scifi of that movie was non-realistic to me. thats why i prefer mass effect 1 and 2, because it's more realistic, the story is perfect the aliens sound so realistic (bioligy) they don't use lazers as much, they do have the force (biotics) but theres a reason why they have it. unlike star wars.
and mass effect AI or VI robots are WAY better than star wars robots. (but they are funny, but a waste)
mass effet has hotter aliens. the army is perfect. the story of mass effect is just BIG! and makes a hole lot of sense if you take your time to read the codex. and tali is fudgin AWESOME!!
and why couldn't yoda kill darth vader him self?Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB mass effect gets 112 and star wars get 2... for darth vader and funny silly robots!

I liked it, but then again I've liked all the DLC missions they released for ME, ME2, and DA:O. So that *was* new music, wasn't it? I thought so, but I was not sure. If it really was new music, that's the kind of nice touch that should go into DLC. My main gripe is only like 4 voice actors contributed to it (Hammerhead's VI, Archer, the Overlord, and Shepard). I think they should have gotten at least Seth Green and Cylon Starship to make some approaching-the-planet and mission-complete comments. Maybe even some "oh ****, look out commander!" remarks. That would have rounded it out nicely without requiring the 12 squadmates to all step into the studio.

My only problem with the Hammerhead is I *swear* I am not being hit and I suddenly am on fire. If an enemy is firing 15 feet to my left, I should not be on fire, right? I think what would be a good feature would be a "kinetic barrier burst" ability. That is, you press a button and it uses a slowly-recharging kinetic barrier burst to completely stop all incoming light fire for... maybe 1.5 seconds or something so you can get out of the way. Because by the time you get a warning, it's often too late. However, in this mission you could ALWAYS position yourself so that the enemy couldn't even shoot you, so I guess it was a non-issue. I just think something like that would be a good addition later...

Definitely one of the longer DLCs. Very good set pieces, interesting locales, etc.. Well done for its price. I'd be willing to pay $15 for a bigger pack that also included significant voice acting, though. Nah, forget that. Straight-up expansion this ****. ;-) But I guess that'd be hard while making DLC to keep us occupied and making ME3. :-/

Please, for the love of god fix the file import stuff, though.

chewbacca is still naked... which is weird, what happens if he gets a boner infront of liea... and the robots are retarted, and a waste of money for the enemy becuase they always loose. not all the robots i'm talking about the yellow ones. the good robots are kool but there are not alot of them. and let me say this one more time."THEY ARE FROM THE PAST (STAR WARS) BUT SOME WHAT IN THE FUTURE (THEIR TECH)" and that was just an inside joke...

as for the force... well.... um.... WHAT!?! the way of life hahaha! so every alien/human/living thing has the force... ok... thats great let them all be jefi's! (i know they have to do training)

and their is a part in the movie where liea gives advie/intel/what to do to survive, when they are at that snow planet.
and when i ment about their only being clones and jedis i ment they are the only one in the entire movie. but for get that comment.
what-a-world... does't really matter the guy told me to "die" cuz i didn't like star wars... and cuz i thought it was gay. i just felt like bashing on him. i'm not surprise your defending star wars. i find it a waste, and extremely nerdy, actully i think star trek is nerdy ass hell also.

i'm one of those people who like realistic sci-fi. not somthing they make out of their heads and comes from some fat dudes wet dream
an example of those people are: the creaters of, star wars, E.T (he's a pedo), twilight, some what of star trek, and harry potter!

but thats my opinion, it doesn't really matter... jedi's still sound like a cult and or religon, and there is still just one black guy.i like star wars... when i was 5 and got over it becuase it sounded so fake and sounded like some ones wet dream, i was the same age when i gave up power rangers!
either way don't worry about it, it's not like jar-jar is going to rape you tonight cause i think he's retarted. his speices manages to have space travel but not have good enough schools. haha!
oh and i just can't wait to get the DLC, but disapointed that there is no new conversations...Image IPB
like i said don't worry what i like. i watched all the movies, including the ones in 2005 and they still managed to suck again... and i shouldn't really be argueing about the movie becuase it was created in the 80's. so yeah.Image IPBImage IPB

That didn't happen to me.....more than once (PC version). I consistently took Legion on all the missions. The game crashed once when entering the Prometheus Station area, but after a re-load it didn't happen again. The problem seemed sound-related.

As for my opinion: I rate this DLC 4/5. Truly excellent in almost everything - mission design, story, gameplay, graphics - except that there was no squad banter. I understand why, but you do miss it a lot. The contrast to the main ME2 missions is drastic in that. It's not a minor flaw, so it goes into my overall rating. A minor flaw: the voice of the VI was jarring and too loud. SHODAN was way better ;)

Comment on the Hammerhead:
Exploration was fun. Nice open areas to explore with some varied terrain. Combat, not so much. The collection mission was OK, but the entrance to Prometheus Station was a pain, even on Casual. This thing needs better protection - what about a shield? And the biggest flaw: you still can't save.

Edit:
@century_killa: while I agree with you about SW, this is off-topic here.

I loved the environment. I don't like how I cannot exit the Hammerhead any time I want to. I liked running over the cows. I liked how well the graphics. I was also freaked out on that one part, and felt kinda sad for the brother because he was being used as something against his will, which is why I sent him to the academy.

Try using the new 1.02 patch; that might be the problem. *shrugs*

Mine crashed the first time I entered Prometheus Station, too. How odd.

What do you mean you got shot up in the entrance of Prometheus Station? You mean by the super-duper Geth cannon? I think that thing is *supposed* to one-shot you (dunno, never got hit). I thought it was awesome; one of the DLC's true highlights. You just gotta cause the cannon to shoot the shields protecting the generators then boost out of the way before it fires. Lots of fun. Or do you mean the other station that had... 1 normal turret guarding the station and 2 guarding an out-of-the-way mineral patch? Just get onto the pipes and shoot from above for the first, and jump/shoot the other two if you want the minerals. OR zoom past those two to the rocks behind w here you can shoot them from protection.

Did you download it from the DLC page, and install it, or did you just pay for it and expect it to appear as if by magic?

Agree - it's mostly precisely the contrast between the regular mission and the DLC which makes it so grating.

Re: Hammerhead. I don't like it. While I think it's conceptually cool and it handles ok, but I think it has some major drawbacks when compared to the way the Mako was implemented in ME1:

1) Lack of integration. The jump between "on-foot" and Hammerhead is often quite jarring. It strange, since it looks like you aren't even changing maps - you can occasionally see the non-Hammerhead objectives while inside it, you just need to hit the magical "press B to exit" area to leave. The Mako integration in ME1 was so seamless this feels like a huge step back.

2) Lack of HUD. Do I really need to add anything? In addition to the fragility of the thing, it's not exactly uncommon for the first sign of being under fire (and I have a 40" screen) to be when the Hammerhead bursts into flames.

3) The yellow circles and the try to hover above them mechanic. This is so arcadey I always feel like I've accidentally moved into another game. I don't toss "immersion breaking" around as lightly as a lot of people do, but this mechanic really does it for me. It's not at its worse here, as sometimes there's a clear gameworld objective within the circle, but the "draining" mechanic still seems shockingly out of place here.

Bonus: The weaponry seems to be acting significally differently from Firewalker. Is it just my imagination?

Apart from these, relatively minor, niggles I enjoyed the mission immensely. The graphical presentation is stunning (both conceptually and in-game) and the audio work (both what voice acting there is as well as sound effects - love the waterfall) is really top-notch.

The good in the pack really outweighs the bad, but I'm still unable to comprehend how people could start with the Mako gameplay and wind up with the Hammerhead one... This definitely needs a "rethunk", soon.
