I play on the 360, I didn't notice much of anything besides some odd Wall clippings and Rock formations in the ground that can be navigated through.

This is no doubt the best piece of DLC that Bioware has produced, although to be fair that's not saying much in light of certain other DLC (specifically Dragon's Age DLC).

The level design is well done and the set pieces are quite large and epic. There really wasn't a big challenge or any new enemies, although I have to say the final part is pretty awesome and the climax of the story ranks up there among the best.

The Hammerhead portions were above average ... not a whole lot of combat in the "hub" world but the environments looked very nice and there was a fair bit of variety in terms of getting around. It almost seems as if this Hammerhead DLC is actually a sneaky way to test the new vehicle for full implementation into Mass Effect 3 ... which I don't mind because the Hammerhead is a superior vehicle to the Mako, in my opinion, although it needs some work. It feels very weak and it's hard to know when you're about to die as there's no HUD indication, only a specific sound and visual damage; this isn't the best way to alert you when things are getting dicey because you're never really paying attention to the vehicle's condition in combat and the sounds of fighting tend to overlap the warning sounds.

And hey! There were Paragon/Renegade interrupts! Very nice to see. I played through this with my femShep and there is a moderate amount of dialogue, although it is still disappointing that your squadmates are pretty much silent through the entire ordeal ... surely Tali would have something to say about this Geth and VI stuff!

... of course it's not practical to bring back all the voice actors just for some DLC, but that doesn't really excuse the absence of it either. I may be out of line in saying this as I have no clue on how the video game voice acting business works, but it almost makes sense for Bioware to either (1) plan out their DLC in advance and record dialogue during principal development, or (2) schedule one or two "pickup" sessions for the voice actors to come in and do work for DLC. Again, this may not be possible given how the industry works, if Unions would allow this, etc. but it's something to think about.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this. This should be the Bioware DLC standard.

So if I’m hearing this right, again we get no new dialog from your squad mates? Is there any non-combat dialog from any of them?

Might as well be a solo game for what that’s worth. You would think that they would have learned from Bring Down the Sky and have at least thought ahead of time to record a lot of additional dialog to use in future downloads.

I'm surprised by all the positive reviews. I loved parts of it, but hated being forced through the hammerhead vehicle aerobics and would prefer no dialog to the crap that came out of my Shep's mouth. But the good parts are still there, so I was expecting about half of the people to like it and half to not.

The best part was the hammerhead vi talking about the views and that the herbivores are no match for the guided missile system

While I thought a vast majority of its content suffered from the same confined, borderline claustrophobic limitations which vanilla ME2 introduced, I was genuinely taken aback by how graphic the final set piece was. Both in visual and implied terror. A real treat; and hinted at an emotional aspect I believe ME2 sorely lacks otherwise.

So, despite the initial feeling of been-there, done-that; thumbs up.

I liked it a lot. It reminded me of how long the ME1 main missions were. I just wish it had more dialogue for Shepard and the Squadmates. The squadmates said nothing and the only person you could talk to was Dr. Archer. I liked that it focused on the crap Cerberus does to people for the "good" of humanity. I just wish I could rub it in TIM and Miranda's faces especially when they always say that "Cerberus isn't as evil as everyone says i it is".

I hope the next DLC is just as long or longer and includes more dialogue. I'd also like it if it brought armor and weapons along with it. I'm also hoping that the next DLC is related to the mercenary groups (Blue Suns, Eclipse, Blood Pack) in some way and not just having them as enemies. I'd like to be able to interact with them.

It was awesome and it is a shame that a DLC mission is quality wise above most of the ME2 (and ofc. better then the rest of ME2 DLC combined).  Can you imagine "Pinnacle Station" or "Bring Down The Sky" anywhere near Virmire or Ilos? HEEEELL NO!

I just hope they use the feedback from the fans to polish ME3 instead of releasing useless armor and new skins for garrus/thane/jack. DLC will always miss out on a lot (voice acting for instance) as it is not vital for the main story.

copy-pasting from another thread, as the two are pretty much the same

Impressions after two playthroughs.

On the positive side:

Hammerhead - Finally, that's the terrain the little guy should run on. No forced paths (except for some easy puzzles) means you don't jump because you have to, but because you can. And that makes all the difference for this vehicle. Nicely done.

Graphical desing: Excellent as always.

Combat elements: As usual. There were some interesting elements, fresh to ME2. Approved.

Music: New music theme (a bit too James Bond-ish, if you ask me) for the DLC, and a particularly breath-catching one in the ending.

Gegs and references: I won't shoot down the little cracks and jokes. :)

Being fresh: Self-explanatory. It was fresh, used a new approach, it wasn't the twelve-a-dozen mission.

And, most importantly:

Story and setting. The setting was great, (failed experiments, silent underground bases, ghost shipes and alike are always great in my books when it comes to sci-fi), the story wasn't too complicated, but worked pretty well, story building was really good.

and

The ending. The last 5 or so minutes were absolutely brilliant. Emotional where it has to be, exciting when that gains importance.

On the negative side

No squad banther (Ok, I know, it's not comfortable to catch 12 voice actors to do a session)

Not so many conversations. (But which ones were there, was written well) Could definitely use some more convos there.

Not much RPG (Well, there were some choices, still, could use more)

Verdict:

Worth buying. Definitely worth buying. If this becomes the minimal standard for DLCs, I'll jump aboard and gladly buy the following ones too. And I'm not a fan of the DLC systems around us.

Yeah squad interaction was badly lacking.  Kasumi was an excellent sort of filler epsisode because you were engaged by interesting characters the whole time.  With this it's pretty much Shep, stereotypical mad scientist #10, and Shodan's handicapped cousin.

The actual gameplay content was easily the best produced thus far, but ME2 without character interaction is at best Bioshock with extra awkward.

Wow. I mean just WOW! I was completly blown away by Overlord.

I wasn't expecting much with this to be honest. I thought it was just be another quick add on like Firewalker. Boy was I proven wrong. It was an action packed, atmospheric roller coaster and I enjoyed every bit of it. Seriously... the guys at Bioware were being generous with 560 points. This could've been an 800 or 1200. The quality is that good. :o

While the Firewalker needs some work, as mentioned above, it was still a lot of fun. Far far superior to the MAKO.

The ending was powerful. I am not afraid to admit that I was whelling up (wimp :D). I had been playing as a full Renegade through the playthrough I tried this on and I was actually sat there for a whole 2 minutes contemplating on what to do. In the end I let the cold hearted bastard that I am win through and left the poor brother with Archer. God... I feel like my soul is dying.

Wonder if Overlord will affect ME3 in anyway? :?

I only hope future DLC's will be up to this level as standard now.

EDIT: Oh yes. Bioware. PLEASE GET THIS DLC'S SOUNDTRACK OUT AS SOON AS!!! IT WAS AMAZING!!! :o

Gotta disagree here. If they charged 1200 BW points, I would expect they would have needed to add squad banter. And character-specific dialogue (i.e. Tali and Legion). And improved the Hammerhead (shields, anyone?).

Meh.

The scenery was gorgeous and it brings back an element I particularly liked about the Mako, which is the ability to drive around an environment. And it trumps the Mako segments because the environment is actually interesting to explore versus the 80 degree mountain inclines everywhere.

The Hammerhead continues to disappoint me in regards to combat. While hovercraft trumps all-terrain vehicle in terms of fun to drive around, seriously, I'm sick and tired of a simple sneeze blowing the Hammerhead all to hell. Is the thing made out of fiberglass? Did Cerberus assume the thing would never be in a situation where it'd be under fire?

As for the mission itself, I like the attempt to create more varied levels.

Figured it was yet another Cerberus mission that is all about heavy risk and a bittersweet prize. If you do the mission before recruiting Legion, then perhaps from a strictly roleplaying sense, the decision at the end is a bit more difficult to make. However, after recruiting Legion, everything the project was trying to accomplish is made moot. And true to form, even if the project ended in failure, the Illusive Man manages to salvage the remains to be used later.

I would have been pleasantly surprised if any squadmate other than Shepard had any lines during the mission. I'm surprised they even acknowledged Legion was in my squad. But it plays like Bringing Down the Sky for the most part. I think the only way we'd ever get more squad dialogue in a DLC is if we were looking at an expansion the size of Dragon Age's Awakenings or the mission was specific to a particular squad member.

I'm sure various character supporters curse the lack of opportunities to get even more pictures of certain characters standing next to a waterfall.

Anyone else determined to shoot out every single camera they could find? I wonder if there's a Camera Shy achievement.

And as someone has bound to have mentioned before, I am Shodan.

Yeah, I know!  When I saw David and Shepard said "he's coming with me"  I was like "Sweet!  There's my new crewmember!"  Then Shep said "I'm taking him to Grissom Academy" , and I was like "NOOOO!"

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. :D

It looked great, sounded great, and had a very good feel to it (oooooh doom & gloom!)

Like the rest of ME2, however, I felt that your individual squad-mates had little effect on the experience other than being your body-guards.

If Bioware somehow stumbles across this, I would suggest that making team-mates actual characters with a unique effect on the gameplay (so that we are encouraged to play through again and again with different teams) would double the enjoyment of any game, rather than having team-mates as gun-buddies only.

Influence bar simulacra in ME3? Now that would be grand!

The new DLC Overlord was released today. I just finished my first
playthrough of this long awaited DLC content My full review is below.
BEWARE MAY BE SPOLIERS.

The DLC on a overall is poor I would rate
it a 3 out of 10. You again get to control the Hammerhead tank for most
of this mission, or as I like to call it the Wussytank. As in the
Firewalker Pack the Hammerhead tank is very weak you get hit once your
dead, you get scratched your dead, and let us not forget when you are in
the tank you cannot save your game anywhere. This was a great annoyance
in the Firewalker pack, and continues in this DLC as well.

There
is not much content in this DLC you spend most of your time resuming
your last save after getting blown up in the Hammerhead tank versus
actual game content. There are few rewards for going through this DLC
you get one armor upgrade heavy skin weave 6 of 6 and thats it. There is
no new abilities, weapons, armor, squadmates, or any other upgrades.

This
is pretty much a DLC with lack of content and it is only lengthy
because of the Wussyhead Tank. On a more positive note though the story
was decent, and the voice acting as always is top knotch. The bottom
line though is this DLC worth the $7.50 for MP's, No it is not. Kasumi
stolen memories was a much better DLC and it cost less and you got more
armor upgrades, a new weapon, and a new squadmate.

It is a real
shame Bioware seems to be nickle and diming us for lackluster content.  Although most of the Hammerhead tank combat is optional in this DLC, if you are a completionist gamer like myself you have to complete it. Also at some points Hammerhead tank combat is not avoidable and unlike the Mako from ME1 where you can survive a half dozen shot till you find some cover in order to do repairs. In the Hammerhead tank you even get hit with one glancing shot and you blow up.

For a tank of any type that is unrealistic to get taken out with one shot. they should fix that in a patch, and also make it possible for you to save you game at anytime you are not in combat inside the tank.

I thought it was pretty good. The story unfolded well, and didn't end exactly how I thought it may. I was glad David wasn't mono-manical egomanic ''I am God here'' type. I thought the VA was well done, and conveyed the emotion of the characters. Shep had a couple funny lines, ''Be prepared, I wouldn't be surprised if this button summoned a Reaper''.

The level designs and 'exploration' were well done. The combat was fun, and kept me on my toes when it comes to the on foot parts.

The HH still sucks in combat. No shields, no ''health'' bar. No way to repair it rather then hide. No main gun or zoom.

The missions were a bit repetitive in nature. Go here. Kill this. Push this button.

The visual atmosphere and audio/music were great.

The morale choice at the end was very good.

The last mission showed some progression in bioware's thinking and was a nice change of pace.

Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come from Bioware with their dlc. If they can pull of this caliber of gameplay/story in the dlc that is suppose to bridge 2 and 3 then it'll be great.

Now just include weapon/armor in the mission dlc not this seperate crap and it'll be near perfect!

I liked it, and was worth every $, but it's not exactly "the best DLC ever".

Good:
+Great music.
+Great level design and atmosphere.
+Good length.
+The end boss was very original (for ME standards)
+Loghain's voice.

Bad:
-It was really easy on Insanity (probably because I used a post suicide mission save :alien:)
-Hammerhead is still not as good as it could be.
-No party banter (this was to be expected though).
-Story was kinda weak until the very end.

Favorite Moments/Dialogue:
- If you let the end boss finish the upload, you get a creepy non-standar Game over screen
- *About to use a console "Don't be surprised if a Reaper shows up".
- The brother's reveal.
- the "hervivores vs. rockets" dialogue
-The "pretty scenery" dialogue (Probably bioware's way of saying: "there's your goddamn pretty planet, enjoy it".)

Well, at least SOMEONE acknowledges Legion as a geth, even if none of the squaddies get a line.

Was hoping for a bit more content, but it's better than Firewalker was, at least.

I figured that was Simon Templeman doing Archer's voice.

Pretty much agree with everything you said. It's a good start to what hopefully will be a long line of quality DLC to come from Bioware.
