So the purpose behind the comic Redemption was to show how Liara got Shepard's body to Cerberus, as well as explain where Liara was coming from when you talk to her in ME2. But I personally felt that the story sucked, so have wondered how I would have changed it to better suit what we see in the game.
1. Liara's "friend" should actually have been a friend, perhaps an asari she knew growing up who happens to be working out of Omega. This would make the impact of her friend's death/capture more profound.
2. Liara is given information from an unknown source that indicates someone has Shepard's body. She can't get the help of Shepard's former crew because 1) with the Alliance crew scattered, she doesn't know how to contact anyone there, 2) Tali's with the Migrant Fleet, 3) Garrus doesn't check his emails, 4) Wrex is on Tuchanka... or dead.
3. While on Omega, Liara discovers that the Blue Suns are preparing to transfer Shepard's body to the Collectors. Knowing the Collectors reputation, Liara is committed to seeing this doesn't happen.
4. Liara loses her friend in the battle to get Shepard's body and now needs to hide from the mercenaries and the Collectors. Miranda appears to offer Cerberus's help. Miranda explains Cerberus's intentions to bring Shepard back to life.
5. The reason Liara agrees to Miranda's offer is because 1) it's the best way to ensure the Collectors don't get the body and 2) Liara has seen the same vision Shepard has and is probably the only one beyond Shepard and Shiala who can truly understand what is at stake.
6. Liara must then concentrate on finding her friend, perhaps due to a promise Liara gave her friend before she was taken that Liara would come for her.
Now, I could just as well not bother coming up with my own version of how Cerberus got Shepard's body, but I'm bored. So why the hell not.
I purposely left out any references to the Shadow Broker because, based on the unused audio that Liara had about the Shadow Broker, any plans the developers had for him/her/it/them seems lacking.
I also thought about how anyone could have found Shepard's body in the first place. In this case, I figured he never did establish reentry onto Alchera because that's stupid. While it might have looked like that's where Shepard was going, I'm going to play the cutscene as designed for dramatic effect. Like Jack taking out three YMIR mechs. So how does anyone find one body orbiting a planet? Well, Alchera is devoid of development. It shouldn't really have any man-made satellites orbiting the planet, so simply look for man-made wreckage orbiting the planet. Even if most of it apparently crashed onto the planet, I'm sure there's some of it floating about in space where you can then find Shepard's body. Needle in a haystack, but not impossible for someone really determined.
Don't think the Blue Suns really have the capabilities to do it themselves, so I imagine they're playing middleman to whoever did get the body and the Collectors.
