Hello forum, I'm planning a new Sentinel in the future after I finish ME1 for a new background and sidequest sash.

I was asking if I should go with an Assault Rifle, or stick to Shotgun Sentinels.  I like the use of Assault Armor, with the Blood Dragon Armor making up for the 10% Power Damage increase with it's 15% Power Damage Increase.

That said, I miss using my Geth Pulse Rifle/Collector Assault Rifle, and from experience with my old Adepts, can go through Insanity with both.  That said, the Eviscerator is a nice ****ing gun, and I'm just asking for imput before relying on my old method of flipping a coin.

I don't think there's really any benefit between one or the other with the Sentinel. I suppose one thing to be said for the shotgun is that if you're going to go the Assault Armor route, you've got a good opportunity to get right up against an enemy so you can shoot them in the face. That's always nice with a shotgun.

With Assault Armor, it might be wise to take a shotgun. The shotgun is really a versatile weapon class and I take it for a lot of classes.

I usually take shotgun as Sentinel in case I want to do an NG+ as an Assault Sentinel. The Locust, if you have it, can double as an Assault Rifle if need be, and really, the Sentinel doesn't need an AR to be effective

It's not that I'm trying to get the most effective weapon out the Sentinel, I just enjoy using ARs from my Adept. However, I do happen to have the Kasumi DLC, and I do make great use of the Locust. This being said, I also use the Eviscerator (loving it).

Still, it's the dilemma, I like Assault Armor even if I'm not rushing, but sitting in the back pumping rounds out and spamming Warp and Overload with my squad. That being said, the Shotgun is good for defense just as much as using AA to cover your ass, the shield regen to 50% is great over all, and I still use my Blood Dragon Armor to make up for the Power Armor 10% Tech damage loss, the extra 25% shield boost being marginally negligible, even with the 10% shield increase from BDA.

Heavy Weapon wise, the Arc Caster has made all but my Cain redundant, and even then I'm barely using it unless I want to put the scalpel away and use the chainsaw for a minute or 10ish. (final boss/Scions on Horizon)

Sniper rifle. The Viper gives you a good amount of firepower for heavy enemies and is quite powerful.

I took Sniper as well, for Insanity run. AR seems too close to the Locust and I just like sniping more than shotgunning.

IMO only thing Sentinal lacks is Long range shooting and Ammo power and both of those can be covered easily.

I have to add my support for the Viper sniper rifle as well. I had never been a fan of it when I played an Infiltrator, thinking its rapid fire somehow betrayed the spirit of being a sniper. But I took it for my Adept and it really does eat through armor. It is essentially your long range AR/SMG.

VIPER... that thing is awesome for everything but infiltrator where the zoom slow down makes it harder to use.

The viper can strip and kill most everything with a single clip. What it doesn't kill, you can cast against to finish off or let your squadies do it.

But, I'm not a fan of close up killing, so that influences my play and choice. When I do play close up, i prefer the scimitar for it's larger clip as I find the evi too slow and having too few rounds between reloads.

All depends on how you play it I would imagine. If you going to stay mostly at range being a caster Sentinel, you'll want the Viper or the Vindicator. If you want to get in the middle of a crowd of enemies often and let Assault Armor's blast knock them all back, hell even using Energy Drain as a bonus to ensure the blast doesn't go off before you get into position, take the Evi. If you want to do a little of both, not being locked into one style or another, take Assault Rifles. That way you can use the Tempest up close and the Vindicator mid-range or for some missions switch to one of the full-auto Assault Rifles and use that up close too.

I must be the only one crazy enough not to like the feel of the Vindicator. I haven't tried the Sniper, never made an Infiltrator. However, I do like mid-range to close range conbat and I like hybrid Sentinel fighting.

The Vindicator is nice, lets the Sentinel kill infantry much faster and combines well with the Tempest, but for me, the Sentinel has never had a problem with taking out infantry. It's with guys with long HP bars like YMIRS, Primes, Scions, and Bosses. That's where we need the DPS.

Seriously.....health bars? everything does like 9,000,000 time more damage to health bars

Not what he meant obviously, YMIR mechs, Primes, Scions etc. have a ton of protection = a lot of survivability, or 'health'. (Not as in health bars you can use any ability on, if you know what I mean)

As for the topic, I'm currently on my 4th Sentinel playthrough (yeah I know) and running around with the Vindicator+Tempest, never liked the Vindicator before so it's nice to finally try it out.
But I'd pick a shotgun for assault Sentinel and either go with the Evisecrator or Schimitar.
Never ran with a sniper on a Sentinel because I just don't think it feels right, but that's probably just me.

Viper is amazing though, especially against big targets.

Eh I was delerious from lack of sleep, It does help strip defenses, however the game is pretty easy button even on insanity

Still harder than the lift and Singularity Spam that is ME 1.  I'll just make three seperate saves and get a feel for it.

I like the shotgun personally. Between the heavy warp and the carnifex hand cannon, I never had trouble with the big guys, but the shotgun allows you to wreck havoc in close quarters. Between the shotgun, assault armor and punching people to death, the sentinel is the best close quarters combat operator period.

I love the viper mind you. I just never felt the need to take it with an assault sentinel. You want to get in close anyway. The only enemy you might want to use the viper is the YMIRS and the scions, and as I said above, your powers and pistol take em out well enough.

Eviscerator + Assault Armor rocks. Besides, Locust is good enough to kill any distant targets.

Locust gets boring by itself, with two backup weapons.

Eh, I reckon the shotgun probably works best, but I like the SR.

'cos nothing is as amusing as having a squadmate use pull, arcing a throw low to launch your foe into the air, then shooting it with the mantis.
