I have seen 2 dragons and the arch demon.
The game sure don't seem to involve much in they way of dragons.
Not on a "cultural" level or story wise
A more fitting name would have been
The Blight: Darkspawn Returns
or
Ferelden: Attack of the Darkspawn
What inspired the choice of the name?
What is the "Dragon" in Dragon Age?

It's the named so because thats the Age that Ferelden is currently in.
The high dragon that you can kill showed itself at the end of the last age, going on a rampage. Thus they named the new age the Dragon Age.
Dragon's were supposedly extinct. Thus the significance.

It is referred to, I believe the ninth age of the existence of Ferelden. In one of the "tips" in the loading screen, you see an explenation for this. That the dragons have only began to be seen in this ninth age. I guess that is why they called it the "Dragon" Age. Ofcourse, your adventures take place in this particular age, so why call it to a different name?

When the loading screen is up it says that every one hundred years is an age named after divining at the end of the last age. or something like that its just the "Dragon Age".

There is already an explanation for the name. Every century is given a name based on events. A high dragon was spotted in the beginning of the current century, and was therefore named the Dragon age. Beofre that, dragons had been in hiding for a quite a while.

Woah, apologies for the three replies. I guess something went wrong!

Because it's the age of dragons as explained during the loading? Also, which tree dragons are there? I have only faced two myself.

Feels more like the dragon stuff is just a marketing ploy.
There were more dragons on NWN!

Ya i guess the since this is the Origin of the dragon age, maybe we are just seeing the dragons start to come back. Also, you really only fight 1 dragon and then the arch demon, since one of the dragons is just a shapeshifter

i'm glad tehre are only 3 total dragon fights, and they are ball busters. even in dungeons and dragons, dragon fights were not meant to be trivial as they ended up being in nwn.

Hey man the title says Dragon so I figured I could dual wield dragon with my dragon bow and dragon armour made out of dragons. And drink dragon ale. What a ripoff!

The lore is rife with dragons... The empire worshiped the god like ones. The dragon cults still worship different dragons. The arch demon is a dragon. Flemeth can take dragon form. The one high dragon that is older and one that is younger. Blood magic was taught by dragons or so the ancient texts proclaim. Dragon armor. Dragonbone weapons. Yep no dragons or anything related...

You mean that tiny drake? He was nothing compared to the High Dragon and Flemmeth let alone the archdemon

Took me a while to bring it down, and a lot of guts to change the difficulty from D&D Hardcore rules to easy; oh dear, why did you have to bring NWN2 into the fray, now I just remembered about that tree-hugging animal-butcher Elanee was. Please, erase those images in my head!

Although that was a really cool fight when first encountered, I dont really consider that to be a full on dragon fight like we're talking about. If you consider that one then what about all the other drakes, like in the caves and in the mage tower... We're talking about full grown dragons

There appears to be some confusion as to the whole dragon business. There are dragonlings, Drakes, dragons, then the high dragons.
The only one that I see as a high dragon that you can fight in the game is the one on the mountaintop. Regular dragons would be the ones in the elven ruins, Orzimmar, and one other place I can't recall. The drakes and dragonlings, well, who cares where they are.
Edit : I do not know if the Archdemon can be classified as a high dragon since its gender was never made specific. Also, Flemeth is a powerful shapeshifter. Just because she wasn't a dragon prior to fighting her doesn't make her any less of one when she's devouring your loved ones.
