What is the "Dragon" in Dragon Age?

The high dragon that you can kill showed itself at the end of the last age, going on a rampage. Thus they named the new age the Dragon Age.

Dragon's were supposedly extinct. Thus the significance.



It was soon seen as a sigh of coming war. Its fitting since the blight did start a civil war and the big boss is a blighted dragon god. Besides, dragons are very poweful in this game so its fitting they are few in numbers. Any dragon appearing is a big deal since they are suppose to be extinct.
