The Saturn, or maybe the X-box since it dies randomly and scratches your disks.

The Saturn wasn't successful. Like, at all.

The Saturn wasn't quite the flop that the Sega CD and especially 32X were but yeah it wasn't a successful console.

I think the Saturn was actually a pretty underrated console.  2D fighting games on the Saturn were a Hell of a lot better than on the playstation.  Unfortunately, many of the Saturn's greatest games never were released in the USA.

I think the Sega Saturn would've been more successul had Sega not hurt their reputation with the Sega CD and 32X.  Also, if I remember correctly I think the Sega Saturn was 400 dollars when it was first launched comapred to the Playstation which was 300 dollars.  Way too expensive.

I don't know how anyone can mention the PS2.  I personally consider that to be one of the best consoles of all time.  The fact that it's still fairly mainstream is amazing (though its basically done now.  Still an amazing run).

Worst console, imo, would have to be the Wii.  The vast majority of the games made for the wii are absolute trash, and I wouldn't classify that as an opinion, just look at review scores for the crap they make.  I don't put a huge emphasis on graphics, but that thing is medicore to low end even by last gen standards.  Finally:  I'm not impressed with the whole "lets be casual!" gaming.  The wii sells well because it's mostly bought by people who don't actually use it except when they throw parties or have family over.  It does nothing to progress gaming itself (like social games on facebook).

Second would be a tie between the Xbox and the 360.  I love my 360, but it's delicate as hell.  And I never understood the love for the original xbox.

Be prepared for equal amounts of garbage shovelware when Move and Kinect hit shelves, to be honest. From the 'Kinect launch titles' list, you can expect the very same idiotic 'exercise/sport/minigame' collections Wii owners need to dig through every time they go to the store to buy games.
And 'mediocre to low end'? Uh... it's more powerful than the PS2 and the Gamecube, and in terms of the GPU, the Xbox as well. I don't see where you're going with that. Also rating scores.

Metacritic (I hate using it, but whatever)
Super Mario Galaxy 2: 97, and the longest god-damn list of 100s I've ever seen in my life outside of Ocarina of Time. I mean, the lowest score there is a 90!

And yeah, how can anyone mention the PS2? It was great! The library it has today still holds up. How can you say no to the system that brought us Silent Hill 2 and 3, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami (admittedly the Wii version was better, but that's to be expected) and so much more?

Er, I didn't say that the Wii didn't have good games, I said the vast majority were ****.  Everyone buys those handful of good games, and the **** games just go straight in the trash where they belong.

@Jalem

The reason why the ps2 makes the list is because the infrastructure was full of cheap-o-cut-corner that tied developers in knots and prevented us gamers from getting some really beautiful looking stuff and some better games.

It is of course ironic that Sony listened to that when producing the overly powerful ps3...

I agree, the Wii is a bad console.

The original xbox was a fantastic piece of hardware. Unfortunately the 360 is just not the same. My Japan launch xbox works today. 360.. well...

The PS2 is awesome. I still to this day play it as much as my 360. Plus its a cheap dvd player and can play ps1 games (which I still largely do).

I have to add, consoles these days break way too easily. Been through several 360's, PS2's and PS1's, but never had to replace my original Nintendo and Super Nintendo. Hey Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft! Spend an extra 50 cents on each system and make them more durable.

How is this possible, do you have a top loader or something?

How the hell have you been through several 360's? When you buy ONE you get a warranty for like a year so you can send it back any time to get it fixed. Plus, why buy several 360's when you can easily get a new console.

I agree about consoles being flimsy these days. I still have a 80's Acorn Electron and it works. How's that for durability?

I enjoy consoles for nostalgic reasons (like digging out a playstation to play the original Tomb Raider, or digging out the SNES for some Mario Kart action) but yeah, you can't beat a PC.

Onyx: No, I still have the old VHS loading style NES.Image IPB  I wish I had a top loading NES.  I have no idea how it survived this long.  I'm very careful with my old systems though.
GMartin40: I've had to get a new xbox because my 3 year warrenty ran out. I should have clarified. I had my original box fixed like 4 times, but I had it die again after the three year. It was cheaper for me to get a new one in the long run. Debated on getting a different system at that point, but I had a lot of games for it plus many friends and relatives who play it, that's why I still have one. I live in Canada, the warrenty system works a little different up here than down in the USA. Some stores you have to buy the warrenty from, and they send the box out for you. Weird I know, but it saves me paying the shipping cost in the long run.

I think the Wii is the worst.

I bought a Wii the day it came out- played it & absolutely hated it. I ended up selling it for twice what I paid for it. The idea of it is good but when I want to play a video game I don't need a workout- I go to the gym for my workouts. Also, the little wrist guard doesn't help & occasionally the darn controller goes flying out of your hand. I'm sure there's been a lot of tvs broken because of it.

The only game that was fun to play (for me anyway) was the bowling game that came with it.

There was alot of TV's being broken at the start. I remember seeing a program on TV which was "investigating" the reports of people claiming Wii broke their TV. Although they were invariably idiots.

My mate was playing Wii boxing and kept getting closer and closer to the screen until he eventually punched it right off the stand. Miraculously the TV survived. I may be unique in that I managed to hit myself in the nuts with the Wii-mote while playing the baseball game.

Well I had been playing for nearly 2 hours I was taking it a bit too serious and was sweating a bit. I was pitching in baseball and decided to see if throwing harder made much of a difference, so I was really launching them bring my arm from my shoulder and down across my body. As it came down the controller slipped from my hand and swung on the strap taking me right in the nuts . I swear I was down and out for like 10 minutes .

The XBOX/360:pinched:

Little more than a limited PC subset with a lame name and little purpose behind it beyond locking developers into Microsoft platforms even further and to have SOMETHING to show for the American console scene, even if it's basically, again, a PC clone.

Responsible for the death of Microsoft's excellent SideWinder division and gimping several great games that would've been lots better on the PC, like Fable II, all under the scare of ooooh piracy!, when the 360 was the earliest to get cracked this generation IIRC.

Just imagine how much better it would've been if all those resources went into enhancing Windows-exclusive gaming platforms (like actually realizing the original vision behind Vista/7's Game Explorer) and better marketing for some of the best and most-innovative controllers the industry has ever seen, like the SideWinder Dual-Strike.

Say it aint so.

yeah it's probably not for couch-potatoes

Better stay away from sports. :P

Motion Plus is a big point in why the Wii is a failure.

BAHAHAHA the fake little self-assurances we keep giving ourselves. I'm sure the "Kinect" and "Move" will succeed in satisfying your "Me too!"ness.

Definately the Wii. I am not going to shake around a shiny white ****** all day.

No you prefer to have 2 tiny little ones to pinch around all day without feeling inferior. =]

LOL love how he quickly mentions "I go to the gym" pfff

No really, what was the point of that? Maybe you'll prefer the Kinect where you won't be carrying any excuses (like the Wiimote) to explain why you're twitching around all over the place.

That said, I don't believe in 'worst successful consoles'. If a console was bad, it wouldn't be successful, would it? No matter how much 360/PS3/Wii fanboys like the spew their hatred of the other platforms their mothers wouldn't buy for them.

A bit telling that the people on these boards who are either dismissive or defensive of piracy almost never have any games registered, go figure.

In any case the Xbox was a great console for the simple fact that it almost always had the best version of every multi-platform game of the generation. There were a few exceptions such as Hot Pursuit II on the PS2 being better than both the gamecube and Xbox version but generally the Xbox was the choice format for multi-platform games.

pff Oh I love this, could you weasel around a little more? I'm sure it gives your arguments more weight than if you don't personally attack someone you didn't agree with. <_<

Where the hell was I "defensive or dismissive of piracy?" WOW. The only good thing about the XBOX is that it's essentially a PC, so most Western developers don't have to retool too much for it, otherwise, it's always been the most lackluster and generic of both generations, but quite a few developers have opted for XBOX exclusives citing less piracy and other such BS, which is a bit of a joke. Too bad if that fact geeks you out.

Also, what were you expecting this thread to turn into when you started it? The title could've easily been, something about the Nintendo 64. This was going to be end up a fanboi war and you knew it.

I was referring to your oooohhh piracy! remark in regards to Fable II. It doesn't matter though and Hell I don't disagree. I just think developers avoiding releasing games for the PC due to piracy is a sound business decision so I don't resent Fable II being a 360 exclusive.

I don't see it as a joke because the PC gaming market is smaller overall than the console market and therefore piracy on the PC has a bigger impact than with consoles. Therefore from a fiscal standpoint I can understand developers wanting to avoid the PC.

I don't quite understand what you mean by saying the Xbox is essentially a PC. Isn't the hardware of every console similar to a PC? Also, what is wrong with consoles being like a PC? Would you prefer it if we went back to the days where consoles had no hard drive, or internet access?
