After getting 42 STR, I personally went for 2 STR 1 DEX after each level. I found that I dealt less damage than my pure STR 2 hander but I survived longer with the high defence and missed less often. There's no point adding Willpower: Andruil's Blessing + Spellward + Champion Spec + Fade bonuses gets it to 20+ enough for the entire game.
I don't use haste but use swift salves a lot since I run on solo nightmare, but if you're running on a party get haste it will help but it reduces the ability for your mage to spend that mana else where for AOE or other spells. Use swift salves instead for my advice.
Armour wise:
Evon + Wade's Superior or Warden's Keep DLC
Cailan's Armour is awesome at out healing the damage taken but on a 2 hander it sucks unless its on a S&S character than its good.

I don't think he was asking about a solo run... he even mentioned a problem being healed in his first post.
Templar I would agree is the wisest choice for primary spec on a NM run, but redundant mage killing talents are never a bad thing when one bad spell can force a reload.
If you really want to be safe, have either 2 mages and a rogue or 2 rogues and a mage and set all tactics for #1 priority Mana Clash or Arrow of Slaying for mages.
Then keep Scattershot ready in case of Overwhelms, and you shouldn't have to worry about being one-shotted.
My mistake im sorry, I thought that was for another discussion topic im following lol.

No Haste at all. Once I obtained Evon/ Wade mail combo with Beserker, I could place a talent on almost every foe each segment of melee. It was the fastest Arch-demon visit, too.
This - that is the heart and soul of playing a two hand warrior. Actually, almost any warrior. Use those talents! This may come as a shocker, but in my full warrior party the Dual Weld was starting to lose to both a 2 Hand and S&S in total dmg. Until, I dropped relying on auto attacks and started pumping out talents. Punisher/Flurry/Dual Sweep/Riptose/Whirlwind > Auto attack. No joke.

Boo for Auto Attack duel wielders lol
I still find it surprising how much damage sword and shield puts out when your a Str spec instead of a Dex one.

I have also used a STR based S&S Warden, though his DEX was good, too. The damage for both Sword and Shield were quite good. However, I still found the character less fun to play than 2H, or my Rogue builds. Still, it was staifying to be able to utterly crush Arl Howe with the Cousland family shield.
I plan to reload that fight however many times as needed to make sure I get a "Messy kill" animation on him with the Cousland sword and shield.

I'm not suggesting that talents are bad. I'm suggesting that dead is dead. Once you get Starfang and a decent rune set you can kill the majority of trash mobs with one auto-attack. I see no reason to use sunder armor on some junk darkspawn if a standard attack will kill them.
However, on elites talents become much more important, or you can play tactically to set yourself up for constant 2H Sweep spam with multiple opponents around you.
Talents are great, but if you don't need to expend stamina to kill an opponent... why bother?

Similarly with DW, there just isn't a reason to use a talent on one stand-alone white monster if half an auto attack sequence would kill them. That doesn't mean you won't use talents... as whirlwinds and sweeps are better to use when you can hit two targets.
Auto-attack does have a purpose...and so do using talents. No reason both can't be applicable in different situations.

I do find dualwield more fun personally and I think I'll find sword and shield more fun as well, but again this is purely a personal preference thing pertaining to roleplaying aspects and looks of the animations.
Once again thanks for all the advice given, it has really helped a lot with my experimenting.
I'd have to say that as far as battle-enjoyment, I rate the warrior styles like this:
1) 2-hander
2) Dual wielder
3) Archer
4) Sword and Shield
I like the 2-hander the best for its explosiveness, It's just fun to play and watch, like some big knockout punching heavyweight boxer. a close second would be dual wielder, due to their buzz-saw like speed on the battlefield (it's nice putting darkspawn through a blender on its highest setting). 3rd is Archery, simply because its fun killing things from a distance.
Last is Sword and Shield. I just found them... boring by comparison. They're neither explosive knockout artists, nor speedy buzz-saws. They're something in between, and they stay that way till the very end (which means there's really nothing to strive for. You know they'll never be as powerful as 2-handers, nor as quick as dualwielders). Their talents are unimaginitive and there isn't a whole lot of variety in them (gee, do I want to activate talent X and hit the guy 3 times? Or do I want to activate talent Y and hit the guy 4 times?)

1) 2H and DW are tied for me
2) haven't done this on a warrior, but my rogue archer is going to be interesting.
Dead Last) SnS. boring as hell to me, and they don't have anything to strive for, like you said.

I agree. I would actually use Sword and Shield more often if it actually had some more variety in it's abilities. Hell, there are 2 wasted sustainable abilities that I don't use once I get the shield wall sustainable. Maybe if it had an AOE attack or two, I would get it but otherwise, it's only useful for tanking really.Yrkoon wrote...

even then, tanking can barely be called necessary in DA. when 2Hers and DWers can charge into a room, and either gun straight for the mages, or just annihilate half the room with a couple of moves, everyone else can just go nuts with damage. no tanking necessary.

My simple little question is, how do I get enough Cunning to max out my Coercion? It's at base 10 now, so I'm assuming the 'all-points-into-strength' recommendation must be based on earning the needed Cunning points through quest bonuses. If that's the case, which quests should I take early enough to the that extra Cunning and how soon should I acquire higher Coercion to have all conversations options available to me when needed?

Just finally got DA:O here and have found this thread helpful since I decided to run through as a 2-handed Noble Dwarf Warrior first (and how strange it was during the origin to see I was supposed to be the middle child when I made my dwarf look as old as the king, except with a red skin tone). I'm just out of the origin so not too far into the game yet, but have been dumping all points into Strength as I see suggested for this type Warrior. My skills so far are Coercion I and Expert Combat Training III with my talents being Sunder Arms, Pommel Strike, Mighty Blow, and Indomitable. I was thinking of trying Beancounter's suggestions of getting Two-Handed Sweep by level 10 and Death Blow by level 12.

Sorry for answering this 6 days late, you may have found an answer by now.
When you seek help from the Circle of Magi using the Grey Warden Treaties, part of the quest involves entering the Fade. While you are inside, you will get a bunch of attribute bonuses, including 5 points to cunning.
