Well, The Witcher was CDProjekt RED's first game, so I think it's only fair to give them a little bit of slack in the development department. I can't compare Geralt to the book version as I've not read them, but I didn't find him that bad - certainly a nice change from the oft-silent protagonist you usually get in RPGs.

As for the dialogue, I found putting subtitles on and changing the voice overs to Polish really made a difference for the good. Sounds a lot better IMHO.

Did changing it to Polish reduce the referenced to dwarf genitals? There are only so many times that's funny, and that amount is one time.

The script is pretty much the same, but at least you only read it instead of hearing it in an understandable language (unless, of course, you speak Polish).

The cards were cool, I don't understand why people would have a problem with them.
It's a fantasy game were you are a male hero in a morally gray world. In real life, many woman simply are ****s with no sense of standard who will go to bed no problem.

they were tacky and were aimed at horny nerds. i have no issue with a morrally grey world like the witcher, i do have an issue with a tacky gotta collect em all sex conquests cards

I am currently enjoying The Witcher, and really looking forward to the sequel. Everything I'v read about the changes they are making is encouraging. It will be a shorter story line, but bigger world and more open-ended. Better character models ( thank god ) better graphics overall, more fluid combat - they looked at Arkham Asylum for this and I can see the resemblance. It will have dynamic conversations where npc's can come and go. And lastly, the environments look stunning, more like paintings than real life. I can't wait for this game!

WARNING!

This is my opinion only.

I think that TW2 will blow everything else away. I red about some of the features that they want to imlpement or already did and...this is kind of game I weas waithing for for decades. If they deliver on "closer to pnp RPG/hardcore cRPG" and the rest like combat, graphics, sex or whatever will be just a cherry on the top I think this game will be a exmaple for which every future game will strive for.

...I wonder will they outsource the engine...

Why would they do that?
They are just going to tweak the previous combat system.

They've overhauled the combat system, not just tweaked it, IIRC.

Combat will be more like in Batman: Arkham Asylum. No stances, you can mix styles in combos: fast+strong+group+signs and add alchemy into the mix. There will be an option to fight with blunt weapons/fists to avoid killing enemies...
Greatly improved customization, over 3000 items, and some significant crafting system...
Aint that fun? :D

I will buy TW2 immediately. I have great respect and loyalty to CD ProjeKt in regards to the Enhanced Edition and how they treat their customers (in direct contrast to EA, quite possibly the greediest and hater-customer company in existence). Having said that, though, the real reason I will buy TW2 immediately is 1) because The Witcher was simply fantastic and I know that 2) the sequel to the Witcher will not only be just as good but probably much better than the Witcher. I firmly believe TW2 will be the RPG to which all other RPGs get compared (much like Baldur's Gate II) for the next ten years. With DA2 I have no such confidence given the rush job being put on it and the crap that's been delivered via DLCs for it. God, what a rip off. Who's to say DA2 won't be just another hack rip off? With that I will wait a good long while reading the opinions of others before forking over my money. DA:O's warped endings, sub par graphics, location and opponent retreads and crappy DLCs have left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Wait untill EA buys/eats/consumes CD Project. I bet EA is already polishing their cutlery

Which is why one of the smartest things Valve did was to remain a private limited company and not become a public limited company.  Prevents buyouts and having to pander to stockholders whose only interest is in short term profits.

CDProjekt are already owned by someone, I can't remember who though. I don't think they'll ever agree to be bought out by EA, though, whether it's just RED or the whole CDProjekt company, because the amount of freedom they have would instantly disappear.

It also sounds like the company that owns CDProjekt, Optimus, have themselves been bought out and with the sudden closure of GoG.com (owned by CD Projekt), some people are fearing the worst (of course it could just be a marketing stunt but if so it's a bad one).

For those that don't know, GoG.com has suddenly been shut down with no warning, details found here, and the actual gog site was here

GOG.com is not down, it's a marketing ploy probably connected with coming out of beta stage. There are couple of articles in Polish confirming that.

Thiev is right, and members of the Gog team have come forward (Look at Kotaku and Destructoid at the very least) and said that it's simply a marketing ploy.

It's a terrible idea, though. There's no getting away from that.

I was aware that there were rumours about it being a marketing stunt, it's mentioned in the article I linked, but unfortunately I don't speak polish so I have no idea about those Polish articles. ^_^  Either way, the Optimus company does appear to have had a large buyout of it's shares, and if gog restarts with DRM and is owned by some publisher I know who I'll be blaming. :P

EDIT:  Actually the article I linked doesn't have any mention of the marketing ploy, must've been one of the other articles I read, 2 secs.  Here is the article I must've been thinking of.

True. I'm sure that as soon as forums are up and going, most of their users would give them a piece of mind <_<

As for the current topic, I'm getting TW2 and DA2 - IMHO both good and different games.

Yeah, it is pretty much the worst publicity stunt they could've done, short of posting a video of themselves on youtube putting a cat in a bin.  Still, I'm sure I can forgive them if that's the case, everyone makes mistakes unless they're soulless PR machines.

As I said on D.Toid, CDProjekt's common sense had to end somewhere.
