This is strange. I am now on my third playthrough, and it seems to me that the framerate is considerably worse than it used to be.
I'm runing on a MacBook Pro (Late 2008) Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 2 GB Memory, Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT.
Video with High graphic quality, High texture quality, Framebuffer on at 1344x840.
Framerate at Ostagar Camp or Lothering is now about 1 with Antialiasing turned off, while previously it used to be about 10, AND with Antialiasing turned on. I dread to see what it will be like on Denerim Market. Switching to Tactical View helps a bit, but you don't want to play the game completely in Tactical View...
My question: Are there maybe some temp files that keep accumulating that might drag the performance down? Is there a cache to be cleaned? What else could be wrong?
The only thing I changed from previous games is that I have started using "Alternative Armor Tints" from Dragon Age Nexus, but turning them on or off doesn't seem to make that much of a difference...
DA:O getting slower over months?

Thanks, but no, I'm not downloading anything, I switch off all non-vital tasks before starting the game. I also checked my activity monitor and it's just DA:O that is hogging resources.
And, I started to notice the slowing down with my third playthrough. Before, things ran fine...

Thank you anyway, I've got 30 GB free space.
Maybe it's really the "Alternative Armor Tints", which would be a pity, since armors look much more brilliant and identifiable with it...

I use tons of mods and it hasn't slowed down the game at all, so I doubt that's what the problem is. Do you have lots of other apps running the background? That's the only thing I have found that will bog DAO down.

Nonono, I quit everything quittable that might be running. Even Stickies. The only thing using 180% CPU time is Dragon Age, according to Activity Monitor. Everything else (system stuff) uses about 1-2% at max.
It's really strange because it became noticeable with this playthrough. It's not that bad at the moment, but I'm not looking forward to larger crowded areas like Denerim Market...
Of course, Transgaming's port is slower than the Windows version, but up to now, I got decent franerates almost everywhere. From other programs, I'd have guessed some temp or cache files accumulating somewhere that drag the performance down, but I haven't been able to find out if DA:O does such a thing.

Did you install 10.6.4? Valve claims it slows down Nvidia chipsets, though I haven't noticed anything myself playing Dragon Age. If so, hopefully there'll be a fix soon, or you could try downgrading (don't ask me how, I don't know how to do that).

Not sure if you can use this on a mac or not (and I know you've said you turned off all unnecessary background programs), but GameBooster does wonders with mine. It not only turns off ALL background programs and processes that aren't needed for gaming, but also defrags and cleans up your RAM to get more out of it. I have no idea how I ever played games without it. Give it a shot and see if that helps.

Jhime, thanks. I had lost track of my version, and had to check it myself, but I'm still on 10.6.3. Maybe I should stay on it a little longer, too...
Joey, thanks, but GameBooster seems to be availiable only for Windows.
At the moment, things seem to run smoother again. I just LOVE problems that come and go unannounced...
