 Hello everyone,

When I try to open DA:O through Steam, I select configure, and then play. Well, a window comes up, then closes. It comes up again, then closes. It does this for a few seconds, then I get a message saying Dragon Age Origins failed to start (Error code 51).

Anyone got any tips?

Kaedai, did you ever get it working? I have the game on Xbox, but just bought it again on PC via steam, and am getting the same error... I can't find ANYWHERE which can give me an answer as to how to fix it!

My recommendation for how to fix problems with the Steam version of DAO is : "Get rid of it."

Since you already purchased the game, you can download the EA/Origin store version for no charge.  Use the "Help" link at the bottom of the page and then choose "Contact Us - Get back in the Game" at the lower-right of the EA Support page.  From there, go to "Live Chat" to get connected to a Customer Service rep, and explain what's going on.
They should be able to verify your CD-key and authorize your Origin account to get the game.
