Ok, so someone well versed in english feel free to explain the difference between the two candidates, on my first playthrough I choose to support the kid, due to being european and the salic law and such. The other candidate was chosen by the king yes? And at the end of the game the kid opened up trade with the surface and so on. I want a thorough explanation on the policy of both candidates, what the ending say if you choose the other and if anyone is considered "evil" by you. I prefer to see it in a grey scale myself.

Well, the obvious "evil" choice is your choice, actually. Play the dwarf noble origin and you'll see why. But he's a much better king than harrowmont. Harrowmont is basically a total failure. But he's the good guy.

Harrowmont is "the good guy". He means well and wants the best for his city.
But he is not good in playing the game of Ozammar politics.
Bhelen on the other hand wants only more power and this seems to go pretty well for the city. This mean he is the better king in my opinion, but not a "good person".
I supported Harrowmond because he seemed to be the better choice for a "good" character. If I ever play as a dwarven noble I will also choose him.

Alright, I never really considered it an evil choice, I just took the person I saw more fitting as a king. Thank you for your answers!

this choice is not as simple as Harrowmont or Bhelen
my understanding of it, is the ending is also effect by what you choose to do with the anvil. Bhelen and Harrowmont would handle the anvil of the void differently, I imagine

Yes, your choice on the anvil influences things. I kept the anvil and Harrowmont did a bit better. He doesn't abuse power. Behlen on the otherhand seems the kind of guy. But I haven't tried the situation.
But in general, Behlen is a populist despot. He will bring more equality and openess, to the expense of political freedom. Horrowmont is a noble pleaser, so he will keept the traditional, free assembly, only to harm the majority of people and be isolationist. The two have their ups and downs.
Harrowmont without the anvil is an epic fail. Harrowmont with anvil is meeh.
Behlen without the anvil is a great success. Behlen with the anvil might be too much power (my speculation, haven't done it yet).

I did Behlen with the anvil and it was a great success from what I could read too it, he opened up trade with the outside and so on so forth.
