Your dead fish won't but your live ones will. But they'll be dead because you didn't feed them while you weren't playing.

thats what kelly is for!

Since I have a dozen or more completed games in ME2, with 75% of them being imported from ME1, the main question for me is about hard drive migration. Chris has posted that on the 360, only save games that are on the "original" memory unit, hdd, flash drive, etc... would import. That wasn't that big a deal initially. But I only have the older 20gb hdd, and after loading disk 1, I only have 3-4gb free.

So my part of this question is... will we be able to migrate to a larger and/or newer hdd and still be able to import into ME3. It would also be a nice patch for ME2 now that the new Kinect ready systems are out and have a whopping 250gb hdd.

This right here!

I want to purchase a new Xbox 360 Slim but I want to also know if this will screw up my ME 1 and ME 2 saves or not.

The fool proof way to test if a save if eligible for ME3 Import is
to Select BEGIN NG+ from
the MAIN MENU, what ever saves you see there,
are the saves that can be imported into ME3

Javiera, my point to the question was that Chris Priestly made a post "way back when" stating that 360 saves will only work if they are on the "original" storage device. Is that still true? If so, is it being looked at for a patch? Is that being looked at for ME3?

With the new console coming out that will be a very big concern.

Thats the thing though, before I get an Xbox 360  slim I want to know if my endgame saves will successfully transfer to the new HDD using the Xbox 360 Data Transfer Kit.

Hey just to let you know i got a larger xbox hard drive recently (20gb>250gb) and copied my entire contents over with a transfer kit, which included my profile, saves, dlc etc. Ive since been able to import my mass effect 1 and me2 new game saves over (from the original 20gb hard drive) into me2 without any problems on the new hard drive. I also remember reading the post that saves needed to be on the original device to work, and i was expecting it not to - but it's totally fine. Ive even got a different xbox at some point as well and it had no negative effect, so go get the new box! Im extemely jealous of you!

Something kind of annoying about ME1 is that the completion files seem to be separate/independent of the character files, and everytime I complete ME1, even if I reload and play through again just to re-see the ending, it creates an extra import file, so when I try to important ME1 chars into 2, it's hard telling who is who and which is which because there are so many redundant and/or vague copies. On the important screen, it doesn't really say anything other than name/class, and sometimes I have similar datas where I saved/reloaded and took slightly diff paths with the same character. I wish I could at least clean out or delete the extra completion files on a character in ME1.

THIS!

It really bugs me, I played through ME2 but I still get the nagging feeling of not knowing if my shepard is the exact shepard I wanted to play through with (although she seems ok). Although the char file tells you what date it was modified there's no way to know within the game which file is which. Even putting the date of completion when selecting a save file during character creation would go a long ways in solving this problem.

Here's one I'm curious about... I recently finished a Mass effect marathon of gaming and blasted through both games (prefered the first ones presentation and its more instinctive controls but the second one had a more gripping storyline - playing them in rapid succession gives a lot of perspective heh) anyway upon completion of the first game I'd attained the achievements on my soldier that would allow any character I made in the future in that game to use shotguns or assault rifles.

I'm curious then, if I were to complete the first game as a shotgun happy infiltrator, or an assault rifle toting engineer would those unique weapon traits pass over into the new game if I were to transfer it to ME2? Basically could I make an vanguard and walk up to Samara and be all like "pfft, you're not the only biotic warrior with a penchant for machine guns" ?

Similarly, I have an issue that I have noticed on my playthroughs.

When you import into ME2 from ME1, you get a little summary of several things, it would be nice if that sort of thing made it into the career selection screen.
I have so many Shepards with the same name/class and the only difference is the creation date. I can't tell one from the next unless I go and load the last save sometimes.
Hell, even a way to add a little biography or notes to the career would be nice.

Excellent idea!!

I would also like to have ability to name regular saves also - why do we get limited to what's easy for console players? Although even button thumpers could name their save games with a little effort.

Yes, BioWare take note. Make saves easier to navigate and store by adding more info to them that shows up when you're trying to import to ME3.

Question for Xbox 360 users: ME1 endgame saves are saved in the cache of the hard drive; that is, they are not accessible no matter what. Is this the case with ME2 endgame saves? Because it doesn't seem like it for me.

This may not be the right thread to post this question in but here it goes. So I have completed an ME2 playthrough with a Sentinel and at the end of the Suicide Mission I chose NOT to go back the ship and tie up loose ends, etc... Now if I want to play the Overlord DLC or any other mission based DLC can I load up my Sentinel's profile and load a save in that profile from before the Suicide Mission and play the DLC without messing up the fact that I completed the game already? I am playing through the game again on Insanity with an Infiltrator and did the DLC but didnt get all the achievements and want to go back and play it with my other character.

Yes and no... There will be an autosave that puts you in the captain's cabin (it is a good idea to make a "permanent" save right away), so that you can continue after the suicide mission. But, obviously, if you load a previous save to do the DLC, the post-suicide mission save won't know that you did.

Achievements probably don't depend on saves.

Unless Bioware decide to alter something significantly enough to warrant another reduction back to level 1 in ME3 as is what happened in ME2 from ME1, then I'll assume that many, if not all, aspects of the save game will transfer  through to ME3 as long as it has the suicide mission was completed.

Aspects such as money, resources etc.. Although thinking about it, I'm not sure how they'll allow upgrades through because new players or those starting a new game in ME3 would have to get the upgrades that are available in ME2 before going on to ME3 upgrades. Unless the upgrades in ME3 completely replace upgrades in ME2 rather than stack upon them. I guess/hope the ME3 armour modules (if they keep with the excellent module idea but expand it to squadmates too) would be kept as they would only provide an advantage to existing Sheps until better ME3 modules are purchased and replace old ME2 modules.

Hopefully this is, or will be, the case as my Shep's have all completed the game and then I carry on to complete subsequent DLC, purchase missed armour, mine for additional resources (mining is fun - what??!) etc... I would hope that any extra stuff they get after completion is carried over and that ME2 has done away with the separate end game 'ticket' that ME1 had and incorporates it all (decisions, current level [not level at which game was 'completed'] weapons and resources [if they continue with the same weapons and resources], credits etc..) into the relevant save game file.

Hopefully the above rambling is understandable!

ok so why not ask some other questions about the imports.. Like ME 2 to ME 3.. is it possible to import a dead shep ending to ME 3 (to be honest i hope not) cause that ruins the whole ME 1 and 2 experiance having to play as shep in 2 games to get a different hero altogether thats not as cool as shep..

People joke about Conrad trying to take over Shep's role, but in truth - If Shepard dies in ME2, that story is over and (s)he can't be imported to ME3.

What I'm interested in is if someone with 2 living squadmates will have a radically different game from someone with 12. It'd suck if things like Kasumi's Graybox or Miranda's Father don't get resolved just because they're dead, but it'd also suck more if there wasn't much of an impact to them being alive or dead. Dangling threads should have closure beyond just the character, but the character should matter too. (Obviously thane's death would mean continuing his mortality subplot into the next game would be silly)

It'd be nice if after you complete me3 it allows you to witness how events would have played out without shepard, while still maintaining many of the decisions you made throughout 1 and 2.  even if things turn out badly.

Kelly isn't worth the stretch.  She's just a prostitute and doesn't show any true love towards the fem or male shepard.

I mean how will Miranda's father ever find Miranda and how will Kasumi's Graybox have an impact in ME3?  From the look's of it Miranda's father is ruthless at best when Miranda described her childhood with him.  It would be cool though if Thane survives in ME3 and doesn't die from the Kepral syndrome that he reunites with his son Kolyat.  Yet we don't know what Bioware has up their sleeves for ME3.  Those decisions in ME1 and ME2 better have a large impact in ME3 otherwise what's the point.
