Wow, they won't patch Awakening...? They freaking pop out DLC like its diaherria, but can't make a simple patch. Yes, a patch is probably easier to make than a DLC; although, the profit isn't there...

Well, I'm playing Awakening right now, my second playthrough. Surly there are minor things like some battle sounds loop during first battle (strange, eh? it's only in first battle, while there are much more crowded scenes in game - something is bugged), but nothing major. And it never froze or something like that. That said, I'm using PSN version, downloadable one. Since I'm in EU region that's pretty much my only option.
As for retail disk - you see what people post here. Broken, won't be fixed. Maybe because PSN version is more expensive...
So, if you're really itching to play Awakening - you'll have to pay for downloadable version. Honestly, I recommend it. Yes, it's overpriced, but IMO it was worth it.

Hey, Lord, that is the exact same version I have. I can hardly play the game because it lags so much, and the sound drops are pretty horrible. I don't know what the difference is, but my PS3 is pretty top notch and well kept, though. I hope they do something to fix it because I can't play the damn thing without a good patch.

Perhaps I should mention that I have 80 GB fat PS3. What PS3 do you have?

Well, it's hard to tell if game will be ok or not I guess, since some people have major issues and some don't.
I'd still give it a try if I were you. I actually enjoyed Awakening.
I've read some posts on this forums though, that indicates that game performance depends on the HDD installed in your PS3. Since I have only one console, I can't tell for sure, at least 80 gb model HDD is fine with this game.

Well I just finished Awakening yesterday, I did notice the sound glitching a little and there were some framerate problems but nothing that I'd say unplayable. Just the same kind of minor annoyances that people exaggerate about stuff like Half Life 2. Dunno though, if it is true that it depends on the hard drive I decided to invest in the 250gb ps3 so this might be like that "apocolyps3" thing that passed me by.

It's not out yet and they can't tell us when yet. They are listing all of the bugs they are working on across all platforms. Which I think is a great improvement with their communication. This is their 3rd update to us about this. They made announcements on 6/4, 6/11, and now 6/18. You should go to the Dragon Age: Origins News and Announcements forum and check them out for yourself. If I had to guess, I'd say they're going to try to have the new patch out at the same time of the release of the new Leliana DLC, but we'll see.

Here's a copy and paste about the newest patch from Victor Watcher:
Hello again all,
It's time for more notes on items fixed in the upcoming patch for Dragon Age: Origins. This week, we have a few items related to gameplay and performance, as well as new Awakening fixes. As noted before, there were a number of crashes related to audio drivers and those have been resolved. In addition to that fix, memory leaks that were harming performance and causing crashes (as listed below) have been resolved. In addition to performance improvements, we also have a couple of items fixed in Awakening, which were not working properly.
• Switching between Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Awakening were resetting options to default settings.
• Multiple transitions in and out of Fade areas were multiplying the number of visual effects running, slowing down gameplay.
• Resolved a number of memory leaks that were causing crashes and increases load times.
• (Awakening only) Players may now receive notes of appreciation from former love interests.
Previously reported:
• Instant +100 approval bugs for Awakening companions have been resolved.
• Anders, Sigrun and Velanna's personal quests will properly activate.
• Fixed an issue that would prevent an imported character from detecting traps.
• Red script will no longer appear in the place of tattoos.
• Power of Blood talent will be usable in Awakening.
• Game saves on Xbox 360 were being corrupted if you sold too many items to the same merchant. Saves will no longer be corrupted if you do this.
• Daggers will now properly assign the dexterity-based damage bonus
• Updated audio drivers to fix a number of audio related crashes.
Keep watching for additional details. At this time, we do not have a release date for the patch. Once that is set, we will update you on that.

I hope this is a clean sweep of the game. I'm really tired of all the issues. The only thing I hate, though is the fact that they only put out patches after DLC releases. Its like they want us to buy the DLC so bad or something...
