Borderlands was pretty good for about an hour. Then...

Still, it looks like something I might pick up someday (someday being once it hits the bargain bin.) It looks like it's probably the kind of shooter I prefer. I generally don't care for most shooters, and I absolutely hate ones that rely on darkness and things jumping out at you for "difficulty". This reminds me more of something along the lines of a Serious Sam type of thing (though I haven't played it, and I only played a demo of Serious Sam.)
Anyway, sorry to hear about the RROD. Yet more proof that consoles are evil.

What is this RROD? I know what it means, but what the hell is it and why haven't they fixed it?flem1 wrote...
I wonder how many people's Xboxes will RROD during their Dragon Age playthroughs. And how many complaint threads there will be.
If this shiz happens to me after waiting so long to play DA:O I think I might pop.

RROD = Red Ring of Death. It's nothing similar to the Blue Screen of Death, as when Red Ring of Death appears(three red lights on your Xbox), it means that the Xbox has overheated and the internal compnents are burnt, permanetly damaged to an unusable state. Microsoft does offer free repair/replacement, but of course that would be inconvienient nonetheless.
While the Xbox players burn their hardwares with DAO, I will be powering it through on PC.

Blue Screen of Death are usually caused by bad drivers for hardwares. It can also be caused by overheating or memory/power supply damage, although much less likely comparing to the previously mentioned cause. In most cases, a restart, or a driver reinstallation/update are all that's required to fix/prevent a BSoD.Kilsot wrote...
A BSoD usually means that part of your computer is broken or overheated. Well at least the ones I have gotten. (Playing with a PSU that survived a lightning strike is a BAD idea >.> )
PCs are much tougher than those puny boxes.

I fear I am going to go broke in the next few months with all of the excellent releases, unfortunately. BioShock 2, Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed 2, and a few others will bankrupt my account and my time. I still also need to catch up on a few other games I have purchased but barely played, such as Risen.
By the way, does anyone else agree that 2010 is looking to be the year of sequels with few original IPs? I cannot think of too many high-profile releases that do not have a 2, 3, 4, or, in the case of Final Fantasy, a XIII, tacked on the end of their names.

'09 looks to be finishing in strong fashion, though - Borderlands definitely caught my eye. I'll be interested to hear what people here think (including OP) when/if they get a chance to play.

To me it looks very much like Fallout 3. Is there an actual difference?
Everything?
The games are about as similar as an orange and an apple. Fallout 3 is an RPG with FPS combat, while Borderlands is an FPS with some RPG elements, but it is definitely not an RPG.
Fallout 3 is a single-player game with a focus on an involved, branching plot, whereas Borderlands is designed for cooperative play and has almost no plot focus (from what I have read).
Borderlands is more comparable to Diablo as they both share a similar design philosophy, except one has point and click combat while the other has FPS combat.

Yes, Borderlands was really good. If you don't like FPS's because they all seem the same and offer no depth then give it a try. It reminds me of Bioshock to a degree. It gives you just enough RPG element to keep your interest.

Of course he was able to keep playing on the 360. I lent him my backup system. LOL. I had so many RROD's that I ended up getting another and letting my wife use my old one once it was fixed. She rarely played it, usually Lego "insert which version here".
Oh and Boarderlands is on my XMAS wish list.

That said, I bought my 360 on launch day and it still runs fine. I think the biggest problem with the Xbox errors is simply poor care. Treat it like a computer, clean it frequently, keep it ventilated, and youll never have a problem.
Also, Borderlands is pretty good. I recommend it for Co-op play, but if youre a solo player wait til it hits the bargain bins.
