So I didn't drink the stuff in the jug when I first found it in the Warden's Keep- wanting to have a look around first... I left to carry on some other stuff, assuming that I would be able to come back. Avernus said he would "carry on his research and let me know if he found anything" so it seemed pretty obvious that I would be coming back... or so I thought

I now find I can't get back into the keep and so can't access these talents...

I can't begin to tell you how frustrating this is.

Is there a console command or something to unlock them?

I think the developers seriously need to fix this! I'm 23 hours into the game and until now I've been loving it... but this is so annoying it's actually putting me off playing. I've looked everywhere on all kinds of forums and all I see now is people saying that if you miss it you miss it...

Somebody! Please!?

Let me answer your question with a question... Why did you not drink it the first time? Were you worried it would hurt? You could have saved, drank it, then decided on the result... Sorry for being unsympathetic but it's pretty obvious that if something is interactive in this game, you generally want to interact with it. Tough noogies.

Sounds like the keep becomes permanently locked after you leave... so you need to restore from an old save, or skip it this time through. Try it in another play through of the game. Though.. maybe the mod community or Bioware will 'unlock the door'.. eventually. Sucks for sure.

Well I did of course pop a quick save and try it out- you'll notice I have the achievement...I guess it seemed a bit dark side for the way I've been playing the character so I thought I'd look around. (the irony is not lost given your initiation as a grey warden) I decided not to take it there and then purely because from the dialogue about "continuing research" there would be an alternative later... but I certainly had no way of knowing there was no coming back...

I see absolutely no reason why I can't re-enter the keep: It's MY keep! It should at least be made clear that you will not be able to re-enter the castle before you leave... same for the sub-quests about uncovering family history...

I've been off and finished the redcliffe/sacred ashes quest line since then and only now when I come back to see how Avernus' research is coming do I find this out... that save is long gone... do I really want to start from scratch...? do I really want to play through the next 100+ hours without all the talents I could have accessed. No on both counts...

Honestly, the fact you can't enter the keep again just seems like a bizzare choice on a whole number of levels...

What was the point in all that "the keep is yours now warden" stuff?

So to answer your question- the game sets out to be about making "moral" choices... I assumed there was an alternative! Drink this and get the content you payed to unlock or don't drink it and don't get anything... not a great choice, and not one that was made clear...

Perhaps Duncan's ghost should be inserted into the keep so he can threaten to stick you if you don't drink it... he seemed to like making people drink stuff!

It was pretty lame that they just took an influential character(duncan), and then tossed him away 3 hours into the game. I was kinda hoping that duncan really wasn't dead and that he turned into the archdemon or something and thus were going to come to this realization closer to the end, but it never came. I mean, they could have even made it so that duncan was the prisoner warden at the end and it would have made my day. I didn't know who he was, and I felt no attachment when he bit the dust other than "Damn, now I am going to have to sacrifice me or someone else now"

This is the reason you make multiple saves when ever you play an RPG as complex as this one is, that way you can just go back to before you left that area, drink the potion, and then you will be good to go. What I did was I left it alone until I found out you got extra abilities if you drank it. Then I went back to my save "drink the jug" drank it and carried on from that point.

Forgetting the saving argument for a second, I'm surprised the rest of the game didn't make you aware of the fact, that when you're given a choice like that the choice you make is generally permanent.

I grant that I should have really thought to keep a save...

But that doesn't change the fact that there's a whole load of stuff about "continuing research" if there was at least some indication that this was a one time chance then I could have understood... I was left with the distinct impression that you would be able to return to this...

Not being able to re-enter the keep seems to fly in the face of all the dialogue about this being your keep... come back they said... we'll fix it up...

They should have said "we're gonna lock this nutcase in the castle and make a campsite outside"

Seriously they should rename the DLC from warden's keep to "Two guys with tents" :P

oh well... not the end of the world I guess

My thought process was "This was created by a mage who summoned demons, experimented with blood magic on human subjects, and tore a hole in the Veil. Do I really want to drink this?" Needless to say I smashed the vial. Perhaps next playthrough I won'.

There is only 2 talents per job. The other 2 empty spaces are just empty spaces.

Personally the Mage one is the best I think.

I'm playing a mage. I like the 2 new talents. I'm curious..what are the talents for the rogue and warrior?

Rogue was

"Dark Path" : increased stealth speed and extra chance to avoid attacks

and

"Tainted Blade" : extra damage from coating your blades with your tainted blood at the cost of health per hit

As much as I was annoyed with how this DLC was done, the vial is one of the better issues brought up in the DLC. You know the vial was made with evil but then again so was your joining ritual. Its a good choice and I like that you don't get rewarded for not taking it. That is what makes the decision harder. Do I sacrifice my characters morals to satisfy my need to power game? I love that this isnt a clear cut case of get a good reward or an evil reward decide! Sometimes its best for a game not to reward one side in a quest.

I left Avernus alive hoping he would unlock the 2 other blank spaces at a later point maybe some new DLC will. Probably should have just killed him though.

That's right becuase being Good is often about sacrafice. It's not about getting some other form of compensation instead. Otherwise it would he really easy to be good.

A prime example of this is with the Anvil of the Void. I only played through as the "good" side and destroyed it. But there was the question of do you destroy it to ensure no more souls are trapped inside golems. Or do you do allow Braka to have it in which case she promises you an army of Golems to use agians the dark spawn. Since I didn't side with here I don't know if at the end of the game you would of had golems in your army. But it is implied so it is a tough choice because it's "Golem Army" or NOTHING (except your Morals). :)

When I went through, I initially took the potion but didn't check the talents screen to see some had been added, I decided that my character wouldn't have took it, so reloaded to a save I made just before taking the potion. With regard the keep being shut, the funny thing is that my game bugged a tiny bit after I had helped Avernus, as I was able to get the standard dialogue you get from Levi straight after whilst we were still stood in the keep although the merchant vendor wouldn't load up. I figured due to some of the things he said in other parts of his conversation dialogue that I needed to exit the keep completely ie go to the world map and come back. Sure enough I came back and Levi was now outside as normal.

Considering that he mentions how they made some changes, I imagine that there might be room for more DLC regarding the keep to come. The simple solution will be that when you re-enter the keep after you've completed the quest it will be more 'homely' and less doom and gloomy as it is when walking through it initially. I imagine the reason can't go into the keep is because they haven't done the 'renovated' version of it. ;)

Or like the decision to help the nutcases in Haven with Andraste's 'rebirth,' hoping to gain more allies against the Darkspawn. Only to find out that they can't WAIT for the Darkspawn to overrun Ferelden and wipe the Imperium's taint clean.
I do keep two save game files, but in Dragon Age, I have found that I want to stick to my choices, and not re-load if I don;t like a result. The finality of my decisions (like the Ashes decision, which I thoroughly regret) lends a certain gravity to the story for me.
Note: I did drink the concoction in Warden's Keep though. I couldn't resist. :P It is a decision I neither a happy about, nor do I regret it.
