Its been a while since I've played Awakening, but I just seem to recall that almost any dialogue choice I'd try with Oghren often gave me a disapproval. There was no pleasing the guy. And even when trying the joking responses, I don't know how serious you can take a guy when he's a walking brewery that only talks about fart jokes and sexxing up any female party member.  Its not like the joking responses were grave insults to his manhood- hell, the guy practically blacks out at the end of every conversation and you're supposed to be taking him seriously?

Awakening Oghren conersations were mine fields.  I saved before every one of them.  Despite the glitch that set his Approval at zero, but nerfed his gifts as if it were 100, I still managed to get his approval up to 100 and complete his quest.  It took a lot of reloading and trying different conversation options.  I also gave him about 20 "generic" ifts I'd ttransfered over from Origins.

So I know what you mean.  It is a pain in the rear.

I too hated the bugs.  Awakening got 1 play through, then I shelved it, uninstalled everything, and reinstalled Origins with 1.02a patch.  Now that I strictly play Origins, I agree with some people's sentiment that the series would have been better without an expansion.  Just DAO, then DA2 to complete the story of Morrigan, Flemeth, and the God Child.  Maybe a wrap up on whatever romance the player chose . . . but I could take it or leave it.

I've come to appreciate all of the characters. No matter who.
All of them have their flaws and can be annoying but this adds to the roleplaying value. I don't need them to lick my boots.

I'd be stupid to restrict myself by replaying the same character all the time.

I don't hate any of the companions, it actually takes quite a lot for me to actively dislike a joinable NPC. But as a couple of least favorites I could mention Sten and Morrigan.

With Sten I managed to lose approval every time he opened his mouth so eventually I just gave him a DLC gift that nets you +50 approval just so I could get his personal quest. I was particularly annoyed at his talk how women cannot be fighters because they aren't meant for it and that everyone should be content with their lot in life, no matter how crappy apparently. And god forbid you disagree or try to persuade him otherwise, you instantly lose approval. And when after completing some major quest (mage tower I think) I return to the camp, he comes up and says he's unimpressed with my PC's leadership abilities. Huh?? That was just out of the blue. And apparently he thinks he'd be loads better at that. Erm, sure Sten, whatever floats your boat.

Morrigan has funny banter with everyone else and that's about the only thing I like about her, Her personality doesn't do much for me, too cold. Not to mention if you take her along she'll disapprove of every single charitable act you choose to make. I never took her along after I got other companions, partly because she's a mage and one mage which is me is more than sufficient for the party.

Dog is, well, dog. I don't really count it.

Wynne.... Ms. I have only had one regret in my entire life. Also her telling me how to be a Grey Warden when she knows nothing of what it is truly to be one and why it is such a sacrifice. Then the love is irresponsible thing shut the hell up.

Okay, there's no way Alistair didn't get a funeral. They just showed the post-coronation on-screen instead and yes people did seem to forget him awfully quickly so maybe not as many people came or Anora didn't preside over it all teary-eyed (especially if she's only on the throne by default since he die d) but we can assume that since we had the body and were no longer fugitives we had time to make sure he had a funeral.

Given the way Anora treats Alistair while he is alive, I don't think she gave him a funeral. She wants Ferelden to forget he ever existed. I understood why Anora wouldn't care; it was his so called friends and companions who didn't seem to care.

So maybe Anora didn't if she really wants the negative PR (which I don't believe she's stupid enough to do) but that doesn't mean that he never got a funeral at all. If nothing else, the Chantry would give him one. Important people just don't go around not having funerals because no one cares about/liked them. Do you think Howe's body or Loghain's was just thrown into a ditch somewhere? It may not have been an epic state occasion like the PC got but having a funeral is hardly some rare luxury.

What I am protesting is that in the game....Alistair's funeral was never mentioned, never covered.  I realize that we, as the PC are the "hero" and the ending is supposed to be about us....but hey, Alistair (in my playthroughs) was either my best buddy-brother in arms who US'd for his country OR he was the man I loved most in the entire world.  And it's like he drops off the planet.

Sure--he probably got a funeral, but given the fact that it is not mentioned at all, (at least by the writers) it must have been a pretty "private" funeral.   And, I honestly do not believe that Anora would have been the one to give him one.  She would have done what we saw -- played up the PC's role in the victory and ignored Alistair completely.  Anora did that a couple of times during the game, past behavior is a good predictor of future behavior.

The first time I had him die, I was hurt that he didn't even get a darned honorable mention......not by anyone.  It hurt my feelings as his closest friend/lover, just as it would have hurt someone in real life who loses someone they care about and no one else seems to give a rat's patootey. I thought it was poor writing.

What does Anora stand to gain by minimalizing Alistair once he's dead? A dead hero is no threat to her, aftetr all. Yes, she does more for Loghain but he's her father and the people already knew him. If Anora is smart and politically-savvy (which she is) then she'll ignore her own disdain and hold a grand funeral where she tries to make it seem like the last of the Theirin bloodline supported her rule. He either pledged fealty to her if she was the Queen and not him, agreed to marry her and thus also supported her ruling, or else he threw her in a tower/outright named her his heir which (since he easily could havek killed her and that had been what she was expecting) all point to at least tacit approval of her taking the throne in lieu of him. She may not like him but oh well. If he can strengthen her claim in death then she's not just going to completely ignore him because it's impractical. His funeral, while not shown, was probably before or after the coronation just like the PC's was. After all, there had to have been a coronation in a US ending but they just didn't show it to us.

My only point is that, as a player of the game, I was disappointed that the true hero of Ferelden (in the Alistair US scenario) didn't even get a word or two...I was expecting to hear something about Alistair's sacrifice and ......NOTHING.....sorry, but I wanted some kind words for the guy who actually plunged the sword into the AD. I missed not having some sort of dialogue closure with regard to losing Alistair!  Maybe it didn't bother anyone else but it bothered me.

And frankly I disagree about Anora.  Her contempt for and disdain of Alistair were clear throughout this game.  Given that I killed her father, I cannot see her giving Alistair any sort of recognition...nothing that would take away from Daddy.  She would say nothing and do nothing and hope that Alistair faded away into nothing....and by golly it worked. No one mentions him at the party.

So do you actually believe that no one noticed/cared he died or are you just upset that there isn't much acknowledgement in post-coronation?

Out of the party members? Leliana. From the Youtube vids and spoilers I saw before I got the game I thought I'd LOVE her. But the more I got to know her in game the more I felt like she is just an actress playing a grand role in a play in her mind. She just felt very incincere and emotionally detached to me... and yet she has the nerve to preach and play holier than though about things like religion. I tried to romance her but wanted to strangle her before we even got anywhere close to the tent. The fact that she lies to you so much, then CONSTANTLY claims to be remorseful and repentant of her wicked past, but then shows no emotions when speeking of killing people... ugh. Can you say "Sociopath"?

In Zev's defense, he's intentionally playing up a cheesy persona at first, as a defence mechanism. Once you get to know him you start to see he's really a person who's afraid to deal with his fealings and almost seems to think he's undeserving of the hope you've given him. A lot of the time he'll say one thing and his facial expression and voice will reveal deaper meaning and his true fealings that text in the toolkit can't capture.

As far as his fighting abilities, if you use him right, he's actually pretty powerfull. All the characters should be useful if you level them and program them right. I always had more luck with Zev than Lel, personally. But I think diferent people just start out with different strategic tendancies.

Also, the more I play, the more Al is grating on my nerves. I'm trying to romance him and it's not helping my opinion of him one bit. :-/ I hope it gets better. I need to harden him.

I like all of my companions. But the one who is least liked has to be Wynne. Even though I tend to take her out if I don't player a healer mage. She's too preachy and holier than thou. No matter how I'm rping, my PCs always feel like a kid when being lectured by her.

AUGH! Yes Velanna was a pathetic annoying and useless charachter I am so glad she is gone in my few playthroughs. "SHEMS ARE BAD" "CANT TELL BETWEEN DARKSAPWN AND HUMANS" "NOBODY UNDERSTANDS HOW AWSOME I AM!"

Anders was 1000 times better than her period.

I totally agree with what you are saying. Wynne "dead heroes" remark made me dislike her even more. It bothered me so much that I loaded a savegame and redid the US on my own PC. I never let Alistair do it anymore BECAUSE nobody seems to care after. I hate that Posted Image.

Upset that there isn't much acknowledgement p-c!  It left a big hole for me.

If you're including Awakening characters I too would have to go with Valenna. Wow that elf is annoying. Then maybe Wynne. It's strange some of my earlier characters really liked her, but my last 2 wished she would keep her lousy advice to herself.

Wynne. Dear God Wynne, all of my hate.

I don't know why, just something about her.

I think it's the fact that her dialogue has less variation than some of the others and that as you have more and more playthroughs you really don't need to hear her lecturing you about responsibility as much as you've heard it all before and either really get it by now or won't ever get it.

Oghren was my least favorite from Origins. Velanna bumped him to second least in Awakenings though. I know there are people in life with chips on their shoulders the size of Mt. Everest, but it doesn't make them fun to be around. I just wanted to say to her "look, I'm sorry your life has sucked, but it wasn't my fault so give me a break!"

I didn't hate Velanna mostly because I didn't take her with me a lot- Anders is more useful IMO- but she does rather scream Dalish stereotype.

I can't stand Oghren. He is shallow, rude, and I just hate him. Still wouldn't kill him if given the chance. Wynne gets annoying sometimes, same for chantry-loving Leliana. However, the character I hate the most, totally despise, is Isolde.

Whooo izzzz disss wuuman teeegannn??? OMFG I hate that damn weakling orlesian hag of a harpy. Not only for the way she treated Alistair but for her whininess on the whole Connor situation. Her voice grates on my nerves the most and I just want to skewer her. Morrigan and I plan to stuff a dirty sock in her mouth, ducktape it and shove her off the cliff in a wooden crate.  Someone please create a mod for that or to slap her mouth shut. Although I did enjoy making her sacrifice herself with Jowan's blood magic. Posted Image Silence is golden, ducktape is silver. Hag!!!!!!!!
