I think Bethesda is a very strong company at the moment. They are throwing out games that are well received daily. I just wish that they hired a better writing team. Oblivion was fantastic, but the storyline was just horrendous. The only part that had a pretty okay storyline was the Dark Brotherhood quests, and even then they could've done so much better. I also hope that Obsidian starts making some better games. They have some of the best people from Troika/Black Isle, but they make such sorry games...
I agree, the storyline of Oblivion was just so-so, especially compared to Bioware games. The Dark Brotherhood was by far the coolest faction in the game, with the mages guild being a close second (once you actually GET into the guild that is, not just running about doing favors for the idiots running the local mages guild charters.)
But story wasn't an issue, Oblivion was open enough so that you could completely ignore the story(s) and forge ahead stealing everything that wasn't nailed down, raiding dungeons, and pissing off the guards,(YOU SHOULD HAVE PAID THE FINE YARG!!!)
The magic system, while a bit underpowered, was one of the most intuitive and customizable I've seen, especially combined with the enchantment system.
