How do you go about obtaining it?  I just played through the entire game with her approval at max, and didn't get the option to sleep with her and I think this is the reason why.  Or am I missing something else?  My main character was female if that makes a difference or not.

Yeah, you need to work a bit harder to get Leliana as a girl. As a guy, you can get her quest as soon as you leave Lothering as long as you give her gifts to boost her approval rating and talk to her. Hell, you can get morrigan in bed the same way as soon as you leave Lothering.

Oh, you do need to go to your party camp again after your first visit to the party camp when leaving Lothering the first time. If your approval is high enough than she will tell you the truth about her past. Afterwards you will get a random encounter with mercenaries. After beat them Leliana will give her quest. Rather fun.

Do you remember what conversation tree option that is? Is it a one time thing? I was pretty sure that I picked everything.

The problem is that you played the entire game with her approval at max. This isn't possible without cheating, and doing so breaks the conversation chain.

If you want her personal quest, you have to get her approval somewhere around 50-70 and have a bunch of talks with her. Eventually when you come back to camp, she'll initiate a conversation with you about her past. You can then ask about her backstory and learn about a friend that betrayed her. After this, walk around the map until you get the appropriate random encounter that starts the quest.

Ok thanks, I think I missed a conversation point and like you said I rose her approval too fast without talking to her.

Curse you addictive gameplay and trying to fit it on to youtube as fast as possible!

So my fault was, to give her too much presents, thus boosting her approval too fast, right?

It's at 100 since ages and my current party is ~level 18, doing Orzamar stuff.

Although she is at 100, the relation to her stagnates.

I know from another game, that there is the question about "bards are spies", but in my current game this question never came up.

BTW, I have her in my active team in 90% of all activities.

Right. Male or female player character, if you give her gifts instead of talking to her, you will block her personal quest from starting, which will prevent you progressing her romance to the next level.

Damn. I have no conversation options other than telling her she is the best what could happen to me and ask her to tell me stories.

So, what could I do to "bring her down" to 50 or 60%?

It's not possible for me to play "evil", so the only way I can imagine is, to flirt with Alistair (my main is female). But I guess, this would not only bring her down, but destroy all future hopes, right?

Heh. Morrigan was in the sack BEFORE getting to Lothering. (You can go straight to camp after leaving Flemeth's.)
