1st play through I charmed Kyle out, this one I used intimidate, got a +9 renegrade, but I did let him talk to his cult. I am pretty sure that if I insisted on immediate surrender it would have started a fight.
There's a lot of biotics there, over a dozen at least.
So how tough would the fight be, and do I get more than 9 renegrade points if I kill everyone??!?!

As far as I know you get less renegade points if you're forced to kill them. Not sure how many you get if you force it after you've intimidated or charmed him and then insist him coming right away, but if you just outright get him killed you get 2 renegade points iirc.
As for how hard the fight is. I didn't find it hard to fight them since they are scattered all over the place and you can kill most of them 1 or 2 at the time. I usually go there pretty early in the game so not sure how hard it would be if you go there later and they know more biotic stuff.

well if I'm not going to get more Renegade points, I don't think I'll bother. getting enough renegade points seems to be a problem: some dialogs the renegade response looks like it will kill the mission

It is a tough fight but it is no more difficult than storming the freighter where Burns is being held hostage or fighting the Biotic terrorists in the 75% Paragon mission..
If you use the same pulling tactics and fight small groups at a time, then you'll win. Take Tali and Garrus along because by that time, you should have leveled both of them to the point where either one of them (or both) should have Damping by then.
I personally just use the dialogue options. More Paragon / Renegade points and the opportunity to get your hands on all of the weapons and items from the containers.
